I remember the euros 1996, back then I was in middle school and I was obsessed with Oasis and everything English really, the first time I followed another team apart from Italy at a tournament, still cherish that goal that Gazza scored against Scotland, what a beauty!
Me too. I was a kid at the time and had only really gone nuts about football, and started playing all the time about a year earlier. I'm half Czech half English, so that tournament was doubly bittersweet with the fucking Germans beating both my teams. But that goal of Gazza's really was fantastic.

Gazza on the other hand was a proper working class kid, proper Geordie, never went anywhere except Spain as a kid, so it somehow seems more surprising that he went to Italy.
The movement with ball was just flawless. Simply elegant. Rooney, Stevie G, Frankie or Owen were never close to him. Maybe Matt Le Tissier could narrow the gap.
