Just wanted to say that everything in this video is my opinion and if you disagree lets talk about it! but please dont be hateful and mean in the comments i will find you, Thank you again for watching!
im not too immersed in arttok but sometimes i get news on what's going on in the community but i feel like, especially on tiktok, there's this huge fixation on having an art style which honestly is not one of the most important things when it comes to art, so i hate when young artists get clowned for their "art style" when in reality they don't even have one bc their still a beginner and are still learning the basics, shii even i'm still learning and i've been drawing my whole life. i just wish more ppl were a bit kinder and weren't prone to bullying bc for the most part they're just trying to do their best imo but welcome to youtube! looking forward to whatever content you have in stored for us!! :)
Tiktok is a very "Fast paced" app. I realized this when I thought about how many videos the average consumer scrolls through. And because of that, it's pushes older post deeper and deeper into the void. Which then caused people to trun towards posting more often, and when they saw that it didn't work, they started to move towards the more hostile content. A videos has a max a week to take off and if it doesn't, it's then fewer as a failure. So to get more people to see their post, a lot of people turned towards bashing their art and being self-deprecating to get comments and likes. Which unfortunately turned the community into a hostile environment. If a beginner artist doesn't immediately bash their own art then someone will do it for them. Sorry for the little rant :(
I don't even think it's just an arttok thing, either. People on that app just find any reason to be mad at things and put other people down. Bullying is so normalized on tiktok, and it's why I'm also close to deleting the app. Not only does it eat up my phone's data, but the people on there are so insufferable and rude. Especially to people who are young.
Hello ;0; it’s so refreshing to see someone else who shares my opinions😭🙏🏻 also love your art btw! Another thing I feel is so detrimental is that tiktok/short form video content doesn’t rlly give a viewer any opportunity to really appreciate an art piece since the majority of a process video is sped up and flashes the final result at the end. Or a lot of people end up having to make relatable doodles just to be seen (which are fine and all just..same thing about low effort high view count blues) It is repetitive like you said and it doesn’t rlly allow an artist to showcase the best of their skills. At least as someone who’s worked hard, I wanna feel rewarded for putting out quality stuff and it feels like tiktok, shorts, and reels don’t allow me to truly do that.
Personally, I don’t use tik tok as much as other people do. I saw a shock content video one time and genuinely lost all interest like it traumatized me. All because some sicko wanted views. I deleted my account and made a new one a while back, I literally post just speedpaints or memes I make for insta and reupload them there. I have no interest in the platform itself. Mostly cause it feels like every second I’m on tik tok my brain is rotting slowly away.
Gonna go on my own little rant here: I feel like there’s not really any good platform for artists to get their stuff out there! With RUclips, Instagram and TikTok, there’s this “silent obligation” (for lack of a better word) to serve the algorithm, the only way to get big is to conform to the algorithm. Then there’s tumblr, which has less of an algorithm but because of that, a lot of art just gets buried and never seen (at least that was my experience back when I had a tumblr). I so wish there was some sort of platform that balanced the two, an algorithm strong enough to get people’s art seen, but not so strong that it crushes anything that isn’t trending.
I’ve been drawing on malmal recently and I think it’s honestly really cool. I wish there was a platform like malmal but for posting art outside of what’s drawn on the site.
you’re so right😭 i can spend HOURS on something and get 0 views💔 it’s very disheartening but in the end i just moved to tumblr where i still don’t get thousands of reblogs/likes, but at least it’s just a little space to post my art for myself c:
Congrats on your first vid!! Also I completely get where you're coming from. I also started out on TikTok and so far RUclips has been a lot better for me. It feels like your effort is rewarded a lot more + the people who engage with your videos seem to genuinely care rather than just liking and scrolling. The only downside is that it's a bit harder to make mutuals. Good luck on your RUclips journey, it's gonna be dope!!
i deleted tiktok back in september due to these things. and other non art related things but... like genuinely people hating on ceratin artists and then trying to act like theyve done nothing wrong is so infuriiating. i redownloaded like last week purely to save illustration videos and edits and have not used it for anything else.
