- The fabulously beautiful Pavilion Hall of the Small Hermitage is one of my favourite halls. This is the most visited hall. During the reign of Catherine II balls were held there. There guests could relax, listen to music or just dream by the fountains of tears. The décor of the Pavilion Hall combines elements of the Renaissance, Glassical and Moerish styles. The interior overlooks part of the Hanging Garden that was once closed by a glass roof. The predominance of white, the splendor of the gilded bronze chandeliers with their crystal pendants the murmur of the fountains, and the light streaming through the windows lend the Pavilion Hall an elegant and wistful atmosphere. The priceless parquet, mosaic flooring and magnificent ensemble of chandeliers make this one of the palace's most memorable interiors. The famous Peacock Clock is located in the Pavilion Hall. This clock was made in London in 1770. The Peacock Clock is unique because it still works. It was made by the English watchmaker James Cox. In 1780 this timepiece turned up in Russia, where it was bought by Prince Grigory Potemkin for Russian Empress Catherine II. The clock itself had been dismantled. Only one man - Ivan Kulibin was able to reassemble it. When the clock is wound up, the melodious tinkling of tiny bells can be heard, after which the peacock spreads its tail feathers and the cockerel crows. The Pavilion Hall is a very beautiful hall of the Hermitage. #attraction #saintpetersburg #russia
