Hell of a bit of kit... I am still getting to grips with my Miinilogue XD but enjoy a guided tour to the dark side of modular, always appreciate your take on gear. All best 🖖👍
I would pay for a Taiga patch course to help me get my head around this. I am very new to modular. Would love to be able to create some of the patches in your video I love that bass one
I was searching for a video of you using this, literally 2 days ago, thinking "I can't believe he's not looked at taiga yet" - I can't help but look at my neutron in my rack and feel like this is finally a worthy replacement
What oscilloscope or program are you using? Taiga next on my list. Just got an sv-1b as my first semi modular purchase. Love the vibe and unique engineering by Pittsburgh Modular
Arps and I have a love-hate-relationship. They inspire me, but they tend to do 1 or 2 notes I don't want to hear (too low for instance), but if I limit their triggerrange, they stop doing other notes that I want to hear. Another approach is to high- (or low)pass - but that sometimes messes with the sound too much. I ended up laying the midi down instead of using the arp more than once.. Anyways, I'm gonna enjoy the demos now - happy easter!
I hear ya. The repetitiveness of the same patterns gets me, I can easily slip into cheesy trance or 80's synth wave territory. I like to record the different patterns and stitch them together. I recently started experimenting with HY-Plugins 'Block Chainer', which breaks each pattern into groups, you can shift the pattern steps, change the number of steps, reverse the direction and keeps messing until something unique comes out the other end.
Hi! Thanks for the video! Missing ADSR (controlling attack and release values at least) patch points! It's not in a Buchla style... All that fun is even accesible in Volca Modular although it doesn't have all these cool features like other VCO shapes and it's not MIDIfied.
Damn you Starsky, this one was too modular of a semi modular for me, and the lack of patch memory means I can't see it having a place in my set up. So I could happily ignore. And then you went ahead and sent CC !!!. Checked the manual and the whole front panels is fully receives CC. So in theory, I can send a whole set of CC, and create a new patch that way (or at least do a lot of the groundwork). You've certainly piqued my interest now. Apart from the Edge. which only has a small number of controls to deal with, I had decided to stay away from modular. despite pining for variius complex oscillators. This could scratch that itch, but I hope it's not a gateway into a modular obsession. Maybe the Edge is and I've already fallen (which is due for delivery today).
pretty kool. i live 20 min east of pittsburgh. the problem i always have with these boxes is that i feel like i can do this and so much more with the sequential pro 3.
Just got hold of mine. The oscillators are all locked in the lfo range. If you add a tonne of cv I can get a c1 note at max. The envelopes are either off, or fully on. There’s about a 2 degree range on the release controls (zero = snappy, 2 degrees = fully gated). If a,d, or s are above zero, the envelopes never close. It clips horribly. The mixer can’t go above 30% without distorting horribly, the same goes for the vca. Not really sure why you’d want a preamp - it distorts badly enough before you even use it!!! Possibly my most disappointing synth purchase of all time sadly. :(
This synth has so many bad design decisions that it's crazy. From the rediculously bright LEDs, to the envelopes that have 270˚ of rotation but only about 1˚ of that is useful in most applications. I found the delay to be largely unusable, and all the time there was background clicking from _something_. The thing could never be silent between notes. All sorts of bleed problems. I accept that some of it may have been down to me not understanding how it works, but it shouldn't be that hard. Even an expert like Starsky Carr didn't understand the tuning of the oscillators, got it all wrong at about 12:30, assuming all oscillators had the same range as OSC 1 (they don't, in MIDI mode OSC2 has more range than OSC1, and OSC3 has more range still). It's confusing to the best of us! A few other dials have range settings that didn't make a lot of sense to me, e.g. FM I didn't keep mine. Having said that, Loopop in particular made it sound stunning. But no-one else seems to have gotten close to that, and I fell way short. So it's clearly not impossible, but it certainly seems hard.
You are right about the envelopes and the tuning. I have found the tuning to be much more tame in midi mode but nearly impossible to keep in tune using v/oct because the range is so big. I bought this because I was so impressed with the dynamics section on the west pest that I thought this would be able to get the same sounds, but with three oscillators. Unfortunately, the envelopes on the Tiaga are much more finicky. I’m probably going to keep it to play with a midi keyboard. But if I had to do it again, I would probably just get the East Beast and West Pest.
Seems like it has a sound of its own. Kind of lo-fi though(that some may like) , sounds a bit '"hollow" to me. Guess it would be good for anybody with a bunch of gear already who want something sounding really unique (which i guess is true for lots of modulars)?
@@TooSlowTube as much as anything else. I was only pointing out that you couldn’t have a 5 octave spread between the oscillators, but they’ve all got a massive range.
Nice one! Bonus-Kudos for the "Logans Run" snippets at the beginning 🙂
I haven't seen a synth this sweet and juicy in a long time. PTM really hit it out of the park with this one IMO.
Adding that chorusy delay in Jam 1 really pushed the tone into Boards of Canada territory. What a cool and flexible synth!

It's a awesome synthesizer. Especially combined with our synths such as moog Matriarch or behringer neutron

Great vid a few tricks i had missed for sure. The dynamics making more sense too. Thank you.
I like the fancy magic-mirror-esque encoder, Starsky. I put funky knobs on my synths too!

Great video.
I will be sure to put my 3 VCOs through the external INs on my Vermona PerFOURmer, to give me 3 more filters, envelopes and LFOs!

Faulty unit? Contacted PGH?
The VCF is a downer. It doesn't have to self oscillate but this filter has extremely low resonance.
ordering immediatelly!! bargain!
Beautiful outro at 27:42 😘
Yeah that upcoming Logan's Run remake.
HI, Mine arrived yesterday and its took some getting used to
Once you get it … you’ve got it. The oddest thing was having to increase the dyn CV input to hear anything!

2 octave range?? Is it a synth, or an electric penny whistle?
2 octaves between the oscillators. The range of the oscillators is at least 7 octaves. The octave buttons go up and down 3.
@@StarskyCarr So, how much range do they have from a keyboard, without moving the octave buttons while playing, i.e. once they're set?
