In the old days, 1970s you could walk from the office all the way out to the New Bedford. They tried to clean it up and were stopped as this was now a fish hatchery. Was an amazing place and a great classroom for someone studying for their Coast Guard engineers license. Name it, it was there. NYCRR Tugs, Pennsy Tugs, Navy, Army, 10 double ended Ferrys. FDNY Fireboats, USCG Fireboats, lighters, derricks, cannons, a mobile laundry, antique trucks. On and On.
Must be seen in person. Ive had the pleasure of being able to see these all up close. I performed a commercial dive job next to them and during down time would take our work skiff and explore .Unfortunately time and scrappers have stripped them from anything salvageable.

as a career Shipbuilder... I dislike seeing how these once mighty, working vessels are left to rot. Not to be negative, but I would love to kayak around these former beasts.
Working with all the steam systems in downtown Manhattan and seeing how different buildings are retrofitted through the years to keep the steam working, it makes me wish I could meet the old engineers that put pride in steam machines instead of the ones now left to watch those systems erode as there's nothing I can do to help save pipes who haven't been loved since the 70s.
@First sight thought this was another ship graveyard in Russia. Never thought this would be possible in the US. Exploring the coastline of Staten Island in Google Maps there’s even more rubbish, all hidden by mostly green walls from the streets. Sadly an example of the once most powerful Nation in the World in rapid decline. Not even to speak of a huge part of it’s inhabitants supporting a dangerous orange lunatic where the rest of the World is watching this happening instead of the best Netflix series. But left totally astonished having to recognize t’s a real live soap show…

I wish someone could save the marine boilers from these wrecks and maybe the other steam equipment that may still be there
