Am I the only nerd who thinks the box should match the ring, like a green box for a green stone ring. A red box for a Ruby, garnet, red Diamond, or spinel. The purple box for an amethyst, etc…

No, I don’t agree. There should be contrast between the ring and box. It shows it off much better. And that way you don’t give away what’s inside.

Have you ever seen the 7 carat red diamond in the Hall of Gems in the Smithsonian? Unbelievable. As to the boxes, Sharpie markers can take care of any exterior color you don't like.
