There's an unsettling quality to The Shadow's theme. It's bombastic and heroic but there's something in the wind instruments and synthesizers that give it a strange quality that speaks to The Shadow's nature. Once again, I salute the talent that is Jerry Goldsmith, my favorite movie-composer!
Everyone says they should’ve made sequels or even remake. But part of what makes this movie so special and memorable is that it’s only one and we only get one of its kind. Terribly underrated movie, love The Shadow!
Wow my notifications let me down, sorry for late reply. Yeah I do agree with what you said. I would love to see him come back to the big screen but they probably would mess it up like they are with every franchise nowadays. Best to leave him where he is.... in the shadows lol :)
@@theshadowost7303 I agree. It’d be great to see The Shadow again. But even if they did remake it and ruin it at least they could never really replace this great movie.
The trouble is, another Shadow movie would ignore this one, replace Alec Baldwin, be totally humourless and certainly wouldn't have this awesome Jerry Goldsmith score. We'd get generic modern blockbuster music that's completely forgettable. It's such a shame this one wasn't a hit at the time then maybe we would have had two or three sequels straight afterwards.
A modern Shadow movie would only work if the director and writers are familiar with elements of the Film Noir genre, and it's written in the style of the Pulps
Such an underrated marvelous movie! Luv it! Reminds me of my teenage years, used to rent it VHS so many times (Egypt, Damanhour). Those where the days! Jerry goldsmith, blessed 🙌 🙏
One thing I love about this movie was the ending. The actual legitimate heir of Genghis Khan locked in a nuthouse with other guys claiming to be Teddy Roosevelt, Napoleon, etc because they actually are crazy. Yet he really was the guy he said. Brilliant. They also really captured the whole gritty, harsh Depression Era theme of the setting, E.G. the whole scene on the bridge near the beginning. "Around every corner, in every empty room, I'll be waiting, as inevitable as your own guilty conscience." "...Am I in Hell?" "Not yet."
This was such an underrated superhero film. It had all elements and feel of what the Shadow should be as a movie. And they could not have picked a better actor at the time than Alec Baldwin to play him.
The Shadow in the comics is not at all a quippy, he a very serious charcter. Even Lamont Cranston makes clever and slightly sarcastic remarks more than he does wisecracks. I also didn't like the Shadow's origin much in this for Kent Allard wasn't his true identity and they made one of his powers invisibility which is from the radio drama rather than from the comics. That's why I wasn't a big fan of this movie but maybe I would have liked it more had I not read the comics first.
M Dolan Do you mean the original pulp magazines? The Shadow wasn’t originally a comic book character, though you are right that, as much as I LOVE this movie, combining the two different backstories creates problems.
I would love a new video game for him! If you didn't know there was a cancelled Snes beat em up game that you can get as a reproduction cart now. It's still in it's beta form so there's known to be glitches and whatnot but it's still pretty cool. I've got a copy myself and enjoyed playing it.
I played this to a friend & they thought it was the theme to Doctor Strange for some reason. I was like you know what this actually fits well with Strange too. Hell maybe if there was a Doctor Strange movie in the 90's or Early 2000's they could've used The Shadow's theme for the trailers.
You know I made lyrics to this & I wonder if Goldsmith did it like this on purpose or just coincidence? "What evil lurks in the hearts of men? The shadow knows." Literally sing it with the correct que of it & you will not get it out of your head.
You know with Sam Raimi having the film rights to the Shadow & seeing in Multiverse of Madness Danny Elfman used familiar themes like Xavier's theme is the 90's X-Men theme, plus in Justice League he used the John Williams Superman theme, Batman 89 theme & the CW Flash theme, I hope when Raimi does a Shadow remake he will get Elfman to do the theme because that means it's a good chance we will hear this theme again.
Flops usually means it made no money but according to Hollyweird Accounting, no movie ever makes a profit. So screw what the critics and accounts say, this movie ruled!
One of the best superhero themes. Great stuff by Jerry Goldsmith.
Yup I love this score
God I love this theme. It's really perfect.
one of my favorite tunes from the album although I have a lot of favs from this lol
The album is soo underrated, its criminal. One of Goldsmiths most unique and powerful works.
The music for this under-rated gem was amazing!

I wholeheartedly agree. I've come back to this movie and seen it in a whole new light. Can't say enough good things about it.
This is one of my favorite films.
great film, the Phantom with Billy Zane was similar.
The first sound of this track, like a radar, is just priceless. Like an hypnotic wave. Damn.
I love how everyone loves Batman begins, and really deep down it was basically a remake of the shadow.
bring the SHADOW back!
Yup basically and we need another Shadow movie

I am currently working on a Shadow project. 🎬
B. Lloyd Reese Same with Doctor Strange.

One of the best and most underated movies ever.
Jerry always knew how to blend orchestra and synth together
Such an underrated marvelous movie!
Luv it!

This is not Genghis Khan, but his descendant Shivan Khan got into a madhouse.
sorry for bad English
@@user-fh2co6mw9s he said heir dude.....

I couldn't have agreed more the shadow is a cult classic and generated a huge following back in the day
It is a good childhood memory of mine as well

"I took it out of the Toku, after I rammed it through his heart!"
Insomniac or Rocksteady need to make a videogame of The Shadow!

Man I am making up a story about the shadow and the arkham batman.
It reminds me of the track used in the 1990s The Saint movie.

My one & only favorite movie with Alec Baldwin in it. I’ve always admired his work in this movie.

Sounds like a great trailer intro!
The shadow true to that of Carl Jung.

MARGOT LANE
The movie may have been a flop, but we got one of Jerry's best scores ever from it!
I enjoyed it for what it was but yes I absolutely love this score!
That describes so many of Goldsmith's projects haha

I always wondered what happens if Dr. Strange fights The Shadow
