its great to see a lively dad with his son having a fun time.it doesnt matter if its useless or not as long as you have a good time its not a waste.great work. keep up the really interesting ideas for entertainment:)
Does no one else see the comedy gold that this is, it's so funny, like even the rowers were terrible 😂 the random breaks to check focus, the editing, the back and forth between camera man and presenter. This should be a show, I'm just saying.
I love your video.. and the idea looks like so much fun! My daughter and i loved it. we went fishing last monday, and came back with nothing. magnet fishing seems like it would be perfect fishing for the kids or bored fisherman waiting for catfish to bite. lol
the first thing u cought is a "scythe" blade, used often by fishermens. it screws on to a pole (same pole that is for landing nets to clear the weeds on a spot were they wanna fish=)
Thanks for the engaging introduction to magnet fishing! Just the right mix of teaching the basics, demonstrating the process, weaved in with wit and humor made for a very fun watch.
If you fed the fish fish pellets with loads of iron in them and upgraded your magnet size, would it, in theory, be possible to actually catch fish with this type of device? Though, I don't know how edible they would be since they're pumped with iron.
Rigged up 4 in a row like yours and went down the local jetty, everything going well until the loop fell off my foot, Lost the lot so ran back to the car for more rope and hook Got it back after a while on retrieving it , it was tangled in some fishing line which in turn was attached to a Shimano rod and reel. Had been in the water for about 4 years by the look of the growth. But still a great find
Do a bit of that myself...but that's a nice setup you have there. Always nice to find stuff you can reuse...the scrap bucket is the last resort...and thanks for cleaning up the rivers too! Merry Christmas!
Got to say thats one cool design. Great way to keep the magnets working for you. Thanks for the video and im gonna have to "borrow" your design and hit some places on this side of the pond.
Your FIRST :D find is a weed trimmer, anglers use them to clear weeds, plants etc from the swim to give them room or get rid of potential snags, I know this as I have lost one, mine had the top section of my very expensive landing net handle attached to it though. :( you will find a lot of fishing related items withing 4 feet of the bank in the more popular fishing spots. Hope to see some more of these types of hunts! GL & HH
Thank you, I have no idea about the dislikes and don't really care after 4m views lol please subscribe as I need people like you to watch my videos all the best Paul
haha this was awesome! loved watching this, even if it was mostly junk you hauled out, what a laugh it looks like you had while cleaning up the river a little. you should do more of these videos in different places, see what you can haul up.
I absolutely love this kind of thing. I don't understand the dislikes! It's not like you advertised something without supplying it. I hope there will be more magnet fishing on this channel one day. :)
I use a 250-pound Magnet... One day I retrieved a trolling motor... Got it home and cleaned it up removed the switch that was bad and straight wired it to a 12-volt battery and the thing worked great... I still have it... I also got a 15hp outboard motor one day but it was all locked up no good... But most of what I find is just trash... But at least I get it out of the river and lakes...
lol I was really thinking that he was going to catch a fish with that tool and I was fucking wondering how was it possible to put a fish into closed bottle
This is great... They could make bigger ones and use it to clear out all the junk in the ponds! This way the water won't get polluted and fish die! THIS IS A MIRACLE
Zippo lighters have a 'forever' warrantee. If you send the one you found to them, they'll replace it, regardless of how it was damaged. Its one of the best warrantees of ANY product on earth.
Nice one ! it reminded me of when i was a kid, and my friend and I would magnet fish his Dad's gravel driveway , every nail we found he gave us 5 pence , it was all good until he caught us increasing our chances of finding one by adding a few from his garage.
+Mad Gaming lol nah it is actually a thing where you get scrap metal and melt it down into ingots. no resale value due to the amount of fuel you use :P
The first thing you caught looked like a double edged weed cutter, I keep one in my fishing kit. If you had fixed a magnet on both sides of the steel bar you would not need the flotation device, one on top one on the bottom, doesn't matter which way up it lands. Obviously with 2 spread out you stand a better chance of " catching " something, but you could get another 2 magnets and fix them on the underneath. The bottle is going to split as you keep throwing it out.
+Jack Spratt thanks for your comment, if the magnets land upside down they don't pick up as effectively as face down, the bottle might split but it's cheap and easy to replace all the best Paul
+ArcturanMegadonkey " If you had fixed a magnet on both sides of the steel bar you would not need the flotation device, one on top one on the bottom, doesn't matter which way up it lands." Didn't you read that part?
lol, you know what, since i'm not the only one to think that, the title is bad advertising! Posting the coment i made i was prepared for haters calling me stupid for thinking that , lol.
I think people disliked the video because they thought that you were going to be fishing with a magnet (as did I), but I stayed because it was an interesting video. thumb for you, good luck bud
This is a conspiracy. I believe you guys put all that snazzy stuff in there, then fished it all out. Im calling the authorities on grounds of false advertising ;D
Great video Paul and the first magnet fishing video I have ever watched. That's a great idea with adding some buoyancy to keep the magnets in the correct position , and there were some interesting finds. I hope you upload some more videos. Regards Bob
Thanks Bob, I watched a few peoples builds and thought they weren't quite right as the catching area on a single magnet is about 10cm whereas mine covers over a foot so fingers crossed next time I'm out I'll get something decent. It's good fun, you should try it all the best Paul
Looked like great fun but I have to say that I'm suspecting that you stuck some of the finds on the magnets before you cast it out just so it looked like a good hunt. ...... Only kidding, man. I just saw the other comment below and thought I'd take the piss, lol
Thanks mate, cannot believe people think I'd spend a few hrs freezing my nuts off and plant finds LOL....like I really want to rumage around trying to find rusty pieces of junk
ArcturanMegadonkey I get comments like that and it's hilarious. While there are fools on here faking all sorts of detecting finds in their quest for views and subs I think a guy pulling rusty lumps of iron from a muddy canal wouldn't be under suspicion, lol
I don't see an answer to the question. What would you do if your magnet stuck on something too big for you to pull up? I know things are pretty weightless underwater, but can you actually pull up something big?
Great minds, ha ha! I got a magnet a few weeks ago, and have been meaning to do a video on it. I must admit though...I didn't do much research. and thought that magnets pick up 'any' metals. Only found out after I had brought it, that isnt the case. Bloomin idiot :)
you gota give it a go, there's tons of weed, sticks and junk but sometimes something like a Zippo lighter, I'm really after medievel swords but I think I'll have to have lots of luck for something like that lol
You will get modern day steel core coinage using a magnet but depending on long the coins have sat in the water they may be rusty like the beach coins that rust from the cheap steel cores that our money is now made from lol
Little John Thanks John, these are the steel core coins but in fresh water there is little signs of rust whereas on the beach as you no doubt have seen they are falling aprt

