- This song was made by a group based out of Friday Harbor, Washington after one of the ferries serving the Island, the M/V Elwha, hit undersea rocks after the captain intentionally went off-course to show off one of the passenger's homes on Grindstone Channel. Elwha on the Rocks is also the name of a cocktail, which unfortunately cannot be made today due to one of the two ingredients being discontinued for over thirty years.
Today, the M/V Elwha is retired from active State Ferry service and has been sold to a firm out of Everett, where she will be converted into a floating office. Considering the significance of this vessel to local history, I was surprised that the whole Elwha on the Rocks event, cocktail, and song haven't made their way onto RUclips, and as such I assumed they were lost media...
...Until I discovered two local articles, one containing the recipe of the cocktail and one containing an mp3 file of the song. Needless to say, they're online now.
I would have used one of my own photos, if it weren't for the minor hiccup of me not taking any photos of the Elwha when she was still in service, so I elected to use one in the Creative Commons. commons.wikime...
