Actually, I gave away my Miyoo Mini Plus and RG35XX Plus replacing them with the Trimui Brick! Purchased three Trimui Bricks the white, black and red one. Giving the black to my brother as a birthday gift, keeping the white and red ones.
@@jonathonearl482 Nice! I've gifted two MM+ in the past, I honestly didn't find myself using small verticals much - but the screen on this one makes me want to use it (if only I had more hours in the day...).
I have a MM V1, MM V2 & MM+, because Onion OS is brilliant. I too prefer horizontal handhelds but no other CFW comes close, so far. I would like to try a Trimui but my Miyoos will most likely stay in my pocket.
I like that you went more in depth with the ergonomics than other reviewers. Overall I feel the loss of ergonomics is worth it because it becomes way more pocketable than devices with lips for the shoulders for example, but it's super valid to bring up that you have to hold it a specific way! edit: also the Brick should be able to use bluetooth pairing with headphones (if not right now then soon with CFW), so that's cool for it as a pocket handheld
I got mine on Wednesday and it's fantastic. The screen is insanely good for a $60 handheld this small. IMO it completely dethrones the MM+ in almost every way except for OS, but that's going to change eventually as more OS options become available.
Thanks for the heads up on the extra colors. I just thought they were sold out everywhere, but hearing that calms my nerves a bit. Really wanted that Purple one, I can wait though.
I previously bought the Trimui Smart Pro and the clock was wonky, it was hard to set the region, and it refused to stick to the time I set it (would keep auto-jumping ahead by 6h). And the clock would stop when i power off the device and only resume from where it left off when I power back on. Do you notice this issue with the Trimui Brick?
Hmmm....This one is very tempting. Currently, the 35xxh is my pocket-sized pick. I might have to pick this one up to compare. Congrats on getting a free sample though. It's rough out here for us smaller channels. lol
In MinUI, for older gen cores (GB, GBC, NES etc) you can set the performance to "powersave" it shouldn't matter for the emulation but you should be able to squeeze a bit more battery life (and maybe reduce heat?)
Thank you Derek. I appreciate the nit picking. I am personally blind when it comes to potential negatives. I love the smart and pro trimui products. So I just assume the brick is perfect. I'm still gonna buy it but having my expectations dumbed down a bit is a good thing.
@@Jay-gx1nh Just a heavy duty light stand with a boom arm, and a clamp attachment with a ball head attached to the arm. I have another more stable setup with a cross bar and two stands, but not enough space in my office to use it, ha!
I moved from the RGB30 to the Cube XX and my TrimUI Brick comes on Friday, looking forward to testing! Does MinUI support Portmaster and pico-8 Natively?
I believe the “extras” zip for minui includes pico-8. As far as postmaster I think it’s possible with add on paks developed by others but not by default on minui.
I was seriously considering getting one, but then rg34xx dropped and it's really hard to resist. I know they're not in the same category, but it's hard to justify getting both
If it's the same way they ship the Smart Pro, when you go into the game list, there should be a folder at the top with the full included rom set per system. The one's in the folder will be in alphabetical order. at the root level with the folder is a list of highlighted games in a numerical order they chose. At least that's the way it was on my TSP, but I couldn't really tell for sure because you entered in the middle of the list.
@@bassderek Yeah, still weird, but at least the big folders would be more useable for someone out-of-the-box. I just pulled their card and put in a new Sandisk with my own stuff on my TSP.
I’ve got a cheap handheld just to see if it was worth me even starting doing these devices. I find them a little small compared to my switch. Any recommendations on a bigger device?
Depends on your price range and what screen size you want. If you just want something a bit more ergonomic but still under $100, maybe take a look at the Anbernic Cube XX (4" display). At the $200 price point (and much more capable) there's the Retroid Pocket 5 (5.5" Display). But really there's tons out there.
What is the difference between “crisp” and “sharp” in minUI? Also is there a way to upscale ps1 games to 2X in MinUI since this handheld can handle that.
From the Developer: "The default Crisp will integer pre-scale to a second buffer before downsampling to screen dimensions with bilinear. Sharp is just a direct nearest neighbor scale to the screen dimensions. Much faster." So, in summary: Crisp probably potentially looks better but has a performance cost.
In regards to upscale, yes, in the emulator options menu there is the "Enhanced Resolution" option which does 2x. It didn't run at full speed when I first turned it on, so i turned on enhanced resolution speedhack and put the device in performance clock speed but it still wasn't perfect. Still needed some Frameskip. This is all with THPS2 so it may vary by game.
@@TheMysteryDriver you know like a phone, you can put it to sleep and then quickly wake it and keep playing? good devices all have sleep mode, miyoo and anbernic devices do not, which is why i don't use them
Loving my brick! Thanks for calling out the inclusion of modern copyrighted games on these SD cards. Anyone in this hobby should not stand for that. Buying these consoles without an SD card is the way to go. Not to mention the SD card quality sent with these devices is never good.
You and the many others, its ok to have ports! Because the seller that made that sd card for you, already paid for that game, so if you paid for something you can do whatever you want, because thats how it work, for legit sellers!!! Second best coverage of this device I've seen on this website, second only to Retro Gaming Corps. Good Job.

Appreciate the D-pad focused analysis, love hearing the details of how it feels
I concur.
The "feel" of the D-Pad is of prime importance.
I have several devices and the ones I sold on tended to have poor controls.
