      80's hair bands had a 10 year reign on the charts, it was time for something new. At this point rock was on it's way out anyway, with rap starting to take over the charts. I do not even think grunge lasted as long as disco. People can only take so much of self loathing and being depressed and miserable all the time.

    • @davebcf1231
      @davebcf1231 3 года назад +13

      This song isn't really about the industry. "Often asked to explain the meaning of the song that made him a household name, Cobain generally acknowledged that it was meant to be a call to arms. "It has revolutionary themes, but I don't really mean it in a militant [light]," he said in a fall 1991 interview. "The generation's apathy is getting out of hand. [I'm] pleading to the kids, 'Wake up!'"

      I took it as mocking the industry be he always did like when he wore the dress over his clothes to the award show and bc I read this
      To his eternal credit, Cobain saw the influence his music was having on mainstream culture and tried to stem the spread. He began refusing to play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" live, or "purposefully performing it sloppily, just to mess with the audiences he cynically saw as flocking to Nirvana shows just to hear that song while it was flavour of the month," Al Horner wrote for NME

    The phrase "smells like teen spirit" had been scrawled on the wall of his apartment by Katherine Hanna, the lead singer of the band Bikini Kill. "Cobain cited "Drain You" as one of his favorite compositions, telling David Fricke in a 1993 Rolling Stone interview that he thought it was as good, if not better, than the band's biggest hit, "Smells Like Teen Spirit. This is the genre called "Grunge". It started in the Seattle music scene in the early 90s.
    Kurt Cobain committed suicide in his Seattle mansion. Some say he was murdered. The story and facts are very murky indeed.

      Everytime I see Kurt I just want to go back in time and give him a hug and feed him some mac and cheese but that would have messed with the stomach🤷🏾‍♀💊

    The last verse is a heroin reference. I forget just why I taste, oh yeah I guess it makes me smile. Taste is slang for use.

    One thing that all timeless classic songs often seem to have in common is that they sound like a one-off,like nothing else.
