Ideas for the holes at the back of the scoop.
Weave a zip tie in and out of the holes to reduce the gap.
Place Velcro (spiked not the mesh) over the holes and cut smaller holes to suit. The Velcro spikes would also act as a chain and earring clasp catch. The spikes would flush the sand easier than the entangled fiber side of the Velcro.
You could even run the Velcro down the center over the small slots to catch the small stuff.

Yeah, i can’t help but to chase the small signals that sneak through. Occasionally they’ve been a gold earring or gold tooth. Usually just bits of molten aluminum though. But, it’ll be awhile again, because now the finger injury needs re-surgery next week 🥺
