    The comment about cranking the pencil sharpener made me laugh lol I asked her what happened to the wall version you had to crank as I was fixing her auto. (She’s also a teacher) lol and her students sharpened the eraser

      @@jamisonsoccer12 the kids love the old crank one, and yes they jam erasers in it, crayons, whatever! 😂

      @@TomsTinkeringandAdventures there’s something about manually grinding that pencil down to a half inch in length in a dim fluorescent lit painted cinder block classroom that was magical. Maybe a little schoolhouse rock in the background

    Safety Third? Such an old school tinkerer. LOL

      I ran the safety department at my last job, the leadership didn’t care for my “Safety Third” stickers but I always said that if safety first was truly adhered to, we would never get anything done! 😃

      @@TomsTinkeringandAdventures, I fixed it!!! I didn't think it worked, I thought the motor had carked it, but I fixed it!!! My five year old electric pencil sharpener works again!!! The automatic pencil detector was broken in two, but by pulling it apart and moving the broken piece it is now ON when turned on, but it works. Thanks again for your video :) I've always been a tinkerer too.

    I tried fixing mine but nothing is jammed what do you think it is maybe the Motor?

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  Год назад

      Possibly. There’s also a switch in most that turns it on when you insert a pencil. It can get bent a bit and not function properly.

    I was born in 1999 and I absolutely love fixing things, it’s pointless to waste so much money and material when it’s something very simple! I can’t tell you how many vacuum cleaners I have found at the curb on my street alone! 95% of them are just clogged! It’s sad how disposable of a society we as Americans have become! Not good for the environment or your wallet ☹️

    Do you happen to know how to adjust a manuel sharpener that sharpens on one side but not much on the other?

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  4 года назад

      moviemakerwannabe I’m not sure, probably not much adjustment possible unless it’s a quality unit.

    • @moviemakerwannabe

      @@TomsTinkeringandAdventures Yeah I was afraid of that, LOL. I got one that has always been that way and reviews have been very mixed so I'm guessing it was a manufacturing defect and I should just toss it. So in that case tearing it all apart won't hurt anything and I might learn something!
      BTW there are some teachers who are saying that sharpening colored pencils in electric pencil sharpeners will cause the motors to burn out because of the wax content. If your wife's class does that it might work better for them to use the small hand held sharpeners or the larger manual ones like we used at school as kids. It might cut the expense of buying new ones.
      I've read that when the sharpeners start to bog down sharpening color pencils that sharpening a few regular pencils will help clear out the built up wax and they will work better.

      moviemakerwannabe you’re exactly right, the colored pencils do cause them to jam.

    What is this thing you call a pencil? How is it used? Does it have spell check?

    I tried putting the eraser in the pencil sharpener in 1st grade and the pencil sharpener kept on going when I took the pencil out. And I called it “The Eraser Sharpener”
