IM A POOL GUY TOO! YOU USE A LOT MORE TOOLS AND GLOVES THAN I DO! GREAT VID! ....YO!
Great video. Noticed, you have a HFT sometime free multimeter :) It is small and light. I used it all the time to measure low voltage DC batteries. But I would feel hesitant using it often on 120V or 240V AC for the pumps. For that I would probably get something better fused and with larger gage of leads.
Ok
The chlorine & acid bottles are too close for comfort!!!!
I have about 30 pools. My truck is a Chevy Colorado and its a short bed. And I'm running out of room for my equipment. Looking to buy a small trailer.
Yeah, lots of guys have that problem. I spend a lot of time loading and unloading my truck each night for the next day. The good thing is when I bought my truck back in 2005 it was the new redesigned Frontier Crew Cab. The back seat can hold a ton of stuff. I can fit a box of eight 60 sq ft grids no problem. At one time I picked up three automatic cleaners and got the boxes to fit in the back seat- kind of ;). Plus I use the passenger seat also. I like the crew cab trucks for that reason. The bed in mine is short though, but I've learned to live with it. Lots of guys use full size trucks.
Nice video. Thank you for sharing.
nice vid. you're very well equipped, very professional. whats average yearly income like for a pool guy ?
do you ever have people stealing out of your open truck while your in the back at the pool ? is there some advantage to using a truck over an enclosed van etc. ?
You can make pretty good money if your full-time - anywhere from $50K-$80K a year. Sometimes stuff is taken but not often. A van is bad mainly because of the chemical fumes. Open bed is better,
50-80k sounds good. Thanks thats a good point about the fumes. Look forward to studying all your vids
so you make 50 to 80k around Los Angeles area is that profitable since its more expensive to live. I am from the central valley and 50 to 80 its decent over here but its cheaper than LA
TDS tester is a must...
Hi. Is it necessary to carry fire extinguisher in pool truck?
I believe so for a number of reasons - not the least if you carry Cal-Hypo which I sometimes do in the Summer as it is highly flammable (read the label). In a car accident it might come in very handy ;). Plus it makes you look like you are a cautious pool guy.
thanks for the video.......boss pool man
Can anyone help me. Trying to get my license to service pools n spa in California. But the requirements are 4 years prior experience??? Plz help
Cal T look into getting your CPO certificate , this will give you the basic knowledge in Chemestry and procedures. It also will allow you to service commercial pools like hotels, public pools exc.
Ever consider a Hammer-Head vac?
Yes I have considered it. Do you use one yourself?
I do and it has definitely changed the game for our company.
Sean Duncan I will have to give a Power Vac a try. Looks similar to the Hammer Head.
Riptide is my choice.
how many pools do you have?
Too many. About 105 accounts. No Commercial. I am bust, busy.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Im running 50 but Im a lot older than you.. Im in Santa Clarita....I was asking you about the pool cart. Ive been looking for a used on...still not sure if its right for me.
Bob
rawtry65 It's a little tough getting it on and off the back latch - even for me. Just sell your customers some automatic cleaners - that solves a lot of problems. I have 70-75 pools with automatic cleaners. Makes my job much easier.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 wow, you have 105 pools? Do you do any advertising? How did you get so many pools? How long have you been in the pool business?
+Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Hi(im not trying to be nosy but its going to look like it) How do you manage to do all 105 pools? Because don't pool guys go every week, so thats 15 pools a day every day, how do you do it?
my wife and I are looking to join the business...would you recommend a pool broker? we live in socal
Not right away. Why don't you start with a friend or neighbors pool and then after a month or two start to slowly expand. You will be surprised that when you start to go after accounts you will land them. There is just a lot of untapped business out there. You just have to market yourself specifically. Then after you have one year under your belt I would consider buying a small route. Working up from the bottom is in my opinion better, cheaper and much less risk.
is there a good start up cart for beginners you recommend? ive seen your riptide video and I've seen it before that well advertise but i think thats to expensive to start off wit, thank you for quick reply
Here is an article covering the basic equipment you will need and a parts list. Start with the basic stuff. The Riptide is a luxury item that is meant to save you time. If your just doing 5-6 pools a day it is not necessary. 20 pools, yes. poolmandave.blogspot.com/2016/12/starting-pool-route-basic-supply.html
you sir are the man, I'll be sure to ask you to join your liability insurance when we start up and running....hopefully sooner then later
What is the going rate for pool service guy (gal) to maintain or clean up a green pool?
$300 or more.
I start at $300 plus chemicals.
Who uses a canister and a leaf master in 2016 get a hammerhead or a power vac bro step up your game
There are a few components to starting up a cleaning business. One plan I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Ayalisse clean biz (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most helpful plan i've seen. Check out the interesting info.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER? AROUND POOLS? MAYBE FILLED WITH GAS? ...YO!
