- This is a collaboration with the Rat of Mapping! Recently we have seen a lot of Videos like the one you are seeing now, but we thought most of them where quite lackluster, so we thought that we could do a better one.

This video came to be when Imperial and me watched some "Alternate Nation" videos just to see how laughably unrealistic or even random some of them were.
First we thought about writing comments, but we thought everyone would just be like "Oh yeah?! Why don't you do it better if you pretend to be so good?!"
Then we raised the question:"Wait, why don't we actually do it better?". And that's how this video idea was born.
We tried to give a cause and explanation to every divergence done in this video. Our goal was to try and make an Alternate Nations video that
was as "realistic" as possible. Of course, the further we progress in the timeline the more we run into an area of complete speculation.
Nontheless we attempted to make this scenario as plausible as possible, hopefully in contrast to all those other really unrealistic or
random Alternate Nations videos that currently are popular.

I am sorry for some mistakes I have noticed too late.
1. 03:09 Franz Josef, obviously. I tend to confuse both at times, sorry.
2. 07:05 Sorry for Nigeria joining two seconds too late. I worked on both Maps seperately and merged them into one file later on, so I must have missed this.
3. It appears that there are two different Fonts used in the Video. In fact it was shown to me as the same font, but apparently it is different on my Laptop. I didn't notice that one.
Well, in my experience, the replies you get for comments on those Alternate Nations videos usually go along the lines of "Did you read the title, you dumb fuck!?" I mean, there's a reason why they put those "This is not meant to be realistic" things at the beginning.

"This is Not factual history" would Work better, as an Alternate History can still be kinda realistic.

WOW! The best thing is, that all these personalities truly existed, and this alternate history isnt too unrealistic. The Nationalversammlung after the Napoleonic French collapse seeked to plant a new republican government in Germany. And two options were argued upon, the kleindeutsche Lösung, meaning a new government for a united Germany, and the großdeutsche Lösung, meaning a new government for a united Germany including German-Austria.
This is worth a like! Absolutely brilliant work!
And finally not something absolutely unrealistic and stupid

Not to sound like a jerk but the Großdeutschland Lösung would be including Prussia-Austria (along with the other smaller German states) since they were arguing for a solution before settling on one German solution. Austrians are just as German as the other states.

Nah The biggest Issue was Poland's Population being disregarded long term other than that its great (I mean from unless we were not informed of mass genocide there are alot of angry poles in German territory in 2018)

@@DivergencesofHistory there were almost no polish people in the areas Germany owned at the end. The areas had a vast German majority. Polish areas in the former German empire only existed in upper Silesia, near Kattowice, as well as in Poznan

I like the amount of thought you guys put into this alternative version of history. However I would like to point out 2 things I think are missing from your line of events:
1) because of its huge area, resource riches and population growth the USA and Russia were bound to be important players of the 20th century. Maybe not as much or in the same way as in real life. But they are missing in their influence of your Central European history.
2) you have an absolute monarchy reigning over the German Confederation for a good part of the 2nd half of the 20th century without much happening or much foreign intervention. I find that implausible with France and the UK watching from relatively closeby
But overall nonetheless a great thought experiment
I dont think the Germans would have ever given up their Kaiser if there were no lost world wars and all that shit. i mean we still have people who want to restore the throne and crown George Frederick of Prussia.
@@herbertlandschmid3012 I disagree. The 1848 revolution happened. And was violently crushed. A lot of democrats and liberals either fled e.g. to the US or went into internal exile, becoming apolitical . Germany also had enough potential for democracy.
First good german alt history scenario ive seen, most of the others are just wehraboo fantasies.
This should be made a hoi 4 mod
Another "good" one I've seen is where the Nazis are deposed and Hitler dies in a late 1930s German civil war (and most HOI4 players using the scenario have them all executed) and a bizarre chain of events follows that leads to the restoration of the Honhenzollern monarchy, usually Wilhelm III (Wilhelm II's son) or his sister Victoria. They in turn begin a campaign to purge Fascism and Communism from Europe. How exactly plausible this scenario would be in real life is of course debatable, but it's certainly a highly unusual and interesting outcome.

This is probably one of the best alternate history of [country] I've ever seen!
I must say, I didn’t read through all the events, but from what I could see, this was thought through very well. Typically these alternate history videos would go along the lines of;
“The German Kaiser sent some troops to a country. This made another country’s leader very mad, who declared war on Germany. A war happens and then it ends. Oh look how interesting the borders are now! Oh look, that capital is here now when in reality it’s over there! I’m very creative!”

