It's August 14, 2024, and I'm still watching this Historical Drama every day. There are tremendous lessons about family, leadership and humility. The director and producer, I commend them for a job well done!! Award winning history drama about the Ming Dynasty. The composer who created the music is outstanding. I love the music very much. The research that was given to the History drama is amazing. Every actor and actress did a phenomenal job! Award winning. This drama will last forever. The costume designs and sets absolutely award winning! This History Drama has helped me in my life get through some dark days. I would love to meet the entire staff for this great work. My favorite in the drama would have to be Emperor Zhu Zhanji(Grandson). Everyone went through a whole lot, but he suffered a lot. It's hard to be in a family where family is plotting to kill you. It's hard to be in a family that hates you. It's hard to be in family where doing right is questioned. Those were challenging times. I learned that the Cold Palace is a state of mind first then a physical place. There was a lot of cold palaces in this drama. Again, to the director, produce, composer and research and costume design, thank you so much for all of your sacrifices and work to make this drama a reality. It was very well written. What are the tremendous lessons in this drama for humanity?? We must do better. The world is hurting!!
What compassion Sun Ruowei shows her little sister after all that she had put her through and what a perfectly beautifully acted death scene. Quite outstanding acting.
Great script with no silly fillers. The series production is magnificent, and excellently executed! . Story line is logical. The poems read, soliloquies of inner thoughts, moral struggles of the scholar warriors including the great empress dowager Sun Rouwei are touching. , Qu Bin who managed to live long, survives to give her the greatest love and spiritual support represents the highest cultivation of Chibese traditional culture of the superior man! Same with Yu Qian. And Sun Rouwei is a superior woman. I admire the series film makers… Chinese historical cinema at its best!
I can empathize with the newly ascended young emperor how sad he must feel - so alone and abandoned by Xu Bin and his mother. Indeed, Yu Qian and his mother didn’t come to rescue him when his Oirat wife was taken and killed. And now, they are all leaving him just because he had YuQian killed! He is alone high up on the throne just like when he was captured by the Oirats all alone except for the oirat princess who protected him. And she is gone too. Sad ending for him!

This was realistic. People are sad but that’s how history goes. In my opinion what the emperor did was right. During times chaotic like that you must be ruthless. Your ancestors can be benevolent however if you take up the position of an emperor during the times he was in then your only option was to be ruthless or get killed.
What a wonderful series. Excellently made, I've enjoyed every minute of it. Truly binge watchting. So sad it has ended, but what an ending! Congatulations to the makers and actors!!! Respect!!
I thought the same thing but I was mistaken. I only became aware of my wrong understanding after watching the drama in full for a third time. If you warch closely all the efforts tgat Ruo Wei as the head of the empire made to bring back and rescue an EMPEROR from the nomads enemy and avoiding with all that the falling of an empire then You understand that Ruo Wei politics were truly sucessful and unique.
This is so dramatic - I was crying all way long. The most impressive in these series is that dignity in people's hearts: they are strong, they are proud, they are respective to their ancestors, theay care about their country, they believe in their duties and honestly carry these duties, they are ready to sacrifoce their lives for their ideals ... so many more things that are absent today.....

I was surprised by how accurate it was, many things I thought they will change for this drama but they kept it to real history, like Yu Qian's execution for example.

Just so excellent and moving. An epic journey, historical drama at its best. A story with love and duty at its core and showing the bigger the material prize the greater its power to corrupt, and then it can turn to dust anyway! An intelligent use of the past, and much of it actual history, to comment on and warn regarding the present. Some brilliant shots with an inspired use of the trains of the women's dresses to portray sinister power and even despair, great film-making with wonderful acting. A real credit to all involved.

The only person Ruowei really had true compassion and patience for was her sociopathic sister at the end of the day. Everyone else never got her unconditional love or loyalty. Never fully siding with her husband, cutting off her son for killing someone that murdered his wife and would eventually do the same to his son and him. Even with all her tears, she is a cold woman. All of the pain and troubles she invited on her husband and son because of continually being loyal to a sister that only really existed in her mind.
I mean her son kinda betrayed everything she stood for. She saw him as basically the person (his great grandad) who killed her family and ruined her life. This stacks on what she saw throughout the three generations killing each other and killing the most loyal officals for power. This add on how the grandad and dad wished to kill her just because they are scared of her becoming an emperor really broke her will to live. Less of giving up on her son and more shes giving up on the whole family itself. Her sisters represent a past of a nice childhood and also the fact that she felt like shes indebted to her for not able to rescue her in both the day that they got stranded as well as when she started to turn "evil".

