I wonder why this was removed in more recent versions of FastDoom. This looks a lot nicer than the other CGA modes, although if the other dithering character was used as well it would be even better
From the release notes of FastDoom 0.9.2: * New video mode, IBM CGA 80x100 "512 color" mode with composite output (available for old and new IBM CGA cards) * Removed 136 pseudo-color modes, as CGA modes have been superseeded with better ones, same for EGA/VGA
@@DookNookim Yeah, I guess there's that. I haven't tried that as DOSBox doesn't seem to support composite mode in text mode, maybe I should look into some other emulator that supports it. Still, having another mode using the dithering characters would be cool
That's a great question! When we combine text mode and composite mode on a CGA, we can easily get 256 colors, 512 colors is also doable, and 1024 colors like in 8088 MPH would be the ultimate goal :)

What would this look like in NTSC composite?

The newest version of FastDoom has a IBM CGA 80x100 "512 color" mode.
Hmm, I wonder how much of a headache it would be to draw 2 fields so you can have a readable status bar?
I guess it's possible to draw the status bar using ANSI from Hell.
