Rishi Sunak launches his manifesto. Is Britain still listening? | The News Agents

- Rishi Sunak launched the Conservative manifesto today at Silverstone. We’ve been trying to swerve the racing metaphors but the odd one crept in. He talked a LOT about tax cuts - doubling down on his disproven claim of Labour tax rises, but offered few new policies.
The performance was polished. But has the public stopped listening? We talk to Home Secretary James cleverly and Deputy Foreign Secretary Andrew Mitchell.
Later WE HAVE THE QUIZ RESULTS. And A WINNER is crowned.

People have simply had enough, their is absolutely nothing they can say.
That is precisely how I feel. Nothing the Tory's say, will make any iota diff. So when they speak, I mute them. Enough is enough
'There will always be a Conservative party while there is tyranny and privilege to conserve.' - James Connolly
In the 40 yrs I have been in my house NO politician has knocked my door.
Nor mine
The thousands of 18-year-olds that are going to be forced to "volunteer" will probably end up doing jobs that people should be getting paid to do.
Stopped listening 14 years ago
@@georgebutler44 you cant because the NHS stopped functioning 14 years ago too
12:00 James Cleverly, what’s the national debt now compared to 2010? What a joke.
Does he have a job lined up for August?
@@michaeladkins6 probably, just unlikely to involve maths
Get these ghouls out.
He’d need to sack over 1/4 million civil servants earning £20k a year to make a £6b saving in that waffle. That’s about 1 in every 250 people in UK losing their job.
We should definitely be calling this the Black Hole budget.
The tories love sacking civil servants because of their small state= low taxes mindset. They failed to realise that these civil servants do stuff, and sacking them is often a false economy. The asylum backlog wasn't a £6 million per day problem under Labour because claims were dealt with in a timely way.
There are 31 million workers in the UK.
250,000 is one on 124.
It's probably spread over 5 years, and they said 4 billion. So it's like 33,000 civil servants sacked
All the civil servants must not vote this greedy and selfish Tory party to save their jobs.
Flowery platitudes don't work when most of the voters are struggling as a direct result of your policies
James cleverly is in for a big surprise when he sees the exit poll then.
It’s more like the wheels have come off, the car is on fire and the driver died on impact that petty much sums up the Tories campaign so far and it’s only getting worse
The wind has been taken out of his sails.
The credibility has been taken out of his government.
The Blues Brothers of news
I didn't ever expect to see Lou Reed and Nico guest presenting this.
I have lived in three different areas over the past twenty years, the only politicians who have knocked on my door have been Labour and Green.
I like the shades 😎. It’s the News Brothers ! 😂
Cleverly is insane. Yes Labour borrowed but can someone please point out how much lower borrowing was under Labour than the Tories? Also, the idea that the Tories are trying to get everyone to do more unpaid work is right up there with food banks are "uplifting". Squeeze the population for more work whilst paying them nothing in a cost of living crisis. Awesome.
National Debt in May 2010 was £950 billion.
It is now above £2,700 billion.
Dont forget.... Homelessness is a lifestyle choice!
More poignantly, how much has the Torys borrowed?????
That should have been asked
But, but... the note!
@@isabellewhite3505 £1,740 billion on the main debt. £470 billion of QE money printing. £140 billion of student debt. £60 billion of PFI debt.
£120 billion of local authority debt.
£70 billion of NHS trust debt.
So £2.6 trillion in 14 years.
About £500 million a day for 5,200 days .
they always miss out the effect that Liz Truss had on the economy. Please remind them.
Love this show ❤️ 😅😊
And what about the clip that he laughs at an out of work GP? When one of his entourage jokes that she sould'nt go on holiday so often.....
James Cleverly misspoke - he meant to say that he’s knocked “a door” hundreds of times this week as the only resident saying the nonsense that he’s spouting is himself. James, me old mate. Stop ringing your own doorbell 😂
Desperate times, desperate measures. This is the campaign precis....
Thanks for posting
Why do Tories keep lying about taxes?
TORIES INCREASED TAXES FOR ALL, even in you only look at the last 2 years.
For me as an individual, for my businesses, for every single business and freelancer I meet.
