This song was something I wanted to do for sometime now. It's kind of a tribute to my home country, not because what we are today ( yes everyone hear in the news that Portugal is in a financial crysis ,etc) but a tribute to what we were during the 15 and 16th Centuries. If you study history or are interested in the theme you might know about the Portuguese maritime discoveries that begun around 1419. ~
To make it short and quoting from internet :
"Portuguese sailors were at the vanguard of European overseas exploration, discovering and mapping the coasts of Africa, Asia and Brazil, in what become known as the Age of Discovery."
We are still a great country despite what you hear in the news. We are not only good at football (soccer) . We have plenty of other great things here.
I thought about taking the rating system off because I am pretty sure I will be spammed with dislikes, because some people are not as much patriotic, but I really don't care. In my personal opinion the song is decent thats why I upload it and that's what matters. If you dislike Portugal for some reason, just listen the song and do something else.
Please dont ask me to translate the text in the picture.
It's in portuguse and it was taken from an Epic portuguese book called "Os Luisíadas" ( If you are interested in literature you probably already heard about it). It's really complex to translate.

@@JanetStarChild, "Iberia" does not exist. To start with Iberians inhabited only the eastern part of the peninsula. They were not european and never existed in what is now Portugal.
Secondly "Moors" are a group of 5 major ethnic groups, of which the vast majority were the "Mouriscos" which were nothing more than native people converted to islamism. The other groups were the Arabs, the Berbers, the Jews and the Sqaliba (eastern european slaves).
So, stop speaking about the peninsula as if we are the same. We are not and we never were.

É admirável a coragem desse povo que cruzou o oceano Atlântico em barcos feitos de madeira e tiveram a estratégia de mudar a capital do império para o outro lado do oceano, simplesmente para não ceder o trono. Odeio quando falam mal de Portugal, das raízes ibérias e da civilização ocidental. Muito respeito com essa raiz.

@@oreidaazenha23 A verdade é que os brasileiros começaram a estudar seu passado sem viés doutrinário do Estado. Os imigrantes alemães e italianos que chegaram aqui a partir de 1824 e 1856, respectivamente, se orgulham de seu passado Europeu, nunca esquecendo de suas raízes. Os luso-brasileiros com já estão aqui muito antes disso haviam esquecido suas raízes. Porém existe uma onde por busca de seus antepassados (pelo menos eu sou um) onde se fazem pesquisas genealógicas e muitos acabam por findar em Portugal ou Açores (Portugal) suas pesquisas. Daí está ressurgindo este sentimento de pertencimento a uma raiz europeia tal como os imigrantes, os colonos. Sim somos descendentes de colonos portugueses. Pelos meus estudos eu descendo de açorianos e paulistas, este últimos são portugueses com alguma miscigenação indígena. De 1500 a 1550, poucos foram os avanços portuguesas no Brasil; de 1550 a 1640, se aproveitou da União Ibérica e mais que triplicaram as áreas e extensão de fronteira dos domínios portuguesas por aqui; de 1640 a 1750, começaram a vir mais e mais levas de portugueses para não perderem essas terras para a França ou Holanda e até mesmo Espanha; a partir de 1750 até 1850, vieram muitas e muitas famílias, diferentemente do que vinha acontecendo antes, quando vieram mais homens, guerreiros e aventureiros (solteiros que casaram com índias cristianizadas); a partir de 1824 começaram a vir todo mundo...
Señor Bruno, disculpe si no le hablo en portugués porque no lo sé, pero si sé reconocer una obra maestra como "Lusitanus", pues es una composición maravillosa que me ha hecho sentir mucho respeto por los que un tiempo se lanzaron a lo desconocido y alcanzaron la gloria y el reconocimiento de su nación engrandeciendo con orgullo la historia que magistralmente nos cuentas con tus notas, y así con ellas se siente que es un homenaje póstumo a esas almas que perpetuaron su nombre a través de los siglos y eso te hace grande, pues hoy usted con su bella obra, transporta mi imaginación a esa fascinante época inspirándome con mucha facilidad fantasías cargadas de escenas y eventos de cómo pudo haberse desarrollado las vidas de los tripulantes lusitanus a bordo de las Carabelas en las historias contadas por Luís Vaz de Camões en su obra Os Lusíadas en la antigüedad, y que gracias a su música se vuelve a hablar de este singular poeta. Finalmente gracias por su regalo maravilloso, rindo tributo a su patria, a su talento, su sensibilidad y pido a Dios que le dé larga vida a usted y a su familia, y porque su genialidad nos siga dando más obras que disfrutar; y si dentro de 300 años se llega a hablar de mí, fue porque me atreví escribirle estas palabras para hacerle saber que admiro con elevados respetos el trabajo de sus composiciones.

I am Portuguese and this really warmed my heart. Despite everything, I am really proud to be Portuguese and I'll always hold my country close to my heart, no matter how shitty the society or the economy ends because the cultures, the landscapes, the people, they are what makes a country, and ours is very rich in those parameters.

Portugal no início teve muito apoio da Inglaterra pois não lhe interessava que Portugal e Espanha unissem o império num só. Na corte soltavam as más línguas para que casamentos entre Portugal e Espanha não fossem muito bem sucedids.Por essa e outras razões os ingleses construiram o maior império.
@@paxas03 construiram porque quando estavam fracos, tinham uma ilha para os proteger, se portugal fosse uma ilha, quando D. sebastiao morreu nao teriamos sido anexados, Os Britanicos estavam num estado deplorável no inicio da expansao portuguesa , mas tinham uma ilha que lhes safava de invasões, nos? tinhamos uma fronteira enorme com um país 5x maior com mais poder militar pois tinham mais mao de obra, e mesmo assim nunca desistimos ficamos pouco mais de 50 anos sob seu controlo.
