CUNY TV is proud to re-broadcast newly digitized episodes of DAY AT NIGHT, the popular public television series hosted by the late James Day. Day was a true pioneer of public television: co-founder of KQED in San Francisco, president of WNET upon the merger of National Educational Television (NET) and television station WNDT/Channel 13, and most recently, Chairman of the CUNY TV Advisory Board. The series features fascinating interviews with notable cultural and political figures conducted in the mid 1970's. (Taped:04/20/74)

She is 33 here…..and at the height of her stunning beauty…..👍🏻
Very difficult to find words to discribe this rare, rare human being named Joan Baez. She keeps more than sixty years of a deeply coherent and loving journey , offering her immense talent and heart to , in her own words , give voice to the ones that don´t have one . Today on her 77 years of an inspirational and fruiiful life, the ORGANIZED LOVE remains the sacred label she honors , with unshakable commitment. Lucky us having her still among us.
Beautiful Synopsis of a beautifully Lady
YES! ...... My first civil rights hero and role model (when I was 13)
Joan was the inspiration of my wife Deborah to fight through overwhelming circumstance. She sings about truth and pain and her soul will touch you when she does. What a brave soul to stand up and have a voice. She is surrounded by a golden aura of love. Thank you Joan. We once met in Tucson and you made my wife Deborah so very very happy. Giving her the back stage honor of meeting
Her before all the VIPs .from your show.❤️Forever your fan!
Well I must confess it is one of the best Baez interview I have seen on youtube. Finally someone who doesn't ask about Woodstock and Bob Dylan! I think she feels confident so she is more open about talking on her intimate life, her son, her feeling as a mother, as a woman, as a dark skinned woman in USA, and what I heard from her recently didn't change much. I guess she must feel a bit more discouraged nowadays, but not less "fighter" as you can hear when she sings her last song "Nasty Man"! I understand people who say they don't like her voice, her music even her politics, but she sounds so true, so rightful so soulful, you can't belittle her. She sounds she never gave up and never will. Thanks for posting this vid.
Why can't people be this well mannered today???
I'm not sure why someone below called her an 'arrogant Narcissistic' except for misinterpreting her self-confidence? In any case, she strikes me as someone who is very very thoughtful and grounded. Mr. Day certainly tossed questions at her rapidly and you could see she was trying to finish answering one question while he went on to the next. Thx for posting!
San Francisco interview, 1974, She'd already been a hero of mine for 14 years. Still is today, 6/3/21. Am so very pleased she is a Kennedy Center Honoree on Sunday.
What a beautiful talented woman. Powerful message and we fortunate to have witnessed it . Thank you, Joan. You are the real deal.
I find her very beautiful and even at 82. My Grandmother told me true beauty always comes from inside and I think thats where Joan shines through so brightly!
Absolutely great to hear Joan talk about her life..She never stops standing up and being counted. She has walked behind great people ...great pacifists. Thank you for the opportunity to hear this wonderful interview,
45th anniversary of the interview. Still real and sincere.
Joan Baez......beautiful Warrior of Light.....!!!
Natural and unaffected. Love her.
Victor Jara!! This woman is simply wonderful!! Gracias a la Vida! Gracias a la Joan Baez...
Joan Baez deserves Nobel peace prize!
Amen!
ABSOLUTELY!!!
For sure. Still Hopeful. 6/3/21
I've always been in a quandary about this:. Joan Baez was already an established singer, she invited this unknown person to join her in concerts. She made his songs famous for YEARS. He was a good song writer but that was all he was. He warbled his voice with many artists but he could never sing. She promoted his songs with a voice that the world loved and respected. He would still be an unknown had she not supported his songs. Yet this person received the Nobel Peace Prize. There are thousands of song writers but it takes ONE beautiful voice to make the world aware. Joan Baez is deserving of all universal honors and awards.
@@azdesertgray5937He got the Nobel Literature Prize, not the Peace Prize. That one should definitely go to Joan.
What a wonderful woman! AIs a joy to have her among us! Peace and love to all. Thank you Joan for your beauty!
Loved Joan is was my idol! I'm 76 and will always Love her,and Beautiful Sister Mimi! Bob.
Incredible multi faceted woman...
An icon...
wow! such deep love. also chapeau! to the interviewer who managed to bring out her jewels by asking opening questions and creating beautiful atmosphere
that interviewer must be thinking, damn this she freaking amazing
Man, was she pretty! (amongst her many other gifts)
Still is
Yes, natural beauty. High cheek bones, lovely thick hair, very expressful eyes..
Matter of taste.I allways thought she was quite rough. But I guess it's like Dylans voice, some like it some don't. ....No problem
She is SO graceful
For good reason, often referred to as Saint Joan. gentle heart of gold, loaded with talent and empathy.
...and beautiful timing: how she segues between the two songs at the end, and then finishes a cappella with room for a moment of silence before the credits stop.
Funny how she had to explain what Amnesty International was back in those days, not many people had herard of it yet. Such a great interview. Striking how consistent her views and thoughts are, as they've really changed very little in the Forty years since.
Great, great interview with a beautiful and moving performance at the end.
The song at the end written by the beautiful, courageous man and all of who she is and honors and fights for justice. Also, the interview style was very staccato and almost interruptive. She holds sway with grace and had a way of answering a deeper truth rather than the subtle sidetrack of questioning. 💜💜💜💜💜
Scotland loves you, Joan.
SAINT JOAN ❤
she is so beauty and talented and smart and so... que hermosa y sus ideales también
i think this is probably the best interview with her, that i've seen.....it's too bad that this isn't on "How sweet the sound".....maybe if they re-release it, they could add this interview as an extra feature
An AWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESOME WOMAN!!! 😍
What a smart interview making - showing a real interest and not demonstrating himself like a TV-star
She sure does; Beautiful hair and eyes as well.
Wonderful Joan!
Someone to admire...
Joan Baez live in London / Ireland end of 2014.
See you there............Joan
I knew nothing about her ..I still don't know much ..great voice

