No, he is honest. To many got to hyped for the game. And when their hype wasn't fulfilled they lashed out in anger. It was an average game at launch and still pretty average with the updates. The only thing that really annoyed me was the price tag.
I was lucky and was able to get my $60 back. So disappointing. I was looking forward to multiplayer but was greatly disappointed when it came out as single player. The worst is everyone who still believe the game is multiplayer.
I have played well over 200 hours in NMS, and I have to agree that the pacing is all wrong for most players. That said, I almost liked that it's upside down, maybe it's why I carried on playing so long. The latest updates have fixed a number of issues people had, but I don't think they've fixed that pacing thing very much, it's still a gamble going to land on new planets especially in the survival mode, but it is something you adjust to, and almost makes for an old style unforgiving game play, I was used to as a 40+ year old. NMS is not a game for everyone, and it was over hyped by the community as much as the developers. I doubt many of the people who were burned by it first time around will give it a second go when they do finally finish it.
I play this game and I do like it, but what you said in this video is true. When I started out I was like..."oh god this is just grind." A little bit later I went into space and it got a little better. Until the next planet was one of those with harsh environment and no surviving capabilities. So I left that planet as fast as I could. After that I was aimlessly wandering around the galaxy, not knowing what to do exactly. I started telling stories on my twitch channel about it. Making up a bunch of random stuff and sharing laughs with those in chat. This is what makes the game fun to me. It's relaxed and I can screw around with it for some entertainment value. Giving planets, creatures and plants stupid juvenile names is one thing, but creating a whole silly story behind it just awesome. Then again I have a degree as a game designer so it's kind of what I do. I do get why most people dislike it, I also feel the price should have been around 40€ instead of 60€. Especially since I just have "self invented fun" with it instead of playing it seriously and trying to get to the center of the galaxy. Yet i also believe the developers will add more and more stuff to the game as the years progress. (if it's not dead by then of course)
and it's done. I have run out of stuff to do in the game. Seen all the planets, species, aliens, language signs, ships, rocks, even made a dick statue... So this was 60$ for a 2 month experience where they promissed a 2 year experience. Oh the lies! xD
Anyone that thought this game was going to be more than what it turned out to be is a fool. The developer being so coy in interviews prior to launch about what you actually do in the game was a HUGE red flag.
Whenever I come across a new video game pundit, nowadays, I always check for their obligatory no man's sky video. If they saw through the hype and saw the game for what it was I know I can safely trust their opinion. Definitely earned yourself a new subscriber.
Crazy good production quality! I can tell you take your time when developing these videos and it shows. You got my sub man! Can't wait to see what's next!
it sucks that this game turned out that way there was so much hype and it seems that it was not all that from what these awesome dudes researched, great video much respect fellas
no problem fellas you guys deserve it you do amazing work its why I added you to the awesome dudes and duddettes side of my channel I don't have many soldiers but whats mine is yours if they so desire
I don't know if any of you have ever heard of Astroneer but it's essentially a fantastic version of No Man's Sky with multiplayer and I dare to say limitless possibility. It's still in early access but the potential of it is extremely high (fuck me I sound like a spokesperson)
How so? Combat and general gunplay is still shit, the majority of the game is still a massive grind to get better gear in order to grind, glitches that cause you to fall out of the map are common place, most of the game is still tedious repetition work, “once you’ve seen enough planets, you have seen them all” still apples, you’re still forced to wait for most features (e.g. waiting for the egg to let you continue the quest, waiting for a settlement building to finish, etc), customisation is still meh (especially for ships), the lore is still borderline non-existent, etc. Outside of new features, no man’s sky is still shit, especially compared to its adversaries.
Good vid I just don't agree with your last point that the game is average at beat because I enjoy no mans sky quite a bit I find it to be a great game I think a better statement would have been the game isn't what everyone expected but is still enjoyable for some gamers other than that great vid dude
I found it unplayable. Did not ever get off the first planet on multiple tries. Worst time, I was running towards a building and then fell down a hole that I COULD NOT GET OUT OF! Just plain dumb.
That's the thing I hear a lot "it's not the game I thought it would be". And everyone is blaming hello games for "lying" about the game. And lots of stuff which aren't in the game that we're in it originally was stuff announced back in 2014. Which as a gamer you should expect to happen with all games. Hello games was just naive and announced it to early. I personally got the game that I 100% expected it to be and new that after about 20-30 hours I'd be bored of it and I was. I think the hype train killed it and also if it was a £20 game on steam without sony marketing it like the next big thing I think it would have been a massive success.
So, what I'm gathering from this video is No Man's Sky is essentially Minecraft with space travel and shittier game mechanics? Well, from what the developers have been saying about it before it's release, it's clear they didn't really deliver. I think this will be a game that I skip. Great video though. Still more than willing to collaborate on some content in the very near future. :)
It doesn’t take that long to get off the first planet, once that happens you’re free to explore, you only need spend about 10 minutes getting fuel if you run out, none of the stuff is that expensive and resources are easy to get if you know where to look, (granted not every player knows where to loo), as for your argument about the procedural generation, your not wrong, the first time I played this game I spawned on a planet with radiation and toxicity killing me faster than I could blink, I guess the game is a marmite scenario
I don't agree and I think your model has it backwards concerning NMS. It's the first hours of the game that's the best. Just check the walkthru videos of other youtubers - with commentary. Mining resources so that you can take off and fly for the first time, escaping your origin planet and going to your 2nd and maybe 3rd planet and then going onto another star system, is where the game lives up to the hype. Beyond that, that's where the game has problems. Another problem is the randomness of the game - procedural generation. It took 2 days of solid playing to get all three atlas passes while other players got them much earlier. And the last creature to scan is fucking diabolical - that took, easily, hours to complete per planet and that is one of the things I hate about the game. The randomness of the game has to be addressed and changed - making timely progress so that you're not THAT frustrated. After a solid week of playing - it's only just now that I've got the theta warp drive. At this point I'm ready to give up because there are so many other games coming out, and I'm also looking at the xbox to see what's going on over there.
Yeah i guess everyone will have a different experience due to the random nature of the game. I'm glad you had a fun early game. Mine was quite laborious, I did a lot more exploring than anything. You may wanna check out Osiris: New Dawn. I did a vid on it you could check out. It's not perfect, but it's better than No Man's Lie.
Downward Thrust conversely though, and I know I'm late to the party on this vid, a lot of players talk about pacing but don't fully understand it your explanation was certainly helpful to a friend of mine :)
Average, at best? You are too kind.
No, he is honest. To many got to hyped for the game. And when their hype wasn't fulfilled they lashed out in anger. It was an average game at launch and still pretty average with the updates. The only thing that really annoyed me was the price tag.
You may not have finished the game. The "ending" is the biggest reason not to waste your time.
Yeah...I couldn't stomach it. I heard about it though

