I actually dialed it back and took my 4090 back to microcenter when I found an open box strix 4080 for $1040. AFTER tax. A few reasons. I've spent the past 6 months having gone through a binning process of 4 different 4090''s and before I initially made the jump to a 4090 I had a Tuf 4080. I just couldn't make my mind up. No matter what I did I wasn't happy lol. I have a 4k 144hz monitor and a 1440p 240hz monitor both Tuf and ROG models. I am a heavy tweaker so I enjoyed the 4090 and being able to push it beyond 600w with speeds of 3.1ghz and being able to go +1800 on memory. I sit right near my PC and that bad boy got HOT. I also experimented with power limiting and undervolting. I had a sweet spot undervolt where it wouldn't draw anymore than 300w while being undervolted to 9.75v with the core boosting to 2640 and memory speeds at 11501mhz It was undoubtedly great I was constantly worried about a melting connector It was a little beyond my necessities. I am not a content creator. I do not do digital art. I just game. $1000 felt alot better than $1770 after tax. $1890 with the Suprim X I had. It made me feel bad about myself for spending so much money on it when I have a family to take care of! I felt selfish, idk why. Not saying anyone who owns a 4090 should feel that way. Everyone has different needs and wants. And people deserve to do things special for themselves. I just really can't feel much of a difference myself when I turn the OSD off. If I see it, I know it's there. But I play competitive AAA games in 1440p primarily. I can pretty much get the 4080 to catch up to a stock 4090 in 1440p give or take behind by 8-10%. Which doesn't matter when you're in the range of 200fps anyways. At least to me. Personally I don't feel or see a difference after 160hz. I enjoy the extreme efficiency and quiet and cool running 4080. 4090 did that as well, just not quite like this card. If you don't power limit or undervolt, that thing can draw some real power! I love both cards. But i'm ok with the 4080 regardless of what media says. If you an find a great deal, definitely go for it. You'll still have the 2nd fastest GPU on the market along with the most efficient. No bash on XTX owners. I've owned one of those as well. Just speaking from experience. Definitely don't overpay for OC models because that's a complete scam and no company bins their chips. Unless it's the HOF series and I believe Zotac bins the Extreme Airo. Or so they say. OC models are just a bios flash. Anything over $1200, not worth it. 1200 is still overpriced, 1000 is the sweet spot. So unless you can find a great deal or HAVE to go Nvidia because you're a creator and streamer or something then i'd say go AMD if you can't find a good deal. Actually who am I kidding, NEVER go AMDip, lmao! no shade. I'm just joking
Wow! That’s a very thoughtful response. I feel there are many people who are on this fence. 4080 vs 4090 it’s obviously the price. Yet we try and justify an inflated price. We know right now the 4090 is the bees knees and crushes everything more than less. But , that extra $300/500 difference is a big check to spend. I feel just as you were saying, the 4080 is efficient all across the board. Plus , those extra perks that Nvidia gets , such AMD’s open source software. Meaning Nvidia get stuff like SAM and FSR 3 ( Thank you AMD for that ), plus DLSS 3.5. 4080 for the win!
Thanks! I actually traded that Strix 4080 back up for a Gigabyte Gaming 4090 OC sealed. All I had to do was give the dude a 13600kf and a few phanteks d30 fans and I got both of those components free at auction so I basically ended up scoring a 4090 for $1014. The dude was a huge strix fan and it obviously was top tier silicon hitting top 5 in port royale with a 13900k. The 4080 was absolutely great. There is no bad GPU, just bad prices! So I am back in the 4090 club LOL. I moved to strictly 4k so I felt the move back up was needed. And I got it about $800 off. I have warranty on it too the guy gave me his receipt and gigabyte registered it for me. I am happy with that crazy journey I went on binning all those 4090s and moving down just to go back up. I don't think i'll be getting another GPU for quite awhile. Won't find a better deal then that lol.@@Jeremyspoptart
Just installed mine. Jesus, this card is a chonker. Fits in my case but not too much clearance left. Seeing games like ac odyssey run at 4k ultra feels unreal. I completed that game on a GTX 1050 Ti with a 30fps lock. Tomorrow I'm going to experiment with frame gen
Is frame gen worth it? I am between RTX 4080 and amd's 7900XTX. I am aiming 100% for 4K Ray Tracing quality and if Frame Generation truly brings these 60fps on these settings my choice will be clear....
@@deimosok2003 Frame generation is pretty neat, but only in specific scenarios and setups. Most people probably will not enable it. If you have like me (and I think you do to) a 4k 60Hz monitor, forget about it. Frame gen is best enabled when the base framerate is already 50-60. Any lower and the additional inpug lag will be a deal breaker to most. Therefore I'd say only people with high refresh rate panels and who are chasing these frames will have a use for it. Also, DLSS 3 doesn't really have Vsync support at the moment. For me frame pacing consistency is a huge priority, so I will always enable it in the Nvidia control panel. To make a long story short: on a high refresh rate monitor with G-sync or Freesync it could be worth it in my opinion. So, you decide. I'ts a nifty feature that can also drastically lower the CPU bottleneck if there is one. But it's not the magic setting that will always perfectly work, like nvidia hinted at
@@Eburon I have a 4k 144hz Dell monitor 31.5 with GSync I lack the gpu to truly reach smooth fps on this resolution...I currently have an old i7 7700k paired with 1080ti. I know the bottleneck is huge and I prefer to go for gpu first because I wont have to change motherboard, ram, cooler etc.
@@Eburon In the future I will make the upgrade to i9 13900k and change the rest accordingly but for now situation's pretty tight...Nvidia should drop the prices before this gen is forgotten like the 2000s and sadly the 3000s these days...
@@Eburon I didnt go for a 2000 or 3000 card because all these years I was waiting for that dreamy smooth 4k experience...Seeing these 4k ultra blah blah benchmarks with rt on psycho +FG giving 70+ fps on this gen..I realized its time to upgrade from my old trusty 1080ti
Im planning on getting a RTX 4080 + Ryzen 7 5800x 3D next week. Some people have been telling me that it might bottleneck, but is that I cannot go for a more expensive CPU, that will be out of my budget and will make me downgrade the 4080, which I think that downgrading a GPU does not make much sense. What are your personal thoughts after all these testings? Edit: I will be playing most of the single player games in 4K @60, and most of the multiplayer games in 1440p high refresh rate
if u are going for 4080 and 4090 u wont play below 2k for sure so this CPU is fine for that , if u r gonna play competitive titles on 1080p monitor with them they will have same performance as with any lower Price GPU thats why people warn because the GPU will be at 60% utilization all the time and u would be better off with 4070 and 407ti . THIS CPU is the best (considering u are on AM4 like me)
Ive got a ryzen 5800x3d and the 4080 woth 32gb of ram and can say its a phenomenal gaming experience, currently in the process of building an am5 system to upgrade to the ryzen 7 7800x3d Edit: I appreciate all the work you did to put out this video! It's ultimately why I went with the 4080 :)