It’s so discouraging because once it stops u know it’s not going anywhere and I feel like that’s worse then just having low views, people just aren’t being shown your content
You know what. In regards to the jelly artstyle, people are really telling on themselves that they spend WAY too much time on tiktok. Log off! Go search for different/smaller artists! Be intentional! If youre only seeing one thing over and over - and yes, the algorithm can be blamed but - consider using your own power to disengage? And leave others alone?
I saw this creator getting shit for the way they draw side profiles and it was so weird??? Like most of them are non artist and they freak out over literally anything different it so annoying
I hope to see more from ya! I’m kinda trying this is out too but I’ve been stressed about keeping up with trends and stuff. But your video gave me some confidence for the day to figure it all out! 😊
TBH I think people in general have become ruder for some reason?? Like I think back to 2020 when the art hoe aesthetic was super popular and it was so easy to have souly art as ur fyp (ive tried getting 90% art related things on my art accounts' fyp multiple times n it never worked) and I never saw a 'oh!' equivilent and if there was a hate comment you could garentee people would be DOGGING on that person. I feel like the fact opinions and good looking things are in the eye of the beholder and the general concept of subjectivity has stopped existing in many peoples minds. Like I recently had an argument with someone and when I said I thought art can really be anything and doesn't have a defined definition they got like crazy mad. I literally dunno what happened and it makes me clutch my pearls and my toes grip the ground in a cold sweat thinking of what could've happened to me if I started posting on tiktok now with the level of experience I had before when I originally started posting. Also! I saw this in my reccomended feed and was like suspecting it was you the whole time and gasped when u showed the pic of ur oc, congrats on ur first vid!! Cant wait to see where your channel goes.
Honestly TikTok had been just making me lose my motivation for everything in general aswell I stopped drawing for a bit and I was just doomscrolling every day for a while, I realized this issue a month ago and deleted tiktok aswell, now I’m feeling my want for drawing back and I’m getting back into my old interests, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to TikTok
Congrats on first video I actually just posted my first video yesterday too what a coincidence I stumble upon your video lol love your art btw and I’ll subscribe to support you on your journey!
As a former TikTok artist, I also kinda got burnout(because I felt like my artstyle changed too much) until I was told it was a good thing, now that I’m not on TikTok too often, it was satisfying because I got to enjoy my artstyle more without caring about views or what people think
as someone who has also ran a semi popular tiktok account (it had around 13k so not super big lol) and has had art tiktok accounts in the past i totally agree, i think thats what separates the 1% from everyone else and sadly that gap is growing even larger.
I'm planning to start up my youtube channel too (everything is a major wip rn) but I also blew up a bit on tiktok a couple times--and every time i would get stuck in the grind (tm). Last year I got so burnt out, that I barely even drew that year?? WHICH WAS SO SAD??? Every time I'd post a video that wasn't with the fandom I was into at that *moment* it'd totally flop, or I'd just get less and less views until I find that sweet spot on the algorithm again. Lets just say... tiktok is ABSOLUTELY killing artists with it's function--and because they're short videos, the only way to stay relevant is to at least post once a week (or almost every day). The feedback is nice, knowing people want to support you is nice, but functionally for an artists experience, it's so hard to keep up with without crashing and burning for a couple months.
Would love to see OC content and sims play throughs! You’re oc art really inspired me to work on mine when I first found you, loved this video it really spoke the truth about the increasing of fast paced art with the fear the art you truly love doing can get bullied. Thank you for this, I posted something a year ago of my art and I got bullied into deleting the video because people kept going on and on with the “oh!” “This didn’t serve like you thought it would” “wow” IT WAS A ART OF TWO CHARACTERS INTERACTING😭. Luckily I was able to bounce back and improve but that could have really damaged my love of art!
I haven't posted on tiktok for a while, I started being more active on Instagram. It's funny how different apps are, in Instagram 1,000 or more likes seems like a lot but on tiktok it's just so small. I honestly love Instagram , and after a few months of getting fans and follows I've gotten to the point of "If my followers don't like it, they can leave." So atp I put what I want and if they don't like it that's cool too. I've gotten to realize that if I care too much about recognition, and likes, instead of liking what I do, then what the hell was I doing. Art is fun if you let it be, but if it's forced what is the point. Honestly at this point no app is safe for the art babies, specially Instagram reels. It all depends on fate and where the algorithm has pushed your content to. Tiktok my opps at this point.
