    A clarification on Tip #1. I did not mean to imply you MUST enter your starting park for 30 minutes on a hopper before you are allowed to enter the other park after the 11 AM hopping time, only that if you choose to enter your starting park, be aware you must stay in there for at least 30 minutes before hopping to avoid Disneyland’s anti-fraud measures.
    This applies to re-entering the SAME park as well. Like, say, if you forgot your wallet at the hotel and had to run back.
    You can still get in, but you’ll have to jump through some hoops and get a supervisor involved to override the lock-out.

Even though I’ve been to Disneyland 9 previous times, it has been a while since my last visit in 2019 and so many little “givens” have changed since Covid! Coming from Australia means a lot of pre planning too! We ropedropped Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion, got straight in to Hainted Mansion and managed 2 rides with no line on Spalsh Mountain and by the time we did that there were big queues starting on both. Thanks for all your tips they really helped! We also did pay the extra lightening lane fee for Rise of the Risostance and we were glad we did. The others we did genie+ lightening lanes and managed to do Indiana Jones around 8.30pm which had a 60 minute wait at least throughout the day and no lightening lane availability but I kept checking regularly and eventually at 7.30pm they had the lightening lane open up so we hopped right in. Absolutely brilliant day but glad we only did 1 day and we did manage to do everything we liked in 1 day. Oh and we got in to Oga’s cantina by asking, the hostess wa super helpful however once inside the drinks were disappointing, they had no souvenir cups (for 2 months apparently) and we ordered a Jabba Juice which had boba balls in it but they served it with a regular straw so all the kids were unable to eat their boba which is a waste in my opinion.

    On our last trip, we had about 6 different ride breakdowns and many rides that were closed due to weather at various times. They actually had to evacuate everyone off one of the rides. We couldn’t rope drop the 3 biggest rides (individual LL rides) even if we had wanted to since all none of them were open at park opening, but that actually worked in our favor. We did eventually get to ride all of them, once they did open, and with only 20-25 minute waits. Same thing with Peter Pan (which had a huge line at rope drop) because we did other rides in Fantasyland first and then jumped in line when the wait dropped down to 20 minutes. We used the one of the breakdowns to get a multi experience LL pass to ride Alice in Wonderland with a five minute wait (which was super popular since it kept having to close for rain). The worst breakdown was the Finding Nemo ride which made the 15 minute posted wait nearly double (someone had dropped their keys in the water) 😔, but other than that, the breakdowns were pretty short and we were able to ride at another time or only had to wait 10-15 minutes longer than expected. Definitely more breakdowns than I ever experienced in the past, but we still had a great trip and did get to ride nearly everything.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад +1

      Glad you had a great time! I haven’t noticed it as much at DL, but over at DCA, if Radiator Springs Racers is closed first thing, the rest of the rides are double, sometimes triple their usual wait times first thing in the morning.
      That ride absorbs sooooooooo much of the crowd that it’s detrimental if it’s closed at rope drop.

  • @Cadetsc
    @Cadetsc 9 месяцев назад

    I personally like to get the popular ride over with first thing at rope drop. Then have rest of day to do whatever. I was at Dland this past Sunday, was done with Rise of the Resistance within the first 10 min of opening.
    I was solo though so no one to wait for or to slow me down

    Afternoon Traver, my girlfriend and I have been soaking up videos mostly from you, and also fresh baked, and provost pass for our one day adventure Tuesday June 27th. We are prepping by learning about the app, genie plus, how to navigate the day, reserving 60 days out for couple specific restaurants, the lockers, water stations etc. It has been quite a process. I appreciate your take on what to do & not do at rope drop. We have even made our own primary, secondary, and low priority lists thanks to you. If I don't do everything in galaxy edge I won't be able to bear it so im trying to steer away from roping drop that and do maybe pirates and haunted then maybe hit rise after. We will suck it up and do lightning lane because in late June I can't imagine the wait being shorter than what I see now (110 minute). And I fully expect breakdowns. What is the multi experience pass and how does that work with the LL for that? No way I'm waiting in stand by and chancing it not to break down.
    Sorry for the length,
    Wes

