Rod and Elton... talent almost unimaginable unless experienced live and reflected upon over stories, albums, and videos. Thanks for sharing you amazing gifts.
Long John Baldrey got both Elton and Rod connected in the music biz. The story was that Baldrey met Rod when he was busking in a London tube station at 17.
35 yrs ago, I shared a stage with Long John Baldry. He and his band did a one off at the bar our band was booked to play for the week. His band was amazing. The next two days after him were Savoy Brown. I got to meet Baldry, Kim Simmons, and David Walker that week. We only played the back 3 that week. It was awesome. Baldry lived in Vancouver, and you could see him on the bus from time to time in his later years. He was always a nice guy to me and anyone else that I'd see him interact with in public.
@juliemarie5926 you should have seen his band that night. They let it rip. He had a female vocalist with him, Cathy MacDonald, I believe, was her name. They blasted out a version of unchain my heart that I can still remember. A true professional, no matter how large or small the venue.
@@juliemarie5926 Exactly so many music stars admired him, people have written books about him, sadly despite being respected in the music industry....the public never cared.
What an icon, classy gent. Oldest brother saw Rod Stewart with Jeff Beck. During late '60s, San Francisco. I enjoyed his '93 tour. Decades later. Timeless music since the '60s. Quite remarkable. 😺
It’s interesting that his biggest hit is Do You Think I’m Sexy. KISS’ most downloaded song is I Wasn’t Made for Loving You which also leaned into a bit of disco.
For everyone, if you can get it online or go to your nearest library and request it, the memoir that Rod Stewart did several years ago is absolutely wonderful. Chapter by chapter he goes through his life and loves chronologically. The book is very well written and it's the kind of thing that if you ever had the chance to meet him you'd say to him, "I read your memoir and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you for many years of great music!" I finally saw him in 2007...
A story in it ( as memory serves ) he actually had throat cancer and couldn't sing for 6 months and wasn't sure if he'd ever get it back. After 6 mos brought his band to his garage and each day he'd sing a little, then a little more til it strengthened.
1:10 On related topics, a hotel manager in CA once asked Peter Grant, Zep’s manager, if he too could throw a TV set off the roof of the hotel the band were staying at. Grant reportedly smiled, handed a couple of hundred dollars over to him and told him to go ahead.
Great to hear a guy who did booze and drugs, enjoyed it and never let it get out of hand because it would get in the way of the things he liked doing. Live fast(ish), die old!😂
As rock stars age, the generation gap between them and the interviewer closes. They no longer appear to be the young upstart, and become more establishment figures. Approaching 80, Rod Stewart re-dresses the balance by insisting his interviewer is 15 years older than he is!😂

Love this guy. Talented, mischievous, and funny❤
How Lucky is Dan Rather to meet and talk with all these wonderful people and still doing what he loves in his 90’s!! 💕💕
Such an underrated artist, great to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves.
Rod's a sweetheart. Cheers mate!
Rod Stewart has more energy than any other rock star. Look at age 79 he’s still going top speed. Amazing entertainer.
Good interview

One talented guy who never made it as big as he should.

ROD STEWART LOOKS GOOD HE HAS NOT AGED AT ALL ❤❤❤❤❤ I'M A BIG FAN OF ROD STEWART ❤❤❤
What an incredible man, so open and honest, a true gentleman
Started being a fan of Rod Stewart during the late 80s when Downtown Train music video came on MTV. Great guy. Amazing to hear him talk about Elton ❤
Still has the best hair 😍
Other celebs should look up to Rod for never taking drugs, no rehab I admire him for that!
He said he dabbled in them.
Did alot of drinking and dabbled with cocaine...clean for a rock star but not totally
Don't believe it m8
He didn’t say he never took drugs.
Great interview once again! 👏

Now I can never listen to "Maggie Mae" again without laughing.
Look how many times David Bowie changed. All the best change with the times.
❤❤❤
If I didn't know any better, I might think Dan is working for the FBI or some interrogation agency, lol. Jeez. Love yA Rod! From Jeff Beck Group on!
Good on year Rod.Legend on & off the pitch 😅

Live fast(ish), die old!😂
Dan really should have asked him whether it was Rod or Richard Gere who had his stomach pumped after an equestrian event.
My first was 1 second🙂
Rod's not being terribly honest about his drug use...
That part!!! 😂
What was the story about the sailors?
I bet they both play the skin flute with each other. Sick world.
All you need to do is walk in to your Barber and say "Give me a Rod"
Yea
Her name is Dani
Hot legs was a good album

Disco ? You mean R&B . But with more lights .