I see you are having lots of fun with your son or family :D Also, I think what you do as a hobby is good because you are collecting those items out of water which could be polluting the water so yeah nice video!
+sean davies we found metal, the river is about 2,000 years old, the anglo saxons and vikings threw offerings to their gods which were swords etc, historically very valuable Paul
+ArcturanMegadonkey so you were not trying to catch magnets nor trying to catch fish with magnets! yet the titles suggest such a thing. you were actually scavenging for metal with magnets! the river is 2000 years old, so what i live next to a river that is over 30,000 years old and it flows into a river that is older than 50,000 years old! there are a lot of dream-time stories about them
+ArcturanMegadonkey if you did some research you would know that what you showed in you video is called scavenging, if you had a licence to do such a thing it is called salvaging!
I know a fella who magnet fished a WW1 .455 Webley revolver from the grand union canal while he was trying to retrieve a spanner dropped overboard.. He kept it on its mantlepiece.. Lol..nice zippo BTW, happy fishing
For a second I thought you found someone's old hard drive... best to leave old hard drives at the bottom of the water bed. Horror movies start that way, fishing out old video cassettes and hard drives out of lakes.
ArcturanMegadonkey Thx for the reply. I had a neodimyiom magnet with a pull of about 300 lbs and got it tangled near a canal lock. I couldnt pull enough weight and you can feel its stuck. I spent half the day crossing over the lockgates to one side or another pulling from various angles until I freed it. thats why i nerfed it to have a sort of half ball shape at the top of it so it doesnt catch on things. A straight right angle on these magnets is almost a hook and WILL catch and get caught up. Your set up is admittedly diffrent.
maybe develop a rig where you have a release and a retract button hooked up to a motor on a fishing pole, that way you can hold the stick out and drop straight down instead of throwing it. i think it might make it easier to get out, that way you don't have to drag it across the floor and pick up seaweed and other plants/natural things that can mess up the retraction...hmmmm...
Look into sending the Zippo back to the manufacturer. Most times if you send it back because it has a problem they will fix it for free. Not entirely sure about old and rusty there, but it's worth a shot.
uNNNbelievable !!! Dreadful what peeps throw in such a respectable place ... water ... what an inspiration you are in showing the world how nasty they behave towards their environment. Thankyou for your thought provoking video.
I've been telling people Hey this brilliant man created this...well you know what you've created. But evertyone is extremely surprised and impressed. WW2 gun...you're attempting to do something that's not been thought of by most. Not only are you retrieving really remarkable things out of the water, but you're clearing out all of the hazardous debree out of the water. Genius
love the video. Was that Big Ben in the background? I've been a magnet collector since I was a child. I may just wind up doing this in the Mississippi River.
This should be a reality show. You could go to different places and fish!
its great to see a lively dad with his son having a fun time.it doesnt matter if its useless or not as long as you have a good time its not a waste.great work. keep up the really interesting ideas for entertainment:)
+Arif Nihat YILDIZ thank you, that's really nice
I totally agree. great fun.
Thanks Gary.
Does no one else see the comedy gold that this is, it's so funny, like even the rowers were terrible 😂 the random breaks to check focus, the editing, the back and forth between camera man and presenter. This should be a show, I'm just saying.
Remove wind noise by applying a small round bandaid/plaster on the microphone hole.
Myles Nicholas yes I was wondering about that but I've found an old piece of pillow case that works just as well
thanks
ArcturanMegadonkey It don't sound like it working very well at all to me...
Z71Ranger I didn't use it when this was filmed lol
This is actually pretty fascinating. I just think it's silly so many people disliked the video. Stay safe and have fun you two :)
Probably the wind noise.
Brilliant idea!! Anyone that knows anything about boats and water and docks will appreciate this.
I could drag up about $100 worth of fishing lures in 15 minutes with that thing where I live.
+balzonurchin There you go, it would work for that