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад +1

      Rise of the Resistance is still a pretty decent wait at 9 AM. Most rides are. If you are going to get ILL for Rise, that would be a good plan.
      You could go do Smuggler’s Run around 9 AM after hitting some of the 5-minute wait rides from 8 AM to 9 AM.
      A multi experience pass is something Disney gives you when you already used your lightning lane but the ride breaks down on you.
      They’ll issue you a multi experience pass that you can use at any time throughout the day to ride the ride that broke OR any other ride of similar caliber.
      What I mean is that since Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s are “Individual Lightning Lane” attractions with a la carte costs, you can’t use a multi experience from Big Thunder Mountain on it. You could use it on Space Mountain or Haunted Mansion or virtually anything else but those two rides.
      However, if you receive one from Rise of the Resistance, you should be able to use it on Mickey and Minnie’s if you wanted, etc.

    • @wesgover261
      @wesgover261 Год назад

      Thanks traver. You're thorough response is most encouraging. I had already come to terms with the ILL for that ride. With just the one day, we are trying to cover all angles.
      Planning this far out allows for constant adjusting. We are staying at the element anaheim primarily for the breakfast. Will reach out with any further questions.

    Lots of helpful tips! For those of us who can't get to the park often, what is the best strategy to ensure we get on Rise of the Resistance? And Space Mountain?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад +1

      You can rope drop Space Mountain. That IS one of the rides where everyone goes, but it is a very fast ride first thing in the morning with very few lightning lanes, so it would take 15-20 minutes tops.
      I would definitely NOT rope drop Rise as that would absolutely kill your morning ride time.
      My best recommendation is to bite the bullet and buy individual lightning lanes for it. If the ride breaks down, you’ll get a multi-experience pass to come back later. If it breaks (which it often does) while you’re waiting in standby you either wait it out (40-60 minutes minimum) or you abandon the line and all that waiting up to that point was wasted.
      If you aren’t willing to get a Individual Lightning Lane for it, 9 AM is the second best time the whole day. Use the first hour to ride some 5 minute wait rides, then hop in line at 9.
      About 30-40% of the time, Rise has a lower wait time at 9 AM than it does at 8:15 AM.
      When you go will impact this as well. During Spring Break, it didn’t drop below 60 minutes at all over a two week period. So anything under 70 minutes was like “Go! Get in line!”
      But off season it routinely sits at 45 minutes (and rarely drops below that ever). If it’s less than 60 minutes (and after 9 AM) go hop in line. No questions asked.

      At this stage, it’s too early to answer that, but I would pack a small one just in case. One that doesn’t take up a lot of room.
      Looking at the weather right now, this is the first 10-day forecast without a single day of rain I’ve seen since December.
      I’m hopefully optimistic, but don’t want to jinx it. 😂
      I am sooooooo tired of the rain. It’s probably not a big deal to others. I used to live in PA and Pensacola FL, both places where rain is all but guaranteed daily.
      But I’ve been spoiled by SoCal weather these last few years enough to know this has been abnormally wet for us.

    Hi Traver!! Thanks so much for your videos !!! I know you mentioned they generally close down the haunted mansion the last week in august for the Halloween overlay which I didn’t even think about when I booked our trip !! 😩😩
    We are set to go the week of the 21st and I did this intentionally because I had read that w schools back in session and the weather being so warm is generally less busy? But now I’m worried about closed attractions 😩😩

    Thanks again!!! We really appreciate you!!

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад

      Unfortunately, it’ll probably be closed. Last year, Haunted Mansion was closed August 15th to September 1st. Halloween kicked off in Disneyland on September 2nd, 2022.
      We can expect a similar setup for this year. But no official dates have been released as of yet as far as I’m aware.
      That week IS generally a really great time to visit. It was always our chosen vacationing time before we moved here.
      Really, the only ride that’ll close for Halloween overlays is Haunted Mansion. it’s a small world just changes for Christmas, so it’s later in the year.
      That’s not to say they won’t have other refurbs at the time, but I can’t think of any usual or “planned” refurbs that take place at that time. Usually January and February is when the bulk of planned refurbs take place as that’s the off-season.

