Well, Tom, Boomer here! And this was on a 12" 78RPM record that my Grandma had (other side was Neapolitan Love Song - Herbert), and she toward the very end wanted to make sure that I protected and kept it safe. It still is. ;) And I can't get enough of these three songs by Richard Crooks: If I Could Tell you In My Garden Neapolitan Love Song (T'Amo) Not to mention the others that Crooks also sang (I got them, too!)
I own a 45 reissue of this record by Richard Crooks. We just don't have music like this anymore. It is a pity that Crooks records are out of favor now with the masses.
I scarcely remember a time when I didn't love this. It can still bring tears to my eyes, even as it did when I was a small child. As a "boomer" born shortly after World War II, I listened to "The Voice of Firestone" on the radio before TV was widely available, then I was delighted when my grandparents got a state-of-the-art Bendix TV (B/W, of course), and I could watch as well as listen. During the summers, I was allowed to stay up late in order to hear both the opening and the closing songs.
Early childhood memories are the sweetest. Our family would huddle around the radio when Richard Crooks sang this theme song to open the long-treasured Firestone program.
People today don’t realize that Firestone and other responsible corporations used to sponsor high culture to reach out to all the public. That is all gone now. Spiritual and cultural collapse of the West. Let us pray 🙏 that a miracle will occur and beauty can be returned to our larger society!
As a very young child during the WWII years, I really do remember sitting by the radio on Sunday evenings listening to the Voice of Firestone. Each program was opened with the guest singing Mrs. Firestone's composition, "If I could Tell You." Thomas L. Thomas, Lily Pons, Robert Merrill, Rise Stevens and Richard Crooks were frequent guest artists. I'm glad that Tom Smith posted this full version of Mrs. Firestone's beautiful composition; I longed to hear it again.
I remember summers spent at our grandparents' in the late forties when Grandfather would tune in the big 1936 console Silvertone in the living room and turn out the lights for The Telephone Hour, The Firestone Hour, and The Railroad Hour. The only light would be from the big round gold dial. About five years ago I found the exact same model for sale in near pristine state, restored the electronics inside to factory, and just gave the exterior a refresh. Alas, no Firestone Hour on the air, but I can broadcast U-Tube programs through it.
Magnificent. I, too, am a babyboomer and listened to the Firestone Hour with this beautiful piece introducing the hour. In 1961, as a high-school student, I sang this piece in a state-wide competition (Indiana) and won a medal.

Sincere appreciation for sharing this beautifully interpreted rendition of the Voice of Firestone theme by its host of many years, Richard Crooks. Sentiment deserves a place in our experience. William Fisher
My parents always listened to the Firestone Hour and I loved this song but when I looked for it, I only found a 45 sec clip. I am so glad to find the whole song and hear the rest of the words. Thanks, this is wonderful, I had only heard it by a woman.
Man, does this bring back memories. My dad used to watch The Voice of Firestone religiously. It was about the only TV he ever watched and when he did, you had to be very quiet.
I miss this program and I remember this theme song. I was surprised that Mrs. Firestone had a hand in this song. I also like The Bell Telephone Hour with Thine Is My Heart Alone (Lehar's Land of Smiles). I was 10 years old in 1942 and lived in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I also well up with years when hear Richard Crooks sings this absolutely beautiful song of love.
My Dad used to sing this and many others very well, he did concerts and appearances, nothing big,
But he was doing what he loved.
a charming recording than by crooks, one of the BEST of the first half of the 20th century!

One of Richard Crooks finest offerings from this later period of his career!

@@reecenewton3097 You can find a lot of old radio shows on RUclips that you could play through your radio.

Such a wondrous song!
I simply can't get enough of this Richard Crooks' performance. Brings back fond memories and a few tears, too.
What a voice, his cadence is just perfect.
Wow, only wish I knew this singing long ago! His voice is bright and open, sing each word so clearly, the whole navigation is masterful. Bravo!
thank you so much for enriching my life, I will keep this in my library and get some cds, beautiful gem posting.
This is beautiful. Like to see it back now. Instead of the crap we hear now.

Why cannot songs this beautiful be written by today's composers?
Because there’s not the audience for it.
People used to value class and intelligence. Today all they value is money, sex and violence.
My parents always listened to the Firestone Hour and I loved this song but when I looked for it, I only found a 45 sec clip. I am so glad to find the whole song and hear the rest of the words. Thanks, this is wonderful, I had only heard it by a woman.

What an absolutely precious song performed by one of the greatest tenors of all times.
Thank you, Richard. Those were the days! Your voice, this song - they soothe my soul. Aaah.
Of all the songs of Richard Crooks this is closest to my heart
so beautiful lovely sid
Yes, Richard Crooks "owns" THIS song. He transports me back to the peace and innocence of childhood, when all seemed well.
Mind also. Love the lyrics also. It is hard sometimes to tell your loved one If I could tell you.
Richard Crooks was not only an exemplary Tenor, he was also
a Fighter Pilot

Bravoo. Amazing performance 👏
Die Sendung "The Firestone Hour" war wunderschön. Durch die 40er Jahre hindurch war ich ein immer treuer und aufmerksamer Zuhörer. DANN KOMMT ELVIS!
I thought everyone nhad forgotten Ida Firestone. There is certainly a place for sntimental composers like her and Ivor Novello
Thanks for this great posting
listened to this again and wow.
Yes, the song written by the lady Mrs. Idabelle Firestone sung so well by American Lyric tenor Crooks .---RIP.
Crooks was a frequent guest on the Voice of Firestone program but he was not the host.
Heart warming!

She was Idabelle Smith before marriage.
I'm quite sure Alan Jay Lerner was involved in the creation of this song.
Lerner was a dork
This was Idabelle ‘s gift no one else
