It's weird growing up w a band bc you end up with albums that are complete time capsules of certain eras of your life. Like their first album screams "cliche teenage summer" to me and it takes me right back that place, then young blood came when I was going through the end of my first serious relationship like... they have managed to grow with their fans, intuitively, which is such an interesting thing to watch as a bystander and as a fan it's that "omg how did you know i needed to hear this right now?!"

I truly appreciate their honest approach as to why they aren’t really into Don’t Stop, I think what Ashton described is totally right and I can now see why they talk about it that way (not hating it but still roasting it lol). That being said, while I really love their recent music and totally fits their vibe, I still love Don’t Stop. It is what it is😌✋🏽✨

I was listening to their debut album the other day after a looooong time. Holds up pretty well. It encapsulates a lot of being a teenager in love, from perspectives that were respectful towards women and different than what previous bands were doing - like, who the hell other than them would’ve sung about waiting to be an adult to hook up with someone older? Even if the scenario raises questions of its own, it’s just… very unique, and I am glad they had this experience of writing their own material, from their perspective, because they really push themselves to evolve and that is reflected on their albums - which get maturer each time. With that being said, it is no surprise that they do not emotionally connect with don’t stop (and likely most of it) anymore, as the lyrics are too juvenile for married adults to be singing in a more “serious” scenario, and they take themselves very seriously as musicians. I also think the fact they started very young + being foreigners + having an audience of women means they went through certain prejudices in the process, and being “embarrassed” of songs like don’t stop is a consequence of that/them trying to “embrace” these people so they can finally see what the band is all about NOW.
I’ve been a fan since their debut and I am really looking forward to the new album!

Lyrical content! No afence, I'm a 5sos fan but the old lyrics... extremely embarrassing. You guys can't blame them for not wanting to sing those lyrics. Most of their songs were good, it's just the lyrics. They are just like me reading my old writing... can't stand it! It worse for them because they are constantly reminded of it all the time.
AGREED!! As someone who has been a fan since 2011, when i listen to their old music i try to tune out the lyrics to some songs. If you listen to their discography in order, you can really hear the improvement in songwriting.
@@Melissa-vf2zc I've only been a fan for about 3-4 years but I feel like I understand them. It doesn't mean they're bad artists because their lyrics were bad, they were just young. Anyways, I absolutely love their newer stuff and can't wait to see what they have done now. I really love that they are constantly improving, it helps us see that they are just people... like the rest of us.

I know it's a little contradictory but early 5SOS music is GOLD. And i absolutely love it. 5sos have no skips whatsoever. The way I see it and the reason why I said it like that is because I grew up with them in a way so I also understand why they would find that stuff cringy because some of their early lyrics are a little cringy. I used to eat that shit up when i was 8, now i listen to it and can be like "that's a little cringy" but still completely jam out, you know what I mean?
