    I've found the deck really wants more early creatures in order to get Breena triggers the turn you play her. I added a bunch of one- and two-mana creatures, including Vampire of the Dire Moon, Alseid of Life's Bounty, Grateful Apparition, Cliffside Rescuer, Thrull Parasite, the Silverquill deans, and one of my personal pet cards, Deftblade Elite.
    I also swapped out Gideon for Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord. Lifelink plays great with the +1/+1 counters, the minus ability works well with the cheap creatures above, and pinging opponents helps ensure they never all have the same life total as one another.

      hey, deftblade elite seems really nice here! I have 4 copies from an old soldiers deck, I might try it in my breena, since it's both turn 1 breena enabler and lategame removal!

      I know this comment is more than a year old, but thank you! Political decks are definitely an oddball as far as build guidelines go, and going in a more aggressive directions has been giving me really good results in my group.
      The new MOM card, Dusk Legion Duelist, looks like it'd be an absolute banger in this deck as well - a 2 drop that can draw cards every turn (including enemy turns if Breena triggers) and has vigilance to keep your defenses up? Sign me up :D

    This precon has been a ton of fun so far, incentivizing slower games to speed a bit up by having your opponent’s attack for cards, mana, or just forcing them. Two suggestions I have to add to the deck are late game win cons like Approach the Second Sun, and faster quick wincons like infect help close out games, especially as a surprise factor.

    1-cmc creatures (with evasion /lifelink like healer's hawk and vault skirge) let you attack on turn 2 to lower one opponent's life and then trigger breena on turn 3.

  • @drorian
    @drorian 3 года назад +3

    vehicles with crew 1 like smuggler's copter and sky skiff let you attack on turn 3 when casting breena, crewin them with her, plus they are as good as the ozolith since you get to keep counters on them after all your creatures are wiped out. this last thing is also true for lands as mishra's factory or shambling vent.

    I just got this deck and I only swapped a couple enchantments and then added an Ugin and the Ugin eventually resulted is me wrecking the board, multiple concedes, and me winning lol. My buddy runs his version of this deck and the whole game, me and him just kept setting off Breena triggers.

  • @drorian
    @drorian 3 года назад +3

    I added Angel's trumpet, it's insanely good with breena, lowers everybody's life, gives vigilance to your creatures with evasion so you can trigger breena AND block with them after you've put +1/+1 counters, it also prompts your opponents to attack to avoid taking damage or even just be able to block.

    Adding weathered wayfarer would be a must for me. Adding a bunch of neat lands to go along with it might be nice too. I might even move to a lands subtheme, where I can ramp with sevenes reclamation and brought back on fetchlands and myriad landscape.

    Omg this deck is so much fun. I have this one and the Witherbloom one. I recently found out I was playing Breena all wrong after watching a video so now she's even better.

  • @mkill572

    That last bit about the cycling lands ... I think it’s actually a mistake to take them out. It can happen easily to get mana flooded, and then the ability to get rid of a land and dig into the deck for just one mana is very, very good. This is especially true in Orzhov, which doesn’t have the easy access to wheels and cantrips that other colors have.
    Secluded Steppe and friends are probably the most underrated lands in commander.
    Commander players spend so much money on dual lands to make sure they have access to all their colors, but too few people take precautions against drawing too many / too few lands which is just as likely, and a lot more crippling.
    I know it’s hard to cut cool cards for them but you’re often better off including a cycle land as your 36th or 37th land.

    I added an Idyllic Grange and a Witch's Cottage to the list, they both interact fantastically with what the deck wants to do with counters and creatures dying on occasion (i'm running it as felisa).

    This is nice, but I can look up all these info on the site. I wish these video would be more a personal precon upgrade, like you do with Upping the Average. Actually when I see "precon upgrade guides" my main purpose is find cards that I (and other people) haven't found yet, and the second is trying to balance my upgrades in the right direction

    kinsbaile courier's encore ability, for 2W, lets you put 3 +1/+1 counters and create 3 2/1 tokens with haste that when attacking with breena in play let you put another 4 +1/+1 counters and draw 2 cards..

