Yeah, I never really got that. I feel like the people who say the girlfriend shouldn’t propose are just insecure. Would love it if my woman proposed to me; to me, that would show she’s confident and truly loves me for me, making her really attractive in my eyes. In my opinion, I think it’s best to propose in private though and not in front of a bunch of people, like an empty beach in the morning or at dusk would be nice. I say to propose in private because of less stress, embarrassment, and peer pressure.

Well, I am bit in traditional side. To me, proposing is a man's responsibility in a relationship. If he failed for it, then its up to the woman to decide whether she wanted to stay or leave.
In this story, Ann can tell the mother that she is pregnant, but why not tell her bf too? She can just discuss her situation then let him propose her since I don't see that he is a bad guy. He was just not ready and could not stand with his gf proposed him first (without knowing that pregnancy all about).
