  • In this lesson we cover the introduction to the Science of Sarf along with 3 letter verbs and how to conjugate them in the past tense. We are using the book “Arabic Morphology for Beginners by Abdul Wahhab Trevor Faulk” which has been made available for purchase on amazon at the following link:
    www.amazon.com/Arabic-Morphol...
Morphology in Arabic is unique compared to other languages. Only through one basic word can give birth to hundreds of other words with different meanings. The ability to understand how this works is called “SARF”. The knowledge of Sarf will enable the reader to navigate through Arabic text to not only understand what is being said but also why was it expressed the way it was. No one can truly say they speak or know the Arabic Language until they have developed an understanding of “Sarf”. It is our intention and objective after reading this book and completing its exercises that the reader will no longer be intimidated by the Arabic Language but rather find joy and ease in it. There is an old adage “Learning a new language can feel like trying to write in water but knowing how the language works will remain forever.”

This was very well taught allahumubarak. My only question is about the steps to take to learn Arabic. As you said it's best to do madinah Arabic book 1 then study sarf so does that mean to complete the sarf then continue with the other books or study alongside each other ?

I would suggest that it is imperative to build a strong foundation with Madinah Arabic book course one and after completing it study sarf. If a person already is aware of the grammar rules taught within Madinah book one then there is no harm in studying sarf alongside it.