I'm glad you got your money back - thank god for Steam's refund policy :D

I totally agree with your talking points. It does have its charm for a bit, however.

Yep. Crowbcat truly is a saint!
you're assuming most people watch more than the trailers...

Thanks Jay! Nice to have your feedback :D
I'm proud to say I finished Witcher 3. On normal (except for two boss fights I went to easy on.)
I don't know if any of you have ever heard of Astroneer but it's essentially a fantastic version of No Man's Sky with multiplayer and I dare to say limitless possibility. It's still in early access but the potential of it is extremely high (fuck me I sound like a spokesperson)
hey, man, I dunno what you're talkin' about, I love full priced early access titles. Flawless.
LOL. Nice. :D
Be careful not all full priced early access titles r good but if u do like it in the end its ur choice
This does not age well

Great video man, well said and love the game design elements included. Lot to learn :)
Thanks again!!

Yeah. I can agree with that. Thanks for watching. :)

Actually, Sony recommended the game not to be sold at full price. I read that from a reliable source. Just forgot the source.
Thank you for confirming my fears and saving me 60 yankee greenbacks
You are welcome Frank Neff.
You should maybe do a everything wrong with telltales batman episode 1
I wish I had the passion to play those games. I'm hoping to do something for Deus Ex soon :)

Thanks...we will definitely collab soon. As for the game - wait for a sale. It's not all-that.
THAT WEAPON LOOKS SO HALO. IF I'M MICROSOFT I'M CALLING MY LAWYERS.
Lmao #Yes
Did i hear u say "center of the earth"?

Sounds like minecraft to me, but people still enjoy it.
Maybe that pacing doesn't apply to sandbox game.
Honestly you didnt have to spend 3 minutes describing the pace of normal games to us, giving a summary would be nicer
Yeah, in retrospect I agree - that section was 2 minutes too long. Thanks for the critique. :)
Downward Thrust conversely though, and I know I'm late to the party on this vid, a lot of players talk about pacing but don't fully understand it your explanation was certainly helpful to a friend of mine :)
Dude it relies on mining the whole time did you even play this game
it's a 3d Starbound with less content
that pacing doesn't apply to dark souls, intro?? pfff, nah, here do whatever you want while getting wrecked
Re-review after 1.3 please. It is so good now in my opinion.
Yeah everything is wrong
"the intellectual gaming community" ? lol
simple. they lied.
Average? Lol yeah ok keep telling yourself that