No, he has absolutely nothing to say that I am interested in hearing. He has asset stripped the 🇬🇧 & is on his way to California.
Tories never listened for 14 years, why should anyone listen to them?
Cleverly is only talking to Tory voters.
I’ve been SE for 24 years. This cut will make no difference.
Rishi's tyres have lost grip.
His brakes have failed.
He is very low on fuel.
Now he's got a puncture and he is half a lap from the pits.
Falling asleep a Political Migraine should now come with official warnings 🙇♀️People are fed up with him what’s he doing printing cash ?It decimated every economic stability and I did not vote for it ..Or any of them he is as convincing as used loo roll .Being a healthy diet this man is a headache 🤕
like, right again
Missed the going around in circles pun if they didn't say it 😊.
Does Dimly wear a corset?
Imagine what Israel did when we couldn't see their crimes on our phones. Voting reform is like breaking up with tory, but you give her another chance because she said she was reformed.
A word on the creative industries - following Emily's enthusiasm to RS rhetoric on this matter. When the pandemic hit many of us had micro ltd companies, and got zero support. We kept eeking a living because furlough happened to everyone else. What we did get was targeted ads suggesting we retrain as a 'coder' or similar. The film industry is a £6bn service industry which funnels money out to largely US financiers, thanks to 14 years and more of poor tax incentives and low government support or interest in supporting British talent. The industry hasn't recovered from combination of pandemic and US strikes.... and I can confidently predict that most of us will be making a point of thanking the incumbent government, at the ballot box, personally.
The lies about being the best readers in the world... in English... you know, where the language originated... are spectacular.
he got his opening line wrong we had a proud past and then we had 14 years of the worst goverment in modern history and a very bleak future because of it im past not listening at this point the tories are non existent to me
He never delivers any hope…
The cabinet has ruined Cleverly. He used to be the quite(*quite*) likeable back bench MP, who'd pop on panel shows and was a bit of a laugh.
Scare politics and empty promises, I just wish they had a bit of dignity and just give up
Should of covertly filmed Brad Pitt, though obviously he’s no Jon Sopel 😅
Has Sunak penciled in the moving van yet? California or Mumbai a man of divided loyalties.
No one is interested in his bare faced lies anymore!!!!!!!!
Who?
You two look like stand-ins for Men In Black! 🤣 Otherwise a brilliant analysis. ❤
27:27 Maitlis 'sorry, not sorry' 😂
HE LIES so what can you believe
I stopped watching as soon as I heard James Cleverly open his mouth. I think that answers the question 'have people stopped listening?'
Depressingly, it's a case of most people opting for what they see as being the least poor from a duff choice. No wonder there is zero enthusiasm out there.
Woah. There's an abundance of enthusiasm for Labour in York Outer. Posters and signs in places I would never have imagined. Wow.
So much brain damage 😂
What's with the glasses😊
Sunny day.
He’s so unfathomably cringy.
He's off to the US next month.
Are you rocking the Monaco shades to give the film maker proposals something to work with? Politics is the new rock ‘n’ roll. 🤘
When the pint-sized liar talks I either turn the TV to another channel, or fast forward past him. Detest the Tories.
Sunak has missed his bus.
Also, the train, plane and automobile.
"I've been on the doorstep".
"No-one will actually speak to me, but I've been on plenty of doorsteps." O_o
Sponsored by what sunglasses?
"Is Britain still listening"? No. It's over! Enough is enough! 14 years! Another 5? Are you kidding? This is a dead parrot!
Nobody’s listening
He can’t even get his audio system right, feedback is horrible
Ok better sunglasses are needed...
Oh just go away Sunak.
No because "The money is not there"
Not many are listening to this out of touch party and leader 😂
He’s a whimp
No
The manifesto is a con
The audience are clapping Rishi not because they think what he's saying is inspiring - they're clapping because they're impressed he's got through a whole sentance without insulting or laughing in a voter's face for a change.
Yes Brexit
James Cleverly :"How many people voted for you in 2016? Oh, less than 52%? Thought so!"
I'm not voting labour again I'm voting reform. If labour win I'm done with this country, no more tax have my covid debt and f em.
Waitor
Why sunglasses???? In the middle of February!!!!!