I need a multi Tork socket. Took me 45 minutes to take off a Hayward filter with 4 cartridges and put it back together. If you’re in the trade, invest in a socket set 😅
What’s a good email for you?
Came across one purple settlement in a pool today from a home owner who’s been dealing with this issue for months. He has contacted many chem stores and veterans of the trade and no one has seen it.
Would like to email you some photos

How does that pool cart attach to your truck?
There is a special hitch that they sell for it.
You wear the knee pads all day in your route? Do they bother you?
medina239ify I do. I switched to long pants Dockers that I get at thrift stores for $3-$4 and wear those for work. The knee pads fit comfortably over the slacks and don't bother me at all. You get used to them. They pay off too. Kneeing down all day - your knees take a beating. don't you see all the old timers limping around ;).
+medina239ify I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to uncover cleaning contracts for sale try Niposcu Cleaner Startup Adviser (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got excellent results with it.
0:13 I’ve found that it’s more effort to empty a canister than it is a pump basket.
You just run the risk of clogging up the skimmer line.
Saves time also the Pentair leaf canister holds about three to four pump baskets full of leaves and won’t clog skimmer throat
Hello David, I hope that you are doing okay. I have a question for you; I have a pool that uses Compu Pool (electronic automatic chlorinator), the pool size is about 4,000 gal and I am not sure how often salt needs to be added to the pool. I know that a bag of salt of 40 pounds will increase the salinity level to about 500 ppm. I know that Compu Pool needs to run in the range of 3,000 ppm. I imagine that fresh water, sun, etc will decrease the level of salt of the pool. What are your thoughts? Thank you in advance. Eric - Florida
By it's nature salt does not evaporate. So when to add salt is based on these factors. Splash out from swimming and use. Backwashing of the pool. And last large amounts of rain causing the water to become diluted. Large amounts equals 20 to 30 inches a year. This year in So Cal we had about 5 inches total. 90% of my pools did not need salt this year. A few needed one or two bags. Not sure how Florida was this year but under normal circumstances you don't need to recharge a salt pool much at all. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much man! You are the best!
Too many equipment. Here in Bali Will make u stucked in traffic. I prefer as less as i can. Less equipment more mobile you Will. Cause i have to clean at least 9 pools a day in many different places. So Scooter and some very basic equipment. And all my clients have a Cristal clear pools.
Scooter? That is so cool! It would be awesome with Los Angeles traffic here in the US. 👍
What year is the truck? Anything special about this specific truck, good mpg?
2005. Good gas mileage- about 20 miles per gallon - the power is exceptional - 270 hp. Overall reliable and a good choice for a service truck. Mine has 240,000 with a new engine installed at 210,000 miles.
I use the Dulla 2 cart and have it on all my trucks it's a big timer saver too. Can you let me know what type of Nitrile gloves you use and where to buy them? I have the ones for cold weather but just for everyday work would be good to use some form of glove? Are you able to get test strips out of the bottle and other stuff with out taking them on and off?
I get those gloves at Costco. They are really good and you can pick up 6 pairs for around $7.00. They last about three weeks and then start to form holes. They dry really quick between stops and I just drive with them on. Very comfortable also. I get the large size. You can find them in the gardening section of Costco.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Cool thanks for the advice. Your channel is very informative!
PoolStar llc No problem. Here are the gloves i use for sale on Amazon.com (they updated the style and made them even more durable) www.amazon.com/Wells-Lamont-Nitrile-Coated-Gloves/dp/B00HYH9OIG/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1398655444&sr=8-3-spell&keywords=lamonte+nitrile+gloves
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Lovely i just brought some i love Amazon Prime.
I live by your videos man. I am in the process of starting up my own pool cleaning business. Almost everything I know up to this point is all by studying your videos. Any tips for a soon to be newbie at this?
I got lots of tips. If your a hard worker and a people person you can do very well in this business. Those are the keys. Not cutting corners and providing excellent service. I also offer a service thru Patreon where I coach new guys one on one over the phone and thru texting, if your ever interested.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Contact info?
Just don’t be that guy when you get enough accounts to where you hire extra pool guys and bends the knee to the customers that call and say your guy didn’t do a good job just to get a week of credit or an extra cleaning before Friday
Were you a one-man army during the making of this video?
For all my videos. 👍
@@SPL Do you have a video on how you charge?
The Superman of pool cleaning
how much do you think it cost just for all the basic gear to start a pool cleaning/service business?
I am working on a video on that exact subject. E-mail me and I can give you a rundown since the video is not ready yet.
