I learned the hard way, let local buyers come to you. Ive been burned driving 30 mins to wait hrs to be stood up. Meet at a convenience store or Walmart within 5 mins. I only leave whenever they tell me "ive arrived".
I've also noticed some local sellers here will post in the listing that they are available at such and such a place on these particular days of the week, at this time. So buyers know ahead of time that if none of those times/places work for them, then don't even waste the seller's time. Plus, of course, it allows the seller to potentially meet several buyers at one time. (Of course, it means they lose potential buyers who can't meet them at those times, but it must work out for the sellers or they wouldn't keep including that in their listings.)
I sell the bigger things that I don't want to ship on FBMP, but nothing big like furniture. My town's police station has a meet-up area for on-line purchases in their parking lot that is well-lit and has cameras that record the area. Since I live 4 minutes from the Police Station, I do all my FBMP meet ups there. Since it's not my home address, I give people the exact address when they ask where I'm located and I do tell them it's at the Police Station where they have a safe space for transaction. Then if we agree upon the sale and a pick-up time, I have them message me when they are on their way with an ETA.
Things I've learned:
I don't hold anything for anyone - too many people flake.
I don't mark anything Pending for the same reason.
I don't mark anything Sold until I come home from the meet up.
I only do Cash Only.
Our small town police station does the same. It is very handy and much more secure.

The John D MacDonald books with colors in the titles are part of the Travis McGee series (21 books). Anything else is stand-alone titles. They are mysteries and thrillers. Good choice to pick up any of these vintage books. They sell well.
I have never sold on FBMP but I have bought items. I have had just the opposite a seller was an hour and a half late to sell me an air-conditioned. It was an hour drive for me so I couldn't just leave. What I did do was not give him the full amount of money. I got my money out and counted it then took $50.00 and put it in my purse and told him it was for my time. I said take it or leave it. He took the discounted price. I got a heck of a deal for a brand-new in the box unit 10,000 BTU for $150.00. My dad was with me, and he couldn't believe what I did. All my other purchases have been fine on FBMP but I never go alone.🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩

Mercari here in Florida has a local delivery option that you can choose and Mercari has a courier pick it up and deliver it. I have not used it yet but it may be worth exploring if available.
Hi!!! I from Puerto Rico and we still don’t have the option of shipping with FB market place but for various year I have been selling on that platform and to be honest the pass year sales have gone done. I sell what ever Will leave me a profit of $50 or more, I do things my term. I deliver the day the person contacts me cause if you tell them to wait until another day 75% of the time the sale is cancel. I don’t travel no more than 15 minutes from my house and I do it on daylight and in a place where is a lot of other people. It has work for me and it doesn’t interfere with my work and my reselling business. I did have notice that sell are been slower around a year. More people selling on the platform. But still a great way of selling items that shipping will be to high or a pain to ship. I have even sold my use wheels, the cups use on my sons wedding. The list of things that has allow me to sell is long. Great luck

We just did our first local auction at an auction house, of stale inventory.
Just got paid over $1500 for the auction that ended earlier in the week …. And we have a fraction of the inventory you have.
Most police stations have one of those meet areas for safety.
I sell on fb marketplace. A few tips. Pick a public spot a couple of miles from your location so that the other person has to do the driving. I let them know during the previous communication that I will be touching base before meeting, and I don't leave the house until I hear from them. I also be sure to tell them to bring exact change.

How about selling on whatnot?
A note about FBMP: to make it easier on myself and waste less time, I always put the items in my car. If someone is interested I ask them to meet me while I’m already out. I tell them I can’t wait around. If I’m out already no time wasted and if they don’t show I haven’t wasted time waiting.

A flea market here sets up a garage sale 2-3 times a year which I enjoy participating in. Lots of fun.

I think you would do great for fbm. Also you can offer shipping it just takes a little longer to get your money than ebay but I have had good luck. I would try fbm before auctions because selling local no fees but I think the dishes would do great.
Facebook have them pre pay or pay part. I have people pay a hold deposit. Non refundable.
I sell quite a few items from the storage units we buy on Facebook marketplace. I would feel weird listing something on Marketplace that I got local for fear that the original seller would see it. Is that just me?
Hi it's definitely just you. I've sold $46,000 in the last 90 days ebay , mercari, and facebook marketplace and 70% of my inventory comes from facebook marketplace. Soon as I pickup I go ahead and list it in fb with new Pictures. I have never had anyone made a comment of their item being resold. I list hundreds of items monthly.
100% of the time the seller is glad you picked up the item being sold and they dont have a care in the world what you do with it.

If you sell on marketplace be cognizant of telling EVERYONE when and where you are meeting. You could easily get "set up" and get taken advantage of. Be careful.