❤ALWAYS 💥✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️💯🤟🤟🤟🤟😉
Refreshing she didn't have to talk about you know who....
I can relate to her .I grew up in Southern California in the 60’S
I’m Chicano we called lots of
racial slurs .
I'm in love with her!!!...Charlie O'
Jeanne OBrien, welcome to the club! Absolutely every fan loves Joan Baez! There will never be another like her. We are blessed by her presence in our world!
Hi. Liked your Channel! Carry on the good work
You're trying desperately to rationalize your hatred of those who expose injustice because you prefer injustice to persist. In this interview Joan Baez is natural, unaffected, unassuming, and vulnerable. She's also talented, smart, and adorable.
She has a beautiful nose.
~ Gracias a la Vida ♡ y~ Joan~

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Today's singers, actors or actresses who are so called star of the world of entertainment who earn lotta money and spent them for their own luxury, should learn from Joan Baez.
Very true. She's on a pedestal, an idol!
beauty
Why is it narcissism to discuss yourself during an interview about yourself? It is the nature of the medium.
Sean Riley The best logical response yet. Thank you.
Dey Coloris Joan Baez.
9:44…… dang back then they can just say anything so freely.
Name of the first song she sang or songwriter? So much history here
Kaitlin Morrison Gracias a la vida
Kaitlin Morrison Violetta para
Víctor Jara "Te recuerdo Amanda"
Oh ........WOW.
Echoes of Linda Ronstadt before, anyone ever heard of her. Did anyone else catch that?
By the way what was the gist of the song she was singing?
この曲は良いですね。!(^^)! コメントお願いします。♪
A beautiful soul. Just to see and hear her is uplifting. The obscene troll, Dwight Davies is obviously not very well and needs help if that's what he takes away from this interview. He should be pitied. I hope he can find some joy.
Demais... ! E uma parcela da população, hoje anseia pela volta dos militares .Depois disto tudo! Poucos sabem, o que aconteceu na América do Sul .
stiff upper lip but so lovely
9:43 ...drops the N word.
yea, i was a little shocked at that!!
Yes, today we are all shocked. But go back to the 60s & 70s, this was sadly acceptable. This is why Joan Baez was a non-violent protester and an activist. We have come a long way but we're not there yet. We need Saint Joan Baez to live many many more years!
The first wokie.
Wokie?
lady craves attention...head case
Hi. I never really commnt much on here because when people say cruel things they are generally cowards. I suppose you'd never say that TO her.
I'd say this to you, Fuck You, head case.
What an odious piece of shit you are
I see your post was 8 years ago. I will hope you've learned more...a lot more... about Joan Baez since then...and significantly changed your opinion to the more accurate (positive) one her years as a pacifist and civil rights supporter deserve...in addition to her beautiful, .. I am 82 now, first learned of her, vividly, when she was a part of MLK's March for Jobs and Freedom in DC in August 1963. The young University of Chicago poli scie undergrad organized a busload to DC for the event and is another one who has remained true to his efforts for #AllofUs since then.
Incredible multi faceted woman...
