When I heard this hymn for the first time, it quickly became one of my favorite combinations of powerful lyrics and powerful melody. Knowing the story of Annie Flint also brings depth to the hymn, who, as a young woman, was diagnosed with what became a debilitating and ultimately crippling arthritis. From her grief and pain were born the lyrics to this hymn, and many others.
"Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

This brings me great comfort. Losing my husband on March 1, 2021, life have been more challenging than I ever dreamed possible...the loneliness of going to our marriage bed - alone; not having someone to share the joys as well as the sorrows...no one to help with decisions, with life...there is a reason God said to take care of the widows and fatherless...this helps. Also because of your comment in the description box, I went to go figure out who Annie Flint was and now I have a book of her poems on my lap as I write this, and I am trying not to cry my eyes out. I have an autoimmune disease and experience daily pain and increasing with time pain in my hands and back. I can't do things I used to be able too and I've been getting depressed. Now because of you I have a book of poems glorifying God written by a woman who knew pain intimately, and I am learning that a successful Christian doesn't always look like the over active woman who can just do everything in church, but they can also look like Annie, confined and suffering but giving glory to God and hope to multitudes, and so there is hope for me too.
I have this peace and life changing encouragement which changes the direction I was going because you sang this song and wrote that description. Thank you with all my heart ❤

The harmony is always great, but this was just outstanding. Emphasis and dynamics in just the right places.
Just five songs ago discovered this mans amazing, soothing voice. My dog is mostly deaf so I've been holding my laptop close to his one ear that can hear if spoken to loudly so he too can enjoy this beautiful voice. I'm in awe. So so soothing.
