I feel a sense of frustration, anger, pain behind the music. Like a constant knocking to finally achive something. The end goal so close yet so far, its right in front of you. Frustration taking over you try again in anger only to scratch the very bitter end of the board of what was the end in pain.
Now that you mention it and I listen to the track again, you're right! I too sense a taste of bittersweetness and disappointment in there. It's like... realizing all the good you had when it's far too late. You abandoned everything and everyone to reach what you wanted, and now that it stands before you you realize it's worth nothing because you left all the good in your life behind to get it. Someone who made themselves empty learning that the key to happiness was inside them.
I see what you both mean. Though I interpreted this song differently, imagine a figure representing the ultimate beacon of hope in a world of despair, you know that as long as that figure's there, you know wholeheartedly that you're safe and all is not lost, at least at the start.
I do see the unresolvable tension, but, it may just be because I'm in a different place in my life, but it does not necessarily come from a thing you cannot, or have failed to achieve. It can also come from something you cannot control. No matter how much you care about it, want it to succeed, or how much pain you will feel if it fails, the only thing you can do is let it stand on its own and hope that it does not fall. The beating of that little piece of your heart that lives in someone else's chest...
Not gonna lie, I found this song because of a certain undertale animation, but I am so glad I did! I was already aware that Touhou had plenty of good music, but this track is on another level for me.
I know right? 6th stage themes tend to get forgotten under the boss theme. (aside from Fires of Hokkai) Hellfire Mantle, Grave of Being and Ultimate Truth deserve all the love they can get~
fires of hokkai is beautiful , and i agree i dont hear much about it , and i felt sorta bad since i dont really listen to it that often as other themes ( ^^);
Funny how I forgot about this song when PCB was one of my favourite Touhou games(and still to this day), this one it's by far the best arrange I have found, no other makes justice to the original song, thanks for sharing and never stop uploading stuff 😊
