The song "March of the Slavs" begins and ends. This is a cover of a song by Vladimir Vysotsky, who would have turned 85 years old, but unfortunately, this Soviet bard died in 1980 at the age of 42.

Прекрасные комментарии. Он не стал углубляться в смысл песни - и правильно сделал; зато нашёл достаточно превосходных эпитетов для голоса Дианы Анкудиновой. Этот голос - основная причина того, что мы слушаем данную песню, а для многих - вообще единственная. Диана Анкудинова и Брэндон Стоун записали очень хорошую песню; но к счастью, они не ограничились точной передачей смыслов - очень актуальных сегодня, а сделали впечатляющую работу и в отношении аранжировки, и в отношении вокальной партии. Это уже не вполне песня - получилось что-то похожее, скорее, на небольшую симфоническую поэму. Если бы кто-то подбирал хороший саундтрек к документальному фильму о войне - эта работа подошла бы идеально. Мне даже стало как будто неудобно перед Высоцким - но его версию я послушал всего пару раз, а сейчас бы слушать уже не стал. А вот эту новую версию слушаю - и буду, безусловно, слушать ещё. В ней есть этот прекрасный баланс между смыслами, музыкой, голосом и эмоциями, который умеет создавать Диана Анкудинова; в ней есть та целостность и гармония, которую мы ждём от настоящего искусства. В ней есть та неоспоримая, абсолютно убедительная сила, которая была во многих песнях Высоцкого. Эту особенную силу и убедительность придавал песням его невероятный голос, наполненный энергией и эмоциями. Если и исполнять эту песню сейчас, заново, наполняя её уже дополнительными, новыми смыслами - то исполнять нужно именно так, именно таким, из ряда вон выходящим, ни на какой другой не похожим, безошибочно узнаваемым голосом, - голосом, какой есть сейчас только у Дианы Анкудиновой...

Сколько не слушаю, ощущаю незримое присутствие Высоцкого, его гитары. И в то же время совершенно новое произведение слушать и вдумываться в каждое слово заставляет.

* Who was the songwriter?
Vladimir Vysotsky (1938-1980) was a Russian poet, actor and singer, inconvenient for the state but the people loved him. In his songs he sang about topics that officially did not exist in the Soviet Union: prostitution, crime, anti-Semitism. He is still known and popular today in Russia, where he is considered the greatest songwriter of the 20th century. He always played his songs on a 7-string guitar.
Vysotsky died in 1980. His funeral took place during the Moscow Olympics. The Soviet media did not mention his death. But the news spread like wildfire, and the funeral turned into the largest non-state demonstration Moscow had ever seen.
In a 2018 survey of the most important personalities in Russia of the 20th century, Vysotsky came in second behind Yuri Gagarin. The asteroid of the outer main belt (2374, Vladvysotskij) was named after him. (google helped)