2 things I would love to see if potentially testing DLSS at 4K performance mode and testing with optimized settings versus Ultra. Like how much FPS can you get back if you do these things vs. Ultra Max Settings.
Me personally I really want the 4080 for 4k gaming and the power consumption and temp are just fantastic but im not a fan of the price it really kills it for me.
I'm getting a 4080 super for my first pc when it comes out, thanks a lot, this was super informative. I have one question: I plan to use the pc for work as well as for gaming. I do coding, data analysis with python, and R and some specific programs, and in my spare time I draw with clip studio paint as well, so I was planning to get the intel i7 13700k instead of the amd counterpat, because it would be better for work. Will it bottleneck the gpu? I would prefer to not have to go for an i9 because I don't like the idea of an AIO and those run hot and gobble up so much power
I love my 4080. It's been awesome paired with my 7950x. I prefer higher frames though so I didnt get the 4080 to play at 4k, I got it to play at 3440x1440 highest settings. Its been awesome and every game that I play performs exceptionally well at 3440x1440 with a 4080. In the future I would like to get a 4090 to run games at 3840×2160. Might do that in a year or so. We'll see.
I got my 4080 a couple days ago. I'm stuck on 1080p till I get my 1440p 240hz monitor but im SO STOKED. It's a 1440p beast! Plus between you and me.... 4K is overrated. Just mod the shit out of singleplayer games and 1440p will look just like 4K. Plus I get headaches playing 4k on my ps5, it's too much. I love the card tho bro. I think I will keep it until the 50 series comes out. I saved my $500 not buying the 4090 and spent it on my new monitor.
I have a 5950X and am playing 1440p which is optimal for my AM4 socket, which would strug a bit on 4K. Your AM5 socket chip will never hold your 4080 back tho. You can always upscale to 4K and play at that res, it looks near the same as a native 4K monitor anways. Happy gaming bro :)
@@Slushkin It’s complicated, my 2nd gaming monitor I bought was a 4K 60fps and my newer main monitor is a 1440p 165hz monitor. It’s one of those things you have to experience for yourself, games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Red dead redemption 2 have life like graphics.
Witcher is hell of a game. Played on high settings on Rx 570, there were dips to 30fps. With this card, im sure it like 100+. But, with ray tracing, that games looks even better, but, as result, it does dip 30fps just like my card lol.
Just got my 4080 aero to pair with my 144hz 4k monitor. This card is amazing bro. Man, once 5080 releases I will need to upgrade my 4k monitor to 240hz for sure. 🎉
i run at 1440p on an LG C1, dlss quality, fg, rr, 2r4b (2r2b is vanilla), HalkHogan's HD rework mod, high-res npc's (all, including named/unnamed and spawners) + all required nudie mods, of course!... avg 100fps with dips to 80 in the usual greasy areas....breathtaking, to say the least...(4080 + 13900k)
@Rute Fernandes You dont even need frame generation with a 4080, with dlss 2.0 is more than enough for raytracing on Hogwarts or Cyberpunk. Even without dlss you can play those games at 4k without raytracing, and that would be still considered a 4K gaming experience (Always talking about playing above 60fps).
Thank you so much for these long benchmarks bro. Really appreciate it ❤❤ You definitely earned a sub 😉 P.S I can't wait to see RTX 4080 TI benchmarks when the gpu will release 😎 Keep up the good work 👍
Unless the 4080ti is similar price to the 4080 ($50 - $100 difference) and has increased performance by like 5 - 10% it would be a solid card. I'm expecting 4090 level performance (obviously not as good) without the extra VRAM. I already have a 4080 so I wouldn't need it, but it would be enticing for people building a new system.
@@bazo8275 i was trying to decide if i wanted to 4K game or not, i actually just went with getting a 1440p 240hz monitor for competitive games, and then decided through modding singleplayer it would look good anyways without 4k
@@bazo8275 Its decent, Problem is the 4080 only gets 20-35 or so fps more then the 4070 Ti, Imo not worth the 400$ even with its 4GB of ram. Thats not alot of fps gains People wont tell you that but ive seen ALOT of benchmarks and they all sit the same avg between cards The gap should of been wider between the 4070 Ti and 4080 by far
Bro I watched your old video I just want to know what are the settings and game recorder you are using my got laged but I have gt730 can you give me full thing about it 😶
@@thetempter9023 ah okay makes sense, tbh I haven't had to do that and mine never goes above 60°c however I don't overclock mine plus mine is a zotac one so I am lucky that it doesn't go over 60 lmao
So you cannot play Witcher 1440p ulta on 4080. Edit: low fps reasons. 1- ddr4 16gb is kinda bottlenecked for some of the games. 2- there is 5 to 25 fps difference in fps on different resolutions as compare to 32gb ddr4 3600mhz vs 32gb ddr5 5600mhz. 3- old motherboard chipset 4- 5800x3D is good but still needs bios updates & fixes because it struggles to differentiate between 3d vs non 3d core tasks.
4k resolution is not a multiple of 1440p resolution, so if you play in full screen, it will look worse than on a native 1440p screen, but you can put 4 native 1080p in your 4k display.
If you play 1440p on a 4K 27 inch monitor it look good, because you have elevate PPI (pixel per inch). If you play 1440p on a 4K 32 inch monitor, it look not bad, but blurry.
if u have a 4K display and u can’t afford 4K gaming system then buy a system that is really fast at 1440p and use dlss quality at 4K dlss quality at 4K renders the game at 1440p internally and up scales to 4K using ai so u won’t have those weird scaling issues demanding games will have dlss support
i just purchased the rtx 4080 along with the ryzen 9 7950x. 1000w PSU and everything else up to date, but ive noticed my 1% is lackin causing peformance issues. Is there any optimizing videos or tips someone can give me to help me out.
Capping frame rate can really help with the 1% and 0.1% lows. try that if you havent already. if that doesnt work maybe increase power limit in MSI Afterburner
Don't max out you credit cards to buy stuff you can't afford is my help to you. You barely can type sentences so I highly doubt you make much money at whatever low level job you have.
Waaat😮😮😮 RTX 4080 not able to get 60 FPS in the Witcher 3, is the witcher badly optimised this is really strange.. infact when you scale the resolution to 4k the FPS dropped to 25-32. I think it's better to have 4090

