As for Yebba, I truly believe she is the voice of a generation, here to bless us in these strange times. She is the singer/songwriter that comes around rarely. Her buttery voice, her agility, her lyrics, her melodies....take my breath away. In the same league as Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Aretha, Jazmine Sullivan...and the ones you mentioned. I thnk these are the finest background singers I have ever heard...and I have been a background singer as well as a solo singer all my life (six decades). Yebba has the exquisite taste of finding the best background vocalists around. And giving them the space to shine. Yebba is a force of nature with the good taste of surroundinge herself with the best singers and musicians! Love your reaction!
Yebba started as a backup singer so I think she is very picky about who she brings on as backup singers and her bands. She wants to shine a light on all the amazing talent that doesn't get shown in the forefront and get mainstream praise
Sadly Yebba's mother committed suicide, her album is called Dawn which is her mother's name. She also has a song recorder live called October Sky which has a few elements of memories of her mom, which I believe I read was a school teacher.

what a lovely reaction, i was moved just like you were. so glad to see you heaping the praise on the bgv because they are *incredible!* this whole tiny desk is on repeat for me i just want to offer some stuff she said in interviews that deepened stuff for me. the song at the end is directly dedicated to her mom, but stand and all i ever wanted still have her mom as the core of them too. she said all i ever wanted isnt about a partner at all, it’s about god’s love, which she wanted always wanted and then struggled with after her mom’s passing. if you’re tryna have some feelings, try listening to that song framing each ‘you’ as god and each ‘her’ as her mom. it really changes the song completely

I can't get enough of listening to her and watching her perform. I totally agree that she needs to be seen and heard by a much wider audience. The cream will rise to the surface.