WE BE STRUGGLING!! no matter what i do, animations, illustrations.. i fear every artist is going to be burnt out or having impostor syndrome. literally most of my yt short feed is just kids stealing art from bigger accounts. if any artist is struggling for engagement PLS Drop the username so i can support 💗
As someone who’s been on the art side of the internet for like,, 6 years? (Oml) it’s definitely a big problem, but its also like history repeating itself 😭 I can’t help but see like Calarts style and Mary Sue hatred when i see these fights and shit its ridiculous, but with how fast everything is now it’s impossible to keep up. Some advice I heard recently that made me sit down and reconsider stuff was “find a way to celebrate your art without posting online first”??? And that sounds so nice???? Idk how to do it (some people share art with fam/friends which i think is so sweet) but it’s something I wanna work on this year I love ur vibe and energy, instant sub 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

I've been on TikTok for a few months as a creator, and fortunately I've seen a lot of support and love among smaller creators. It makes me think that hate itself does not come between artists but other people that don't even draw. Apart from the issue of styles, the (fair) indignation for white washing and the Koolen tutorial, I have not encountered hate in the community. Or maybe it's my algorithm haha
Or calling someone artstyle something like shipping artstyle like what at the end of day if don’t like the art u see on ur fyp then scroll cause I think people feel like they physically have to respond like it so easy to scroll….
Im not even on art tiktok at all but this was an interesting video :3 ive noticed tiktok is largely hostile in all communities? I imagine because of how engagment works on there but idk. I hope youtube proves less stressful and mean for you!
Also congrats on your first vid!! That’s so fun! But yes I agree this shit is getting OLD- like why is this generation so scared of being called cringe or like- a trend follower??? Even IF that art style was a “tiktok art style” why does….it matter???? Let people experiment with art! Make new things! It’s how we get great things like barbenhiemer, orange theory, etc etc! Art is not supposed to fit into an aesthetic box!!
Honestly, Tik Tok isn't a good place in general to gain attention on your art unless you're fine with exposure through drama and hate. That place is a cesspool and is only really good for when you feel like screwing with people intentionally 😅
the "10 hour painting get no attention but my 3 minute doodles gets 1000000000 views" thing is like NOT new at all. It's been a struggle for artists online since social media became a thing. Memes, jokes, rants, drama, fan art, tutorials are the stuff that gets views. And if that's like not your thing, then it's better to just not be on tiktok at all. Every time I hear about art tiktok I only hear shitty things. So like... just don't be on there, it sounds absolutely awful. You will be better off mentally as an artist by just hanging out with your art friends in a chat, than trying to keep up with the latest tik tok art trends.
Twitter has too, let's be honest. Lots of weirdos saying they "fixed" art by making a character a different race, and often fat. I just wanna see people draw stuff they personally find interesting and not see it be edited by some rando. You seem pretty cool tbh.
I stumbled upon this video randomly for the sole reason of trying to find new artists and communities to join. And i really love your vibe!!💖✌️😊 ... I believe right now we're in a weird Era of where social media is literally brain rotting people heads. Not only the mindlessly scrolling and short attention spans, its also the toxicity of people and the discouragement that it's has created and is going on in social platforms. Especially tiktok.
Heyy Caramel! I don't know if you remember me but how have you been? And I agree with all of this, I don't understand why we are putting down beginner artists especially since we all have been at that point in our lives. It's honestly unfair how people are being treated just because their art isn't "good enough" and I wish people would be more kind to each other. If someone wants to say something, I want them to be constructive criticism instead of plain old bullying.