@@GAMINGBENCH how do you maintain 61 temperature on 4k graphics?
I had a sweet spot undervolt where it wouldn't draw anymore than 300w while being undervolted to 9.75v with the core boosting to 2640 and memory speeds at 11501mhz
It was undoubtedly great
I was constantly worried about a melting connector
It was a little beyond my necessities.
Meaning Nvidia get stuff like
SAM and FSR 3 ( Thank you AMD for that ), plus DLSS 3.5. 4080 for the win!

Yes, this pair can complete your requirements.
No need to downgrade 4080
It can even handle 4090
@@GAMINGBENCH Thanks for your answer bro!
if u are going for 4080 and 4090 u wont play below 2k for sure so this CPU is fine for that , if u r gonna play competitive titles on 1080p monitor with them they will have same performance as with any lower Price GPU thats why people warn because the GPU will be at 60% utilization all the time and u would be better off with 4070 and 407ti .
I would prefer to not have to go for an i9 because I don't like the idea of an AIO and those run hot and gobble up so much power
nah that i7 suit nicely, ull be good
Damn, Witcher III upgrade with Ray Tracing is demanding as hell.

Unless the 4080ti is similar price to the 4080 ($50 - $100 difference) and has increased performance by like 5 - 10% it would be a solid card. 2- there is 5 to 25 fps difference in fps on different resolutions as compare to 32gb ddr4 3600mhz vs 32gb ddr5 5600mhz.

Hi, does 1440p look good or really bad in your opinion on 4k panel?
4k resolution is not a multiple of 1440p resolution, so if you play in full screen, it will look worse than on a native 1440p screen, but you can put 4 native 1080p in your 4k display.
If you play 1440p on a 4K 27 inch monitor it look good, because you have elevate PPI (pixel per inch).
If you play 1440p on a 4K 32 inch monitor, it look not bad, but blurry.
