  • We're now up to 20 miles training tosses. With only 2 weeks left until my first ever pigeon race there's a noticeable difference between the hens and the cocks.

      Enjoying your channel 👌Glad to see them coming well for you, bet you can't wait to race. Wouldn't worry too much about the water in the troughs, they're definitely drinking in between their feed! Good luck for the yb season 🤞✊

    Also just curious, as with them trapping so well, have you taken my advice in the less than an ounce each per day until the race distance increases say past 140 miles turn an ounce each and eventually as you get close 2 200miles an ounce and a quarter????

  • @desburke7786
    @desburke7786 2 года назад +1

    I'm very impressed with there trapping, they should actually trap faster on race day as they normally come one at a time or if you're lucky you will get a drop of 2 or 3 🕊️🙏🏼😁😁, and with that please God they won't do any laps of honour and waste precious time, wings right back until they come over you're house and tail and wings open 2 hit the breaks just b4 hitting the landing board😁😁.
    Is it 20 motor way miles up the A1 or 20 as the crow fly's ??

      @@howtotrainyourpigeon hi, glad 2 hear it, they deffo need it2 build up fitness levels and turn all that fat in2 pure muscle, I don't no when the last time you handled them all??, But handle them again before the first race day of basketing say, and see do you see and feel a difference in weight and muscle tone around the keel bone and feather quality also, and I'm curious do you plan on increasing training distance between now and the first race??, And if so 2 what milage ??

      @@desburke7786 I'm aiming to. I don't want to give too much away in the comments as the videos are a bit behind real tkmw and most of it will be in the next one. Re feeding I'm following a feeding plan I was given earlier in the season and it seems to be working well now, although we'll see when the races start 🤞

      @@howtotrainyourpigeon ahh I understand, try get you're next video out soon as you can do, as I'm sure the rest of the lads are that have followed you along and commented with tips ETC, we are very keen 2 see you're progress with the birds, what I've told you RE: feeding ETC has worked 4 me when I was racing up till 10 years ago, and only racing 25 and finishing the season with 8 after 12 races , and that was racing at the time 1 of Dublin's toughest clubs with a weekly bird average of anything from 800-1200 and 12k in the fed, lads in my club sent 120 100 80 some 50, and some weeks I had 3 in the top 10 with my small team, and lads in d club said I wasn't winning because I had such a small team and if I had have had 50 average like most I would have won a few races , but I was restricted 4 room racing from my mams back garden with an 16 foot loft and she wouldn't let me build another section or 2, so moral of the story I no what I say works against the best, so we will see how you're feeding system works but you also have 2 allow 4 quality of pigeon also, I'm really looking 4eard 2 you racing and the results but as I always say just enjoy it and learn every week, and another ting I'm looking forward to is seen what you buy in Blackpool and the Doncaster show and off proven fanciers come January and what products you buy also, so is you're first race this Saturday coming??? 😁😁🤔

    Great trapping mate
    Question : I toss my birds they come but they dont want to trap right away. Do you toss them very hungry? Any advice

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon
      @howtotrainyourpigeon  2 года назад +1

      I'm no expert at all but a few things I tried:
      1. I used to catch them to basket them. Even putting darkness boards up to keep them calm while I did it. I found it stressful and did the birds. I think coaxing them into the crate by using it to feed them tidbits every now and then means they're not nervous about re-entering the loft when they get back.
      2. If they're not hungry, they won't be so keen to trap. I can tell if they wi trap alright when I try and coax them into the crate with tidbits. If they all rush in, they're hungry and will trap. If they don't rush in, I'll loft fly them first to build up an appetite.
      3. My cocks are just way better at trapping. Dunno why. So I split them so they're not distracted by the hens on the landing board.
      4. When I first started feeding them I shook a tin of seeds and whistled. They've learned that when I do that it means feed time, get in now.
      Hope that helps 👍