      If early entry is all you’re after, I don’t think so. You’re talking about 2x the hotel costs at a minimum, for an extra half hour (which is enough time for 1-2 rides at max).
      But if cost isn’t an issue, the onsite hotels have some other perks as well. Like seeing World of Color from your room if you stay at Pixar Place with a park view room.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad

      Any after hours event is going to be a little busier, especially 3 hours before the event because those people who have a ticket for that event can get in 3 hours before the park closes to regular guests.
      Since most of those events take place in the off season, it’s not going to be any worse than a fully packed Spring Break.
      The biggest downside is the loss of some night hours if you wanted to stay till close.
      At Disneyland, when it closes at 9 PM for something like Star Wars Nite, this isn’t so bad if you aren’t inclined to stay late anyway.
      For something like Oogie Boogie Bash that starts at 6 PM, the early close time is killer.
      The only thing with Grad Nite is that it’s at DCA, so there probably won’t be a World of Color that night. It starts at 9 PM, which DCA often closes at 9 PM anyway (lately it’s been 10 PM).

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад

      Oh, I should add Grad Nite is also a little different in that some ticket options allow access to the park all day long.
      But again, this isn’t going to be anywhere close to Spring Break crowd levels.
      All the Grad Nites are in what Disney considers a “shoulder” season between Spring Break and the official start of Summer which it deems somewhere around the middle of June.

      You can get exemptions for disabilities. I don’t know the exact details, but it probably had a colored tag attached that allows permission.
      Security is VERY good about not allowing banned items into the park. I’ve seen them turn wagons away before. So if it’s in the park, it’s almost certainly for a disability.

    How does reservations effect park hopping?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад

      You can park hop at 11 AM. It used to be, before reservations, that a park hopper meant you could choose either park and you could hop whenever. Go to Disneyland for an hour and hop to DCA at 9 AM or whatever.
      Now, you can’t go to the other park that you haven’t reserved until after 11 AM.
      This is actually a recent change in February. It was 1 PM for the last two years. So I’ll take 11 AM.

      @@MikeBirr Nope. Hop as many times as you like. The only stipulation is the one I mentioned in the video. You can’t scan into a park more than once every 30 minutes.

    So for night events, they make people leave ? How do they do that?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  9 месяцев назад

      All event guests have to wear wristbands. No wristband, no rides, no food. You could technically mill around the area. They don’t force you out, but you can’t get in line for anything and certain areas are blocked off by a line of cast members turning guests without wristbands away.

    We were surprised last Oct. when one of our nights had an "oogie Boogie" night. When I made the reservations in July, the dates were regular hours. We did not get any notice until we entered the park. Not happy about that, just because we made our reservations 4 months in advanced these nights should be pre-reserved and the notice (and hours for the fest.) should be on the website when people make their reservations and not surprised at a later date. Poor planning for Disney.

      You do. I witnessed a guy trying to re-enter DCA about two weeks ago and they wouldn’t let him in. He said he scanned in, but had to run back to the hotel to grab something. @@SoCalDisneyDad You don’t. I did it yesterday. I often go in the evening and I will book a reservation for DCA (so as to not take a Disneyland reservation someone else wants for the whole day) but go straight into Disneyland.
      What he experienced is Disney’s anti-fraud protection. If you go into one park you cannot enter into the other park (or reenter the first park) for at least half an hour (1 hour seems to be long enough, I’m still testing it). I was caught by this long before there were even reservations when I had to get something from a locker in the other park and, like you said, they had to get the supervisor to clear the “alarm”.
      I have heard that in WDW they have the 30 minute in your starting park, but I haven’t been there so I can’t attest to that myself.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad

      @@PorchPotatoMike Perhaps I worded it weird. I wasn’t meaning to imply that you HAD to go to your park first AFTER hopping time. (I get that if it’s like 4 PM, no need to first enter the other park for 30 minutes).
      I am assuming folks would want to capitalize on their ticket and go into their starting park.
      I just wanted them to be aware of the “fraud” measures so as not to think “oh, I’ll hop into DCA for a couple of minutes because it’s 10:45, then at 11 I’ll head over to Disneyland”
      And 30 minutes hasn’t elapsed and now they’re dealing with the inconvenience.
