In my opinion, Blood Sweat and Tears is the most important mv in the past 20 years - it really expanded what an MV can be - the level of storytelling is unparalleled. The Japanese mv does a great job of connecting the themes from BS&T to the BTS storyline. As for the butterfly - think about the Butterfly effect. It is another piece of the storyline - that Jin is a time traveler (or travels between different realities). Omelas (a story where a small girl suffers so that a society can thrive) is another influence. In this case, in order for the others to be happy, Jin has to suffer. You see that theme pushed in other mvs (such as Euphoria, which would come later - which is a continuation of the song Butterfly (prologue). Thanks for tackling these sets of videos - in a way it's like approaching mvs for a master's thesis.

This is about temptation. All sorts of temptation. The allure of temptation as a poison and an intoxicant. The juxtaposition of black and white. So we have combinations of religious Greek and Jungian ideas and iconography. We have the quote from Damien. It srarts with the war in heaven and the fall of the rebel Angels. Jungkook suspended mid fall in front of icarus.
Fun fact ...was supposed to be Suga and Jin...but Suga wouldn't settle down lol...they got V to do it

I think the difference in height made the angle awkward, that's why they used V who is the same height and didn't have to reach up too much.

Read the book, Demian, by Hermann Hesse, 1919. It is the foundation of this video and much of BU. It has a lot of Jungian psychology in it. The video is loaded with great art and all kinds of physical symbolism, mythology, characters (based on the book), and activity. But my belief is if you are going to study something thoroughly, you start at the seed and roots -- the book.

this video was sofun on two levels, one is watching roscoe descend into madness while being surprisingly accurate, two is reading the unbothered chat talking about random topics while roscoe lost his mind, so entertaining, also i jumped in a couple of times during the live and it is funny having a thought and then seeing my comment expressing that same thought haha

The word Roscoe was trying to say is Abraxas, not Bacchus. Abraxas (in Herman Hesse’ book Damien) is an ancient God who contains both divine and satanic elements.

Thr bright colors are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black - Printing color setting which is different than RGB for the web. It's more 'permanent'.
Thank you for this reaction, Roscoe! Love your deep dives, so much into the detail. HOWEVER, sorry, you're off base tying in the Martha Graham quote that inspired Black Swan. BTS did not release Black Swan until 2020 in Map of the Soul. BST is a 2016 song. At the end of the Japanese version, Namjoon is not saying "Jino", he's saying "Jin Hyung". I think Namjoon is seeing Jin after a long absence, hence the surprise. I'm not spoilering, just sticking my nose in if there is an error and a correction is justified. Otherwise I'm just enjoying watching you put the pieces together. I may be wrong, but the bird seems to me like a phoenix-like image? Butterfly's wings quote - that's chaos theory. I'm rambling as well. You're reading the book? You should also look more into Herman Hesse and the themes of his writing. How the hell did they put this together? Well, a badass creative team, a couple of musical geniuses, one of them Mr. 148 IQ and a group dynamic that means members feed off each other's ideas (seen many times in their Run BTS and Gayo missions). That's why there will never be another BTS.
I have seen this video a thousand times but after the BU it is like seeing it from scratch, there are so many things that I could not have seen without the entire tour... wow

How deep are you trying to fall in to the BU? Seriously, where BTS is a rabbit hole, we've found that the BU is really like a wormhole. Once you get into the Notes 1 and Notes 2 and want to sort out all the tangled webs they weave, let us know. It's been our favorite past time for the last couple of years.

Back in the days, there was a fight between Jin and V, thay discussed like 10 min before going on the stage to perform. The japanese version reminded me this. I don´t know if the timing in right.... In the end, Jin apologized to V (like in the mv).

My opinion is it is and it isn't. In a way their inner demons and how they deal with it is kind of tied with Demian - but the Japanese MV is definitely tying in the song to the BTS storyline.

Not sure if you understood that Roscoe doesn't usually turn the chat off while he's live streaming; & he doesn't turn off comments here ever that I've seen; but he did it here, while he was live, so that no one would slip & comment live to him any info tabout Blood Sweat & Tears or the Bangtan Universe storyline's meaning, that'd give him answers or the meaning of the mv (in relation to the Bangtan Universe storyline). He does that 'cause he's wild about breaking down, decoding & figuring out what videos, songs even choreo is supposed to mean so he wanted to see what he could figure out without any other input, on his own, before he saw what any of us might type to him about the meaning; or before we told him if he was right or wrong. He doesn't want to know an ending before he's tried to organically figure it out on his own. So most of the time , 98% of the time, the chats are on and not turned off.