Oooo you're feisty
It's feasible even without the added iron but it would require a rather powerful magnet or one that's powered by a powerful generator

Is it sad that I thought he was actually going to catch fish with magnets..... ):
I thought that as well :-((
Will Collins wtf XDD you got no brains?
bla50085 actually, this would be possible, if the magnet would be strong enought
Dont worry. You're not alone ...
yeah sure but that magnet would be biiiiig :D
Splash
or at least powerd by a biiiig generator :D
You must be fishing some steel head brim. Lol. Love your idea!!👍🏼😃 Great video!
we all know hes trying to find the gun he used in that armed robbery before the cops find it.
lol you're funny
Got to say thats one cool design. Great way to keep the magnets working for you. Thanks for the video and im gonna have to "borrow" your design and hit some places on this side of the pond.

Maeg dam right I am LOL

Ty Colson it would be awesome if it was an ali3n trapped in a UFO
I absolutely love this kind of thing. I don't understand the dislikes! It's not like you advertised something without supplying it. I hope there will be more magnet fishing on this channel one day. :)
That moment when it hits the trigger of a second world war bomb hidden in the lake

+ArcturanMegadonkey
And all without the aid of a hammer and chisel...just.
I've wasted 3+ minutes watching this thinking there were fish that were attracted to magnets, thinking oh no way, I got see those fish

if only gold was magnetic.