I forgot to say this in the video but please remember that art quality doesn’t equate to likes and views, if ur feeling like how I feel in this video take a break from the internet to study, practice and draw for yourself! it shouldn’t matter how many people see it what matters is that u had the most fun making it
The problem with tiktok as an art platform is that people usually go there to find relatable / funny content and its really hard to make that out of a good piece of art , apposed to twitter or insta which is primarily a photo sharing site ... Or maybe all I said doesn't matter and its just ppl on tiktok being insufferable as usual
Yeah it's pretty sad, TikTok could've actually been pretty good for artists but it went to crap :[ Btw what platform would you reccomend with posting art? Rn I'm using reddit and twitter (failing miserably at twitter)
Instagram! And I did hear about Pinterest (there is a bad reposting problem on there tho so make ur rules clear in ur bio and watermark ur stuff it also takes forever for people to see u) its rough everywhere tho
Off topic but I also wanna play baldurs gate so bad but it's rated r and my computer will probably burst into flames the second it starts downloading it 😘
Just wanted to say that everything in this video is my opinion and if you disagree lets talk about it! but please dont be hateful and mean in the comments i will find you, Thank you again for watching!
I don't get why some artists bully beginner artists. We all had start some where, Leonardo Da Vinci wasn't just magically granted his art skills.
I want to see his stick figure drawings when he was 3

now it’s the “jelly artstyle”
the "calarts style" too..
I haven't been around the art community after 2016, but returning back... I'm appalled how people are shitty when they do shit like this.

Twitter has too, let's be honest. Lots of weirdos saying they "fixed" art by making a character a different race, and often fat. I just wanna see people draw stuff they personally find interesting and not see it be edited by some rando. You seem pretty cool tbh.
Idk Philip or whatever his name is,,, HES SO HANDSOME!!! Draw him more!!!
Damn you have such good art!!
Meow Wolf beanie??? You have taste
AHHHH VASH MY BABY IN THE BG SPEEDPAINT AHHHHH😋😋😋😋😋😋💗💗💗💗💖💖💖💖💖💞💞💞💞💞💞
I stumbled upon this video randomly for the sole reason of trying to find new artists and communities to join. And i really love your vibe!!💖✌️😊
...
I believe right now we're in a weird Era of where social media is literally brain rotting people heads. Not only the mindlessly scrolling and short attention spans, its also the toxicity of people and the discouragement that it's has created and is going on in social platforms. Especially tiktok.
Ty and welcome!
I see a problem with TikTok especially on the art side is Ai art and also the art community are very toxic 😭😭
the ai art is terrible
@@caramelfrapz I actually had one person block me cause I kept commenting on the vids but the amount of non artists defending em is crazy
I do remember u! And yes I’ve been good! Welcome to the channel!!
I wanna commission you so bad omg I love your art smmm
Thank you for adding a reason for me not to create TikTok. 😊
I don't need to follow the trend.
I WANNA SEE THAT REDESIGN
more phillip lore... art... please... please...
Didnt come from tiktok. But subbed for the vibes and art
Pretty cool vid! Also, your character is so cute
VASH SPEEDPAINT ON THE BACKGROUND???!?!?!?! INSTANT SUBSCRIBE (fire emoji fire emoji)
i wanna make youtube too but im scared off grown people
I hate TikTok, I’m flipping really hard and I just want to give up on art
I forgot to say this in the video but please remember that art quality doesn’t equate to likes and views, if ur feeling like how I feel in this video take a break from the internet to study, practice and draw for yourself! it shouldn’t matter how many people see it what matters is that u had the most fun making it
TRIPLE FUCKING THREAT!!! I KNOW THATS RIGHT!! 🦅🦅🦅
YEAAAAAAAHHHH
The problem with tiktok as an art platform is that people usually go there to find relatable / funny content and its really hard to make that out of a good piece of art , apposed to twitter or insta which is primarily a photo sharing site ... Or maybe all I said doesn't matter and its just ppl on tiktok being insufferable as usual
Yeah it's pretty sad, TikTok could've actually been pretty good for artists but it went to crap :[
Btw what platform would you reccomend with posting art? Rn I'm using reddit and twitter (failing miserably at twitter)
Instagram! And I did hear about Pinterest (there is a bad reposting problem on there tho so make ur rules clear in ur bio and watermark ur stuff it also takes forever for people to see u) its rough everywhere tho
