We have lived with hazard levels of smoke out West over this past few years - ash on vehicles daily, down air, etc. We’re all still around. Just don’t go jogging and don’t let kids run around outside (no one needs to be breathing deeply). Put filters in AC units if using them, close windows, and wait it out.

When I was 18 (in 1968) I got a summer job with USFS cleaning debris from the forest. We made large piles of flammable material (twigs, branches) to be burned in the winter when fire hazard is low. It reduced wildfires during the summer, cost to do this was minimal--its just good forest management. This practice was stopped years ago for unknown reasons, but wildfires are more common since then.
All the fires were started at the same time they don't tell you that tho

Here's a tip to help deal with smoky air in your home--get a box fan (20x20) add a furnace filter the same size, fasten it with packing tape. The smoke will be reduced in your house after it runs awhile--even the smoke odor will go away. It will help you thru the crisis.

Here in the Poconos, Pa they sent me home from work (work outside) because the smoke is so bad. These wildfires are getting out of hand. The climate is getting so weird.

Having lived in both NYC and California, the air quality is beyond terrible in both. In New York city, if your eye(s) start to water, for no apparent reason, don't rub them;you will get scratched corneas from the small particulates in the air. In California, where visibility is compromised and it isn't even wildfire season yet, you know its bad.Some who suffer from respiratory problems are encouraged to stay indoors. Some junker cars, still being driven, would not pass smog inspection, if you paid off the inspector !! Writing a citation for it is now listed as " a low priority ".
Where I live they want us to call in to report card that "smoke"... I report every car with a Bernie or Biden sticker on it.

I was 6 blocks away on 911. I walked to the Brooklyn through the smoke of the second towers fall. This smells more like a camp fire, at least in Jersey. Then again, Jersey camp fires often times consist of painted, stained, and pressure treated wood so I could be mistaken, 😂

Canada's smoke is only a small part of the issue. The reason it's dangerous is the additional fumes new Yorkers add to that smoke that is now stuck close to the ground. Look at your industrial districts and such

Honestly...I've been thinking abouot putting one on. The smoke is literally stinging my eyes today. Visibility sucks and you cam SMELL the fire....I'm at the very least 500 miles away from the fire.

It has been better from the rain weve been getting, though. The thing is that everyine usually gets tree and grass allergies in may- august, so it always seems bad this time of year. But the rain actually has made my allergies better.

Lightning strikes have existed longer than humans have.
Forest fires are a natural phenomenon when dead wood isn’t managed properly. At one time forestry officials and workers were responsible for clearing out certain stretches of forest. I believe the job was called “thinning”. Even in the small forest behind my house workers go through it and maintain it once in a while, I’ve noticed. A certain balance is maintained.