+contreeman Same goes for the coins.
The thing that came up with the tent stake looks like a paint scraper, looks like it was a lot of fun. have a great day karla
Thanks Karla, yes it was a paintscrapper, cannot imagine why it was in the river lol
Bad idea to wrap it around your leg. What happends if you hook a submarine
I don't think it's strong enough to permanently stick to a submarine and what would there be a submarine there

a perfect video to watch in case you have a hangover. i didn't have a hangover but still watched the video

Pondguru yeah dam right, am baffled that he thought I'd go collect up a load of rusty shite and make it out as I'd found it....Hmmmm lol
ArcturanMegadonkey Yeah, can't see why anyone would think you're faking finds--you didn't even catch a magnet! ;-P
WHERE'S MY PISS?!?!? WHERE HAVE YOU TAKEN IT!?!?
just a thought,
put wheels about 1 foot behind the magnets, better pulling keeps them off the ground alil, won't loose so much
I was expecting for some fish.
+Jack Graybird iron fish?
+ArcturanMegadonkey Fish with gear stuck in their mouths from a line break
+killer1986chris yeah a big pike with a spinner in it's mouth lol....possible!
*wind blows* *more wind blows* *deafening sounds of wind hitting a microphone* "oy look, it's a pence!!"

Badplum25 Hey thats cool I also like talking to smart people! :-)
great video, looks like a lot of fun. I'm going to have to try this. you should make a video on exactly how to make your magnet rig.....
Throw it in the power line :-)
+Sharkie Holland good idea....come and help lol
ArcturanMegadonkey
For the kids reading this, don't do it, will probably kill you.
+Sharkie Holland yes, for the kids reading this don't as it WILL kill you.
+ArcturanMegadonkey Indeed, that's how it is.
the camera person has a beautiful voice. I love it. this video all together is just great and this looks like fun to do in the rivers here in missouri
thank you, it's my 15yr old son working the camera
Fuck that wind
+Levi Lavis yes I know
it would be good though with out that
yeah I know. I shame I cannot go back and edit it
all good bro could u do more?
Looks like a great deal of fun! I collect old Zippo lighters, and I am extremely jealous that you found one magnet fishing! I might have to try this.
Nate Notmyreallastname which country are you in? I might send you it
thanks for watching and commenting

You need to take that by a bridge, people love throwing stuff off bridges.
nice idea and great job finding those old thing and that music thing was mabey from the 1999
You haven't caught any fish with them magnets. You said "magnet fishing"...
You're "fishing" for magnetic objects at the bottom of the river. Did you actually think he'd be catching fish with the magnet?
+Anomalocaris Gaming
Yes... i did :3
Steelhead?
:))))) nice1
generic name for it
When he said the tie it around his foot part, I kept thinking of Capt. Ahab in Moby Dick. Good thing he's wearing good heavy boots or he might've gone for a plunge from the heavy magnets!
Sorry to be yer nan but don't tie it round your foot.
+kingklabe why not
Drowning because foot tied to rope snagged on something and tangled prevents guy who accidentally falls in from keeping head above water. Potentially.
+kingklabe if that happens then it's just your time to go.
Or it's just your shouldn't have tied a rope round the foot time.
+kingklabe You are right, i see no reason to put it around your foot.
possibly put a glow stick inside the water bottle to help gauge distance or a LED set up just to make it extra geeky :)
+Miles H could do
I was wondering how he was gonna catch fish with manet! !!
nice one.. this is amazing... not the magnet fishing.. but for the father and son bonding..
I thought he was going to use the magnets to confuse the fish by manipulating the organs that use the magnetic fields to help them navigate
Fish use electromagnetic fields so how would that magnet Do anything
i dunno. I just thought he was going to do something else to catch actual fish or sometime.
u stupid😂
Nice to see you are cleaning the water. In Seattle we have a problem with the Swans dying because the water is contaminated with Shotgun Lead pellets.
yes I was certainly doing that, it's a shame that the waters just about everywhere are contaminated with junk

