- My tsuka (hilt) has arrived for my sword mountings. I made the fittings (fuchi/kashira) under the guidance of a master sword fittings maker in Tokyo. The base of the mountings (hilt and scabbard) were made by a traditional saya-shi (scabbard maker) in Kyushu, and the handle was wrapped by a prize-winning handle wrapper in Okayama prefecture. The scabbard is being lacquered by a traditional artisan in Niigata prefecture.

The sword in Japan is not merely a weapon, it is a sublime piece of functional art, with deep spiritual and historical significance to the Japanese people. Just like Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms, the Japanese sword is an enduring symbol of Japan. It is my hope to share my love and passion for Japanese swords with all of you here on RUclips and make the Japanese sword accessible to the world by introducing the Japanese sword to new audi-ences from a Japanese perspective. That is why I created this Channel for the promotion and preservation of Japanese swords and related craftsmen.

Sensei, your joy and appreciation is so infectious, it made me very happy to see how enthusiastic you were to receive your new tsuka. I learn something new with each video I watch. Please continue the excellent work.
Wow, thank you. I will do my utmost!
Nothing like being amazed over and over again by a tsuka! Great video!! Thanks for sharing.
You bet!
Few things can make a man more happy than a new sword (or sword part). I look forward to seeing the whole thing coming together.
Paul, I loved seeing your excitement and enthusiasm while opening this! It turned out beautiful! Hope all is well with you and the family!
Thank you! You too!
Absolutely love your tsuka Paul. The solid wrapping pattern in the middle just does something extra to it for me. You're like a kid on Christmas morning :)
🤓 kid in a sweet shop comes to mind good luck in the Shinza
Thanks, but at the moment, I’m not allowed to put it in for fear of copyright issues.
Had a new tsuka made for mine in Japan. Very expensive but worth every penny.
The tsuka came out very beautiful. Thank you for showing us. 🙂💎
So beautiful!! Also katate maki is one of my favourite types of tsuka maki
Was better than Christmas actually!!! So lovely to see your face!! 😄
Kimberly! Long time. I hope all is well!
Wow, I smiled all the video, just noticed! Congratulations!
Yay! Thank you!
Great stuff Paul . Happy for you mate.
Looking forward to the results
Gorgeous, nothing like getting a new tsuka in the mail! A lot of the guys in my dojo prefer the Katate Maki style wrap and I must admit it is likely what I will go with at some point soon. I do really love leather ito as well but one of my shinkens is currently wrapped in silk, perhaps I’ll have it re-wrapped in leather and go with the Katate Maki as well. Hummmm.
I like the way they gradually turn from suede to leather over time.
I wish i could have one of that...
Excellent Good luck
Many many thanks, but unfortunately at the moment it has been refused to the competition for fear of breach of copyright.
Best video yet, Paul.
Because I don’t speak much? Lol.
Beautiful finished project! Congratulations! Love it. For the taikai, Ganbatte!
Thank you, unfortunately at the moment it has been refused to the competition for fear of breach of copyright.
@@Paul_Martin_The_Japanese_Sword Ooh😞 Well, it's a nice piece anyway. Enjoy it. Maybe they will reconsider it in the future and you can use it.
So Beautiful 😎😎
Congrats!! Looks Awesome...
Beautiful!
OMG it's stunningly beautiful Paul ! Woo Hoo, awesome work, good on you!
Exquisite
Just purchased. Facts and Fundamentals of Japanese Swords. A Collectors Guide. Just curious haha
looks great ...You can wipe the swede handle wrap before competition with a mildly damp cloth for cleaning your glasses out to it being fine with no lint.
Cheers and I hope you win.
Thanks. Unfortunately after I made the video it was decided that I am not allowed as they are worried about copyright.
@@Paul_Martin_The_Japanese_Sword well...that took a turn and I'm sorry to hear that.I'm sure it weighs heavy on the heart because I know your passion even though I'm just starting.I hope soon enough your artistic vision and sword will have its glory.
Very nice!
Love it
素晴らしい👏
良かったですね(*^_^*)
Great job Paul, hopefully Japan will be reopen for visitors by November to hopefully see your masterpiece at Meiji Jingu if it gets in. Also who made your shinken, you know a Katana with bo-hi always catches my eye.
Thank you, unfortunately at the moment it has been refused to the competition for fear of breach of copyright. The maker of my blade is somewhat personal to me, but I'll tell you when you come.
@@Paul_Martin_The_Japanese_Sword That is to bad to hear, it would have been cool to see displayed there. And sounds good, I might just have a idea to pitch to you by then as well 😉.
Looking awesome! Good luck in the competition 💪 👍
At the moment, I’m not allowed to put it in for fear of copyright issues.
@@Paul_Martin_The_Japanese_Sword ah no way! Did you check with the creative studio? They should be excited too, i mean its the amalgamation of modern and classical Japanese art.
I need to make enquiries myself, as I don’t think anyone is going to do it for me. I would have thought that it came under the umbrella of fan art, as it is for personal use and a non commercial project.