If I have learn something in my life is that the love of a sister is unlimited. I was crying so hard but understanding too, this was realistic and beautiful in it's sadness.
I have no words. This series is much better than what the countries of the "west" produce. This whole series is amazing and shows the approximate history of the Ming dynasty beautifully. Thank you for uploading all the parts with the translation, I will never forget this.

This story really got me reading the Ming Dynasties rise and fall. It was very accurate on most accounts and did well at maintaining an appealing and interesting story, it would have been nicer if they included the accession off Zhu Qizhen again as the Tianshun Emperor, Overall, I really love it a lot though its length at 62 episodes can really get you, but if you think of the length of time the Ming spanned you'll soon understand its worth it. :)
Thank you for this historical drama. Indeed, one of the best I have watched. I love medieval time stories. The 1 - 40s episodes were more I like due to Yawen and other men's characters. It was the first time I cried watching men crying all together - when the grandfather asked for a promise from his children to not to kill each other for power and also the character of Xu Qian - amazing! Some of the funny parts were really indeed funny! The culture, background music, clothing, etiquite and acting were really convincing. I have watched others such Ruyis love for the palace and Li weiyoung - but this is the most caught me off guard! Specially when the grandfather died and visited the crown prince through a dream. He woke up and search for him - reminded me to myself, the same when I was looking for my father but he was dead lying onto the ground. So double thumbs up!👍👍
This took me ages to finally finish due to exams but it’s been a big rollercoaster of emotion. I’m so happy the 2 sisters made up and both the actors were really good
What a good empress dowager and sister. Man yin is very lucky despite all the hurt man yin caused her, she is still so loving and generous. The emperor has become a psycho!

He would be redder than that book of rules he wrote if he knew what China was like now.
That was quite a long drama, but well worth watching...because it reminds me of the mortality of life. Each one of us will experience death at one stage of our life. The sad part is, we tend to forget about that when we are heathy or when we sweat over tiny things in life. We should try to make the most out of this life-time we have and start to live our life without regrets.

Loved the series. A bit confused by the ending. Could be translation. The couple on the boat are young again. The boat is empty of other people. They are sailing off to another world? And the 2 sets of stacked boxes look strangely like coffins on top. Just saying would really like to know the meaning of the last scene.
After watching the series for the second time, I agree with critics that Tang Wei's performance was far from ideal, and that the story turns boring just about Zhu Yawen's passing. Surely if and when I visit the tombs outside Beijing again, I have a little more understanding.

Excellent acting, shows royalty is not rosy as people think. So much protocol and hangers on to cloud impressionable minds. one has to be strong and bold in right and wrong to create an utopian society for all
So much cognitive dissonance... makes no sense. He never learned anything about being emperor (what education he had, he ignored as a youth) and because of his negligence on expedition millions died. Ruwei saves and runs the empire, her son, and when Zhu Qi comes back he doesn't seek her advice, and kills the hero of their generation Yu Qian. The writers are saying he was a bad emperor. HIstory says Jingtai came back, and with a crown prince son. I think the Ming empire went downhill from there.
Best asian drama of the year and it's only February. Hard to get any better than this.🎉

Zhu Yawen was the drama. He is such a great actor, and the entire story was developed around him. Once he died; so did the story.

I loved the end in their next lives or perfection of their devotion.

Yu Qian's cemetery is beside the West Lake, accompanied by two other heroes Yue Fei and Zhang Huangyan. He should not be alone

@@excusemylagg2019 I only recently learned that during the Cultural Revolution, the graveyards of these three heroes were severely damaged, and their bodies were also insulted and burned. The current graves were built later.

He would be redder than that book of rules he wrote if he knew what China was like now.

That was quite a long drama, but well worth watching...because it reminds me of the mortality of life. Each one of us will experience death at one stage of our life. The sad part is, we tend to forget about that when we are heathy or when we sweat over tiny things in life. We should try to make the most out of this life-time we have and start to live our life without regrets.
Well written script, whether historically true or not; excellent drama.

Loved the series. A bit confused by the ending. Could be translation. The couple on the boat are young again. The boat is empty of other people. They are sailing off to another world? And the 2 sets of stacked boxes look strangely like coffins on top. Just saying would really like to know the meaning of the last scene.
I love the music.
After watching the series for the second time, I agree with critics that Tang Wei's performance was far from ideal, and that the story turns boring just about Zhu Yawen's passing. Surely if and when I visit the tombs outside Beijing again, I have a little more understanding.

So much cognitive dissonance... makes no sense. He never learned anything about being emperor (what education he had, he ignored as a youth) and because of his negligence on expedition millions died.
Ruwei saves and runs the empire, her son, and when Zhu Qi comes back he doesn't seek her advice, and kills the hero of their generation Yu Qian.
The writers are saying he was a bad emperor. HIstory says Jingtai came back, and with a crown prince son.
I think the Ming empire went downhill from there.
