ABOUT CARPOOL:
Carpool is an online show hosted by Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf, Scrapheap Challenge, Fully Charged), who gives a wide variety of passengers a lift in a hybrid or electric car and they talk. It's as simple as that. Previous guests include Stephen Fry, David Mitchell, Charlieissocoolike and Jim Jeffries.
Yeah! I LOVE the early sets! (Of course I love all of them but the early ones hold a special place in my heart :-)) Special effects budget was totally worth blowing on that iconic opening sequence! This may well be my favourite Car Pool ep. Rob Grant, "what a guy!"
brilliant! iv missed watching these :)
glad you asked the question about his feelings about series 7 onwards...
what a guy!
They were first talking with the BBC about it in '83 ?! Nearly straight off the back of the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The BBC were probably wary of doing another comedy sci-fi so soon?
Um...maybe they must’ve thought the premise was too dark for a sitcom...
You sound unsure.
Kelp Kelp I wasn’t born yet (March 10th, 1999)...plus I don’t work at the BBC, so I have no idea. Just guessing.
@LittleNerd Two other things to say 1) That cardi & T shirt combo really suit Bob and 2) You can't help wishing that Rob & Doug would get back together. It'd feel like your parents getting back together. Like status quo was restored in the world. *Sad little smile.*
Man, if only you knew 11 yeas later you would (kinda) get your wish
I love the grey everywhere submarine look.
Yeah it was a partnership, he's filled out enjoying life good for him!!! Nice man
Rob seems a great bloke, great show! But why are people ripping on Doug? He's kept the show going and both guys should be much loved imo.
i've never understood quite what naylor does
very gd point.
@@sidarthur8706 Naylor writes terrible episodes of Red Dwarf on his own. That's what he does.
Many thanks Rob. Great stuff.
Could you do a part 2 where you and Rob talk america? before its to late? it'd be another great etch in history :)
It's strange how Rob Grant's says here that he's the one who most cared about continuity yet I've seen videos where Doug Naylor says Doug's the one who most cares about continuity. They must mean continuity in different aspects from each other.
This CP is the only one I've seen so far, that I have not even considered the car and the program.. Totally engrossing.
In reference to 'it's like watching your ex wifes second honeymoon video' - i watched an episode of my ex wife on George Clarkes 'old house new home' - I laughed and laughed - - she was just the same - annoying people with her deviscive and decidedly inept indecision...and her new chap was just comedy genius dealing with it - good luck to him! Rob should watch it, it's clensing, to know it's the same - but not quite as good - I hope he has watched it by now. Come back Rob! Great interview by Rob, of Rob and a decent comment by... I wonder where they got the idea for 'comedians in cars' and 'carpool Karaoke'????? Hope they got royalties!
Why did you leave the show, Rob? You're such a brilliant writer. 😟
Did you not watch it 8)?
great!
Really interesting. is it embarrassing that it didn't realize the guy on the left is kryten till 5 mins in .
thank you !! : )
Really fun. RG is much lighter than DN. But both are interesting!
Red dwarf went to 💩 when rob left. Also when Ed bye left.
Series 1-6 is red dwarf. Anything after that lost the magic.
At first red dwarf was a clever sci fi with a sprinkling of comedy. After series 6 it became more and more of a comedy with a sprinkling of good sci fi writing.
The next release of red dwarf could by the greatest, funniest, innovative episode of any sitcoms EVER but there’s will still be people such as yourself saying “but it’s not as good as series 1-6”
Once it’s gone it’s gone. I want as much as I can get. If u don’t wanna watch it... don’t 🤷♂️
@@memyselfandi2506 "The next release of red dwarf could by the greatest, funniest, innovative episode of any sitcoms EVER"
impossible
@@TheJohnCooper 🤣thanks pal u just proved my point. What’s your favourite episode? Legion? Polymorph? WHEREVER it is, just imagine we lived in a parallel universe where that EXACT episode(word for word, scene for scene) was in series 10 instead. You would STILL say “that’s wasn’t as good as any of the episodes in 1-6. That’s cos u don’t ACTUALLY care about the quality of the episode. U only care about the nostalgia, being stubborn & saying “not as good as it used to be 😫”
@@memyselfandi2506 the best episode is gunman of the apocalypse.
@@TheJohnCooper 🤣thats completely subjective.the fact that you’re saying it like it’s an objective fact further shows that u r set in your ways. Most polls say Back To Reality. PERSONALLY I like Dimension Jump
BUT HEY for arguments sake I’m happy to say Gunmen of the Apocalypse is the best episode
And like I said...if we lived in a parallel universe where that EXACT episode of Gunmen was in series 10-12 you’d STILL say “not better than anything from series 1-6”
I wonder if, after 8 relatively successful seasons, plus the revival of Dr Who and spin offs such as Torchwood, the BBC have changed their mind a tad with regards to science fiction.
He's put on some beef
Why has the Chris Goodall one been pulled? Censoring?
Phenomenon... Do Doo Doo Do Do....Phenomenon... Do Do Do Do
what does Rob Grant give as his reason for splitting from Doug? i couldnt hear what he said.Musical differences? lol
tm4142 That is correct.
No gone to the high court
What are "Musical differences" ?
djmips When bands split, the clichéd reason cited is 'musical differences'.... Obviously Rob and Doug disagreed on the direction to take it.
Lmfao Lostfaith1980!!
@fimpkin4 having seen two shows being taped - the new series is on a par with series 3,4,5 IMHO
Yea...the BBC... No success at Sci-Fi at all: Quatermass, Dr. Who, Day of the Triffids, Blake's 7, The Prisoner, Sapphire and Steel
***** Damn. I thought they were BBC 2. Thanks for the correction though bud.
I never understand why programs are reliant on people who'd had a personality bypass and didn't know what comedy was. It's still going on, when you look at the level of detritus that's on offer by the bbc woke committee's club. It's painful. Red Dwarf, Goodness Gracious Me, Psychoville & The league of Gentlemen are about the best they've had on Auntie for 50 years. I have every series on hard disc. I often wondered if I should attend a roadshow or conference of the shows, if only to have a laugh at those go dedicatedly every time.
I truly miss Bab's Cabs from League of Gentlemen and Goodness Gracious Me!!
@Lostfaith1980 No no, you remember them and be well.
21:00 what you came here for 😛
If we can have " love island " there is space for " x wives honey moon night " great for commercial TV selling lawyer slots ...
That´s not the rob grant i was looking for, lol
Dad go to bed. :p
they haven't looked each other in the eye once
Yeah, his Red Dwarf book he wrote himself was pretty unfunny too
First ^_^
Thirty Three Thousand Nine Hundred And Eighty First ^_^
Only took ten years.
Nice guy.