    If he wasn't so expensive and there was any sort of lifegain in the deck, I would say Karlov of the Ghost Council due to his activated ability and maybe Winds of Abandon for removal.

    • @MovieManiac67
      @MovieManiac67 3 года назад

      yo, I added Karlov to this because of the strong +1/+1 counter theme and added lifegain as a subtheme :D have yet to draw him yet, but I'm excited to do so

    • @DarkSwan01
      @DarkSwan01 3 года назад

      @@MovieManiac67 Gotta love it. :) I am thinking of adding Felisa, maybe Breena and the silverquill dragon to my Karlov deck since I have some ways of getting counters on creatures including Karlov himself(Pridemate, Ballista, Heliod Sun crowned, Ajani wise counselor) in order to have a secondary theme to my deck and for some spice.

      Abzan Battle Priest is a great budget upgrade for lifegain. With all the counters being thrown around everything can have lifelink!

    • @drorian
      @drorian 3 года назад

      you just have to add cheap (both in cmc and actual price) creatures with lifelink and possibly evasion and you have a lifegain subtheme, since they get so many +1/+1 counters.. healer's hawk, aerial responder, vampire nighthawk, hushbringer, nighthawk scavenger, nullpriest of oblivion, vault skirge, abzan battle priest, liesa, ghastly gloomhunter, killian, taborax.

    (*The main point and card of note are in last paragraph, below, if anyone dislikes reading extra detail...)
    So, I know we don't always want all eggs in one basket or to destroy most on up to [all minus 1] of our own creatures, but with the uptick that's resurged in the use of +1/+1 counters and token creatures, I thought way, way, half-waayyy back through magic's history, to those Summon Spike creatures that would enter as 0/0 with so many +1/+1's on them and u can pay so much mana to transfer them to other creatures or to get an effect triggered... like the even older clockwork and artifact Chimeras..., or for newer day folks, spikes were like the recent modular without requiring dying or being an artifact creature, but paying mana instead.
    Well I find I own this single black uncommon Spike Cannibal. When it enters the field successfully, you move +1/+1 counters NOT just from other Spikes but from other creatures onto it. All of the plus one plus one counters from ALL other creatures! That's like a Quandrix commander fractal wipe. Heck most of Strixhaven and recent stuff of the like. I say this admitting that the Quandrix Commander precon was my favorite precon ever if not at the very least tied w 2014 Teferi.
    *(Yup, this last paragraph.) So, I'm gonna try Spike Cannibal as a risky but awesome-if-pulled-off finisher in my Silverquill Statement. Maybe also the one white wipe that leaves u alone with an x/x phyrexian token to attack with. (Card-Name forgotten...) For my final, closing, end-turn phase statement, if any of you reading here did appreciate "explanations", thank you. And of all of the same who like to read "details", well, from me to yous each and all: Details.

    wound reflection imho fits well with the political theme, opponents are goin to hate you for playing it, but when they have to decide who to attack.. who do you think they will attack, the one who's goin to take x damage or the ones who are going to take double that amount?

    Do you like combat calligrapher? I’m not sure what to think of this card and if I should include it in (casual) decks at all

    • @drorian
      @drorian 3 года назад +2

      combat calligrapher is really strong, even if he dies you can easily get 2 inklings the turn you play it, plus your opponents have to attack each other if they want to get those inklings, before being able to attack you with them after destroyin it (and notice they are created already attacking so it's both more damage taken by your opponents and unable to block your flying ones the turn after)

    • @plain6677
      @plain6677 3 года назад +1

      @@drorian oh true you can get 2-3 inklings the turn you play it. I’ll try in Emmara and those flyers may be useful.

    oona's blackguard is absurdly good with breena, the only problem with it is you don't get to do politics when you have the strongest creatures on the board, draw cards and pump em up while attacking and making opponents discard.

    excavation technique is the perfect card for any political deck, but even for non political ones, you just say to ANY opponent: hey dude I'll destroy 2 nonland permanents, you can destroy another, just don't destroy anything to me and I won't to you. and it always works.

    This show idea kind of sucks, you could be doing more with your time Joey. A lot of players watch videos to learn about new cards or hear that something good is cheap. This show idea does neither of those things.