Rockstars! Emily looks cool a. f.
Kier Starmer doesn't know the difference between an accusation and a conviction
Doesn't matter if that is true.
Rishi doesn't know what a conviction is. He`s never learned that concept. Kier`s not ideal. He`s a lawyer.
Labour at least seem competent. Tories are done.
the blues brother🥸 n sister😎. 🤭🥷🕉
James Cleverly is proof that nominative determinism is purely circumstancial.
Pmsl!
Couldn’t have put it better myself
Dear James Cleverly, if the voters are telling you that they are massively unimpressed with Labour, are they also telling you how much more unimpressed they are with the Conservatives?
also presumably IF he is talking to any voters, it is in safe Tory seats, surrounded by protection officers?
"You're asking people to judge you on your record. Isn't that the problem?" That was savage 😆
They keep repeating that claim of “the best readers in the western world”, and that’s also a lie. The PISA 2022 report (page 6) shows the UK is performing “above the OECD average” in reading, with a score of 494.
But this is still behind Ireland, Estonia, Canada, the US, New Zealand and Australia, if you go by “Western”. But also behind Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Macau and Hong Kong. That’s a rank of #13. Incidentally, the score of 494 is 10 points lower than the previous report of 2018.
Can someone please bring this up to them? This is another lie they’re getting away with.
Doubt they can read it mate
Their lies are neverending. I despise them because of this.
@@adamrichardson97 it was more of a “will someone bring this up to the tories?” than actually calling out the hosts 😅
Andrew Mitchell will lose in Sutton Coldfield.
29 minute podcast for this question.. just going to assume they say noooooooo for a really long time
Is anyone in Britain still able to stomach his fake, plummy accent?
Definition of gaslighting: "Forget the last 14 years, I'll change now, I promise."
14 years later and Cleverly drags up the "there is no money left" note which wasn't true and was just used as one of the excuses for the austerity of those 14 years which was just an excuse to decimate public services and the country.
I wondered how long it would be before the note popped up. Desperation 😂.
It's over. Done. Finished.
How about getting rid of Leasehold in England & Wales. Have been waiting for years. It will win my vote & many more votes. Flat buyers regret buying Leasehold properties due to the extra stress it comes with it. Get rid of leasehold & replace it with Commonhold.
Sunak is the very best remedy for insomnia.
Nevermind being in power for the past 14 years- they have been in power for 40 of the last 53 years. If they can't get it right after half a century they never will.
32 of 45

@@stephfoxwell4620 You're conveniently taking away the coalition years are you? So the Tories weren't in government? Revisionism 101
@@blazzz13 The Tories were in Government 1970-74, 1979-1997 and 2010-2024.
That is 36 of the last 54.
We are getting absolutely fed-up with these lying Tories who ignore their performance in the last 14 years and are now asking us to believe they are the path to a better future. The actual failures they are trying to address are to deal with their own failures NOT Labour. Their record is appalling. The youth of the future will judge Sunak, Cleverly and his cronies for their complete and utter failure and with any luck, the Conservative Party will become irrelevant as a political force for at least a generation!
Short and sweet no one is interested in what they have to say anymore
The tories are done for
For my sanity I hope so.
Brexit means Brexit.... feel the Sovereignty.
HahHaaaaHhaaaaa
Irony?
If they had any idea what they were doing, they'd of done it by now.
"Labour will be able to do whatever they want to our country" - it's disgusting how the the Tories really seem to believe that it is only they who should be able to do whatever they want with "their" country, and as if Labour are not actually british and not actually just as valid as leaders for this country. Them and Us. Division is the only card They play
Lawyers inside the Civil Service would tell you leaving the ECHR would break dozens of treaties.
I wouldn't waste the paper, Rishi.
Considering 8 pages of the 80 page manifesto are literally just a picture of a flag; I think waste might atually be an intended feature of it.
@@yeahsureimdownforthat1698 Reduce energy costs by burning the manifesto instead of buying fuel. Can't say they're not trying to help.
Get the tories out!!!!🙏🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻
Tory party are no longer just not granting the premise of an awkward question, they’re now ridiculing the questioner. Poor stuff.
You two are looking pretty cool out there with your shades in the sun! Secret agents!