so you did not catch any fish with your magnets, or is it you are trying to catch magnets? if neither then rename your video correctly!
+sean davies we found metal, the river is about 2,000 years old, the anglo saxons and vikings threw offerings to their gods which were swords etc, historically very valuable
Paul
+ArcturanMegadonkey so you were not trying to catch magnets nor trying to catch fish with magnets! yet the titles suggest such a thing. you were actually scavenging for metal with magnets! the river is 2000 years old, so what i live next to a river that is over 30,000 years old and it flows into a river that is older than 50,000 years old! there are a lot of dream-time stories about them
+sean davies go and do a search for 'the witham sword'
the recognised name for this is 'magnet fishing'
+ArcturanMegadonkey if you did some research you would know that what you showed in you video is called scavenging, if you had a licence to do such a thing it is called salvaging!
+sean davies right thanks for that.
Great idea! No need for a metal detector or a dive suit.
Love the Bells in the background
+16BitTerror thank you
The best spot to fish would be anywhere there's a bend in the river, the outside bank towards the end is where metal will begin to stack up.
I know a fella who magnet fished a WW1 .455 Webley revolver from the grand union canal while he was trying to retrieve a spanner dropped overboard.. He kept it on its mantlepiece.. Lol..nice zippo BTW, happy fishing
wow that would be a really nice find
thanks for watching
happy hunting...and fishing lol
You would be the coolest uncle ever! Nice video!
+Pos Sheppard thanks very much, that's really nice to know.
all the very best
Paul
Missouri here...nice find on the Zippo lighter! I might have to give this a try some time.
+Op Reroll Hello from the UK, thanks for watching the video.
it's good fun to do
all the best
Paul
For a second I thought you found someone's old hard drive... best to leave old hard drives at the bottom of the water bed. Horror movies start that way, fishing out old video cassettes and hard drives out of lakes.
2x2x1 inch neo mag with u-bolts in a + pattern on the bottom won't turn loose and will only cost you about $35/US.
+Ben Cooley yes you are correct
thanks for watching and commenting
all the best
Paul
looks like a collection of floor installing tools... the first thing you found was a hawk bill knife for cutting in vinyl flooring
+Macgrower1986 yes, spot on
loved the video, your excitement makes me excited for when the ice thaws and I can go magnet fishing! lmao
+hunter fearon Thanks very much, hope you find some decent stuff
all the best
Paul
Really cool video! I love videos from other countries;) watching from America!
+jake beaty thank you very much Jake
all the best

What an interesting idea. The real find here are those bolts. They'll be made of high carbon steel. You could forge them into something like a knife.
+Osckarre very true
If anyone is wondering, 68 pounds is roughly 31 Kilograms.
this is the first id ever even heard of magnet fishing. Neat.
+Secretpurpleq Elipsis thank you, hope you sub'd as I'll be making another soon
Had never heard of doing such a thing, awesome idea, at the very least it looks like you were having a blast haha
+FMLgd thank you very much, yeah it's good fun especially when it locks onto something
all the best
Paul
You need something on top of the magnets to prevent them getting tangled perhaps?
Something like a half sphere made of wood or whatever.
zenoist2 this setup rarely gets tangled and it's easy to sort out.
thanks for watching
Paul
One cool frood who really knows where his towel is! You need to try magnet fishing in some fjords, as they might become fashionable once again...
+M LSS thank you hoopy frood
Look into sending the Zippo back to the manufacturer. Most times if you send it back because it has a problem they will fix it for free. Not entirely sure about old and rusty there, but it's worth a shot.
+RadiatedZombie yes, thank you
Bells in the background are fantastic!
rockotter100 thanks very much
uNNNbelievable !!!
Dreadful what peeps throw in such a respectable place ... water ... what an inspiration you are in showing the world how nasty they behave towards their environment. Thankyou for your thought provoking video.
amasing the amount of crap that you can pull out of one single spot... and the river looks so pristine. imagine doing this in the city.
that's amazing. and you're clearing the crap out iof the water. brilliant
+just call me Ellen Thankyou Ellen.
Genius
+just call me Ellen Thank you again Ellen. there could be anything in this river as it's very old
love the video. Was that Big Ben in the background? I've been a magnet collector since I was a child. I may just wind up doing this in the Mississippi River.
thank you, it was just a village church chimeing it's bells
Nice.
to keep items you have to take when still in the water because the weight is lower.
so it does not ever come off 😉