There are some problems here: the first time Germany tries to unite, foreign countries intervene to stop this, which is accurate, because that's exactly what would have happened, and also what happened historically, but the second time, when Franz Josef unites Germany, nobody has anything to say about it? It's fair to assume that Russia, Italy, France and, maybe, the UK would have A LOT to say about this, since it changes drastically the power balance in the continent, and Italy claimed land that was owned by that version of the German Empire, which brings me to the second point I have a problem with: the way you made Germany and Italy have peace didn't make much sense to me, I mean, Franz Josef would have never handed over voluntarily such a significant amount of land for free. Then there is your version of ww1, where Italy decides to help Germany, even though it held the land whose ownership in our timeline made Italy decide not to help Austria-Hungary in ww1, and I honestly don't see any reason why that should change in this case. After that, the Great Mediterranean war seemed pretty random, but whatever, that's not as important. Ah, and we get it, you are from Frankfurt. Though I'd like to clarify that I'm not hating, I've absolutely loved all your other videos and I think you're by far the best in the mapping community
1. Well, the Second unification only worked because both Russia and France, the Nations that were most opposing towards the idea of a United Germany, were both just beaten by these Germans in a war, rendering them unable to object. Same thing happened in 1871 in our Timeline.
2. Italy was pretty content with the big gains it made during the war against France and was thus willing to Sacrifice Istria for the more lucrative German alliance. Franz Josef actually doing that is Another question, but I Think the Sacrifice of a territory Not even Part of the core Empire in favor for Peace on one front would have been convincing enough. Thats Speculation.
3. That lays the groundwork for the German Alliance in the Great War
4. The Great Mediterranean War was there to symbolize the lack of stability that lies within the European order. There was Never a Cold War, Never an EU, Never a NATO.
5. I am Not even from Frankfurt. Thats just the Place where the National Assembly went and One of the cultural Centers throughout German history, so it makes sense to choose it as capital. I am from Essen.

@@thealternatezeitgeist5950 1 Ok, you're absolutely right about France, my bad, but Russia was beaten 15 years earlier than the second German attempt at unification, that's a fairly good time to recover from a war. I mean, I'm mot saying that Russia would have surely won that, but they surely could have tried, and Italy would have had interests in helping Russia, because of the Italian land owned by the newborne German Empire. Also, the UK wouldn't have liked the birth of an absolutist empire on central Europe, and it's not unreasonable to assume that they would help Italy and Russia in that war. Again, maybe Germany would have won, but still, those countries would have been able to try and stop this reunification.
2 I absolutely agree with the fact that it would have been a smart move to give Venetia to Italy, because not only it would have significantly improved the relations between the 2 countries, but also, if anything happened later, the new border would have been much easier to defend for Germany. But yeah, the problem is that Franz Josef is doing this. I mean, he wasn't an idiot, that's for sure, he would understand why some people would cede Venetia, but he was the pure definition of imperialism, in our he didn't agree to cede land even during ww1, when that would have meant bringing Italy by their side of the war, which needles to say, would have been really helpful, and in that situation Italy would have even given a lot of money to Austria-Hungary for that. So yeah, I really don't think that Franz Josef would ever do that, it's just not him.
3 I think that you could have handled the alliances chain in a better way, for example the UK getting better relations with Germany is possible even with the absolutist form of government, I mean, in our timeline they did manage to get along with Russia, so this would be entirely possible. Also, Spain exists, and it's easy to assume that Germany could try to spread anti-French sentiment among the Spanish population for strategic reasons, that sentiment could be based on a possible dispute over the region of Rousillon (may have misspelled this, but whatever). And again, saying that Italy would just be content with the territorial gains in France is probably too weak a reason, irredentism was still strong in Italy at the time, and just giving up on taking land with an Italian majority wouldn't be seen well by most people in the country.

Now, I've read my first comment again, and I've noticed that it probably makes me look more critical than I intended to be, so I'll say it clearly now: even though I think that this video has got a few flaws, it's still leagues ahead of the huge majority of this kind of videos, what I meant to say is that, in my opinion, this wasn't as good as your usual 100% perfect videos

Other than that, the British knew that Germany would have Not been an absolute monarchy, as it was mainly established out of the pressure of the national-liberal movement. An absolute monarchy was not up to debate.

Honestly, bravo. With all the really shitty alternate timeline videos out there, this is definitely one of the truly great ones.
I'll be honest, I haven't watched a mapping video in a very long time, and especially not any German ones, considering in the past they've always been awful Protestant/Prussia wanks, but I was really genuinely amazed at how much I enjoyed this video. I was seriously excited at every turn, so hats off to you man.

Never in my life do I allow myself to be governed by a Habsburg, I even prefer today's Germany. I also found Prussia's role in this video to be rather weak. Prussia won against Austria, Denmark and France for a reason. They would never have let the Habsburgs rule them. They would have remained an independent state.

God I wish the Germany depicted in this video exists in real life. Such an interesting concept.
The only reason I see Austria not really joining Germany if treaties didn't bar them is because their culture is slightly different and it would possibly make them too powerful on the European continent.

Despite giving it a solid like to your own version of alternate German History, this scenario is weird from geopolitical stance. In this case, Germany is now a super-state. It controls the entirety of Central Europe and influences many other countries in it's sphere. Think about how this changes the balance of power in Europe. Germany no longer needs to compete about Central European dominance and is free to focus on other fronts, especially when its' reinforced by the Austrian and Czech Populations. When in your video the Russian Tsardom collapsed, Germany would be expending eastward. Taking back Czechia, parts of Poland and create a sphere of influence over the region. It makes no sense that Germany, a country that always desired to rule over these lands, isn't going to capitalize on this rare opportunity. In this scenario of Alternate history, Germany technically could create it's own "EU" and be a formidable rival to the British and the French. Considering how modernized Germany would be, and the fact that no Germanic and big international wars took place(Austrian and Prussian wars and the devastating effects over the German generations in the two world wars, where millions of young people died, basically ruining a future generation.), the population could potentially exceed 150 million( including the minorities in this German super-state.). Germany would posses Nuclear weapons, since it didn't have any foreign occupation and sanctions on itself. This would have such a giant impact in terms of global affairs. I really liked your work and the effort you put into it. I hope you would increase your realism in your future projects.
