I wonder if the series including seasons 1 and 2 had any connection to Aku from Samurai Jack, because of the Tartakovsky multiverse or Tartakovsky-verse. We got the Black Goo from the Ape-Men, the Witches, the King from Season 2, I don't know if they all connected to Aku. Maybe because of Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time.
I really sympathized with all the characters over the mammoth tusk. My family has hunted whitetail deer for generations, and I've taught my own son as well. Out of respect for the animal, we always say a prayer over it and harvest it. We use EVERY part of it, even the bones (which go to our English mastiff that loves them. The insides that we don't use are food for other scavengers on our property. We also only hunt the older ones, and even then only what we use to feed our family for a season. All animals have some sense of familial bond, and it is VERY important to us that we do exactly what spear did; show respect, and waste nothing. I got a little emotional when he gave the tusk back! Great show and great review @Alteori 😊
Thanks Nathan! And thanks for sharing that lovely story of your family. My partner and I will be moving soon until about 20 acres of land. I would love to occasionally hunt my own food. I love animals so much but one thing I do agree with vegans on is that, If I'm going to eat meat I have to at least be willing to get my own food. I imagine one deer carcass can last for many months If we split it between us and the dogs. I am completely at a loss though as to hunting deer. However, they're going to be a lot of hunters in the area and I'm hoping to learn a little something from the older people. My ancestors were farmers and they raised and killed their own food. I would like to do that at least when it comes to raising certain vegetables and fruit and hunting my own meat on occasion. We're basically going to be in the middle of the forest and I imagine it much easier to hunt on your own property. The episode made me really respect Spear recognizing how the mammoths were feeling. @@nathanrood865 I agree. I have a question pertaining to hunting deer. When you fell a deer, and the others are spooked, does the rest of the herd stay away from that area?
It kinda reminds me of that hunting scene from Mowgli: legend of the Jungle or that article I read about how an Inuit tribe prays to a dead seal so it can pass onto another life. No offense, but although I agree with you, imagine being killed and your killer is the last thing you’ll ever see before you die.

That old dying mammoth was most likely female, probably a mother or aunt to the matriarch. Modern elephants are like this. Males are solitary and females live in groups and help raise the babies. An old one is crucial for remembering paths to food sources. "An Elephant Never Forgets" is probably one of the most accurate sayings ever created, as their memory capacity is the same as ours. Mourning their dead is accurate too! Also, I theorize the black goo in Rage of the Ape Men is Chemical X from the Powerpuff Girls, Genndy did work on that show and I keep seeing Mojo Jojo everywhere.
Remember watching this the first time through, was a good refresher, Genndy always does so much with so little in his shows, just ambient sounds and a few motions can convey alot. I do wonder if they will ever touch on where the black water and zombie virus come from or if the water that dino puked in will have long lasting effects.
Looking forward for it to come back! 🙂 'Primal' is easily one of my all-time shows. Like any other show or movie, 'Primal' is not a fairytale where characters have a happy ending. And I truly appreciate that.
The zombie dinosaur was the scariest and creepiest thing I have ever watched, I seriously got super scared when it woke up, I was so happy it died at the end.
Thanks for the Recap Alteori, been a LONG TIME since season 1. Can't wait for season 2, Genndy Tartakovsky really is a animation legend, having done both Samurai Jack (classic Cartoon) and now PRIMAL.
2:57 this scene was very symbolic to me. The stalagmites below show what will happen to them if they screw up their relationship and turn on each other. The snakes body is like a rope. Because of how heavy she is, fang ends up making it impossible for spear to hold them together. It explains their current dynamic because fang is a clumsy, loud apex predator and because she wasn’t bending her habits to help spear, the sleep deprivation, annoyance and hunger finally gets to spear and they fight each other. If the snakes didn’t interrupt them, they could’ve killed each other. Basically, in friendships it can’t be all one person doing the effort to make their time together enjoyable.
This is a great vid, my personal favourite episode was definitely scent of prey, a simple idea that never felt so huge in stakes and emotion, just a beautiful episode
Something I want to point out in cold death is that at the end that grave yard of mammoths is bigger than the group of living mammoth Symbolizing that extinction of the species
@@raptorjesus5870 nah you’d be surprised how fast dollar store humans brought mammoth numbers down. Some survived up until Egyptian times but they were theorized to not be true mammoths kinda like how fang is more of a sub species of human.

Honor loyalty and all that is lost in modern shows, i mean just look at rick and morty. They sure baited us that rick had some dignity in him when he turned himself in but nope, hes just a crazy dude it seemed.

This animated series is just what I've been waiting for. I grew up watching dinosaur movies and reading comics such as "Turok: Son of Stone," and "Star-Spangled War Stories" (military vs. dinosaurs). Thanks, Alteori.
The biggest reason why I love this show is how they show emotion and intelligence in the animals. They easily show complex emotions in these creatures and see them have a level of intelligence we wouldn't expect, but they are never personified (i.e speaking English or wearing clothes, except for a few humanoid outsiders). It's such a mature but captivating way of telling how an animal is feeling with zero duologue, and showing this different but familiar world
Don't know why I slept on this show for so long considering I love Samurai Jack & the 2003 Clone Wars Volumes. Appreciate the recap because it got me to finally go through it, hell of a ride. Primal is proof that, despite this being an adult swim show, you don't need a wide range of characters, or complex dialogue, or hell, even funny parts. Although most shows nowadays are afraid of being """""ViOLeNt,""""" Primal didn't screw around, and made this show as dark and gritty as you can get (for the stone age at least), which is what makes it fantastic. And I KNOW that this joke has been done to death to the point where it isn't funny anymore, but, episode 5 was the manifestation of "When the DOOM music kicks in." I know it's an incredibly dull joke at this point, but it's kinda hard to watch this without thinking that at least once. Point that I'm trying to make is, Primal fucking slaps.

Awesome recap Alteori! Looking forward to your reviews of Season 2.
I find your content interesting since you present yourself with a very cute voice and avatar, yet your cover violent, grotesque, horrible events and don't shy away from stronger language. Good stuff. I'll check out your other videos.
This is my favorite show.
