The mountain next to the lake becoming angry and throwing a big piece onto the people fighting?
      The lake being dangerous?
Sounds to me like a volcano.
And geologists assume that about 8000 years ago a big landslide happened that formed the lake. Considering that by current estimates the area was first populated about 16 000 years ago, that sounds like the natives kept the report of that event in memory. Old tales and legends often have a historic core.

I grew up in Western Washington and went camping here with school and with family as a kid. I didn't learn these stories until I was a little older, but the lake always had an eery feeling to it. It is so beautiful there, but something is off. It made more sense when I started learning more of what happened there. You had details I didn't know about and told the stories so well, as always.

Stay at one of the stand alone cabins for ambience or in the main house for ghosties. Go to Oak Table in Sequim on your way there or back for brunch and have a German Apple Pancake. There's usually a wait and toi can get it to go although the Pancake will deflate but, still 3 meals worth of yum.

I’m originally from WA (Tacoma) and one year for my Marine Biology class we took a trip up to the Olympic Peninsula. We took a little boat ride on the lake and a local told us briefly about The Lady of The Lake.. it piqued my interest for a while but then I never really thought of it again. Thank you for covering this case! It was so cool to hear about it in depth! Just subscribed!

I used to go to girl scout camp at camp David Jr on crescent lake for years and it's got an eerie vibe especially in the mornings. The camp used to be a rehabilitation center and was a place of healing. They had a fountain around the camp of a lady of healing and a mother with a child. The lady of healing statue was stolen and supposedly was dropped in the middle of the lake and it the lake had been cursed ever since.. This story is strange how the lady had a glossy porcelain texture....

If you want an oldie, my mother told us a story about when she was in grade school in Sherwood Oregon. She was walking home when this couple stopped and offered her a ride. She said no, but the couple came back 2 more times until she ran to a nearby house and said it was hers. It wasn't but according to her the ruse worked. But, she would always tell us at the end that shows you can't even trust a couple (man and woman) to give you a ride. I think there is much more to the story. However I could never get it out of her. This would have happened in the late 1930s or sometime in the 1940s. Is it possible to find out more and how would a person find out?

So I wonder, were there children missing during that time?

A guy was found in a lake I live by, years back..15-20 years I’d say. The body was hooked by anglers unintentionally and brought to the surface.
He was chalk white, the corner said in the paper. Turned out to be an African American male that had went missing while fishing several years before the body was found.
They determined he had drown and his body floated up under a limestone shelf in the lake. Therefore making his skin turn chalk white.

It was beautiful, and we had a very nice room but I remember there was a heavy, creepy feeling about it that I just couldn't shake even at that young age. Of course I knew nothing about any of this that had happened and I have no idea if my parents did either. But I can remember being vaguely uncomfortable there and through my whole life I have had strange dreams from time to time that take place there, at this place I visited once forty-five years ago

I'm not done watching the story yet, but I feel that I need to jump in and say something about Eleanor. She knew what Monty had done to his wife, she wouldn't know that she Could marry him otherwise. She had also, most likely, been in previous abusive relationships prior to getting together with Monty. Unfortunately, that is how the vicious circle of abuse works. I have decades of experience in the area of abuse and it is a very difficult cycle to break.

The advanced decomp of the face probably means that she was beaten badly there. Now look at his face. Is that the face of a man who could beat a young woman so badly that her face decayed while the cold preserved the rest of her immaculately? Sure it does. And his mother's kiss might still have been given even if she knew full well what her precious boy had done...three quarters of the cold blooded thugs who killed women they claimed to love had loving mothers. And the moms were probably the first ones to make their sons feel that their needs and desires came before all other things. A woman has a particular responsibility when it comes to raising her son and in teaching him how to treat women...unfortunately, too many leave that part of a son's upbringing to their husband or to chance.

Poor Halle. He abused her, killed her and besmirched her name. Stunning looking woman, bless her. Eleanor was quite naive but people were more trusting back then. People also largely accepted domestic violence, it was seen as par for the course, it was almost never discussed, let alone reported and police didn't encourage prosecutions.

I’m a soap maker - soap is made from the combination of any fat / oil (lard, coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil) and a strong base (usually lye - sodium hydroxide - or caustic soda - potassium hydroxide). When we make soap we usually combine oils to get the best mix of effects (lots of bubbles, moisturizing, cleansing, creaminess, etc.). Most of the time the human body is broken down by bacteria and insects - but if the body is in the right environment - salts in the soil or water surrounding the body will convert fat in the body to a waxy / soapy substance in the same way that we make soap.
As an aside, there were also reports during WWII that the Nazis made soap from the fat of concentration camp victims. Most people are surprised to find out you can make soap from ANY fat or oil, Even human fat.

I absolutely love it ❤️. Soap making is a hobby - but I love it too. It’s amazing to take a bottle of olive oil, some drain cleaner (lye), and essential oils - and be able to make a beautiful luxurious bar of soap.

I have to wonder if he and his future wife killed Hallie and she helped him with the body. It's hard to move an inert body by yourself. If he hadn't abused his new wife, it may be because she could tell on him. Who knows, but it's such a weird situation that it seems more than coincidence that he married Hallie's roommate's sister.

Manipulative men are really good at making themselves sound like the victim, plus back at that time abuse was seen as more of a personal matter between the couple. Like it wasn't anyones business but the close friends and family of the couple. Plus the general belief that men could discipline women with open hand, not closed fist. So you could slap your wife or spank her and that was just seen as par for the course for many couples. Closed fist was distasteful and reflected badly on the man (because he "lost control"), but it was also seen as interfering in a marriage to counsel her to leave. So sad.

True Jenny. Also I would add, drinking is often a cover, not a cause. It is along the lines of "see what you made me do". I suspect it releases their inhibitions to do what they want to do (ie abuse). I generally cringe when "his heavy drinking..." is mentioned in such cases, because everyone's go-to is "the drink made him do it".
I wonder how the second wife fared. Leopards really do not change their spots.
