- "Doctor Robert" is a song by The Beatles released on the album Revolver in the United Kingdom and on Yesterday and Today in the United States. The song was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was recorded in seven takes on 17 April 1966 with vocals overdubbed 19 April. Lennon said that he was Doctor Robert: "I was the one who carried all the pills on tour ... in the early days".

Revolver is a perfect album.
granted
Duh
Indeed!
One of their best albums, but would be perfect with Paperback Witer and Rain instead Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby.

Love this song, George is such an underrated guitarist. He had such a unique style.
Underrated by who?
He is a genius
I graduated from high school in 1966. Beatles fan since 1964. Saw them live in Cleveland.
I graduated that year, also.
My best buddy got the butcher shop cover version of the album before it was pulled.
Were you from Cleveland?
Nice
You must be the same class as the bionic woman
My mother and father had sex in high school in 1968, and I was born in 1969.. So we have something in common.
As with most Beatles compositions, this one really holds up! The not so subtle drug inference is palpable. John Lennon's genius comes through every note and lyric! Paul's backing vocals are superb as is George's lead guitar work. Over fifty years since the boys went their separate ways and no one has come close to their artistic heights!
Not to mention Ringo Starr's Drum 🥁 Fills was superb especially on the Revolver's Last Track #14 Tomorrow Never Knows.
Dr. Robert was based on two real doctors. One worked in England in the National health as a dentist. And he gave the Beatles their first dose of LSD in cups of coffee.
The second was actually named Dr. Robert. He worked into New York and was known for giving lots of celebrities his "happy shots" composed of Methadrine and Vitamins, and pretty much any other pharmaceutical product they wanted.
Amo esss musica
Not much to say but I agree
The production on this track is simply the greatest. The chime on those guitars!
yeah its 2019 but still works and sounds fresh.
Revolver was definitely ahead of its time just like the Beatles in general
Actually kids , Dr Robert wasn't a Robert or a bob he was A tim..Timothy leary , but thanks for playing ...I thought every Beatles fan knew who introduced Acid to the Beatles
@@MrBornbadd check Dr. Robert Freyman
He shot everybody in NY city from the Kennedys to Edie Sedgwick
Sorry Joe. Although the notion of the acid guru Tim Leary turning on tuning in and dropping out with the Beatles would make a great story it must remain fiction at least during the period Revolver was making the charts. Dr Robert actually refers to a high class high priced GP with an office in Manhattan who apparently operated one of the first pill mills!
just a humble display of genius of John
robert
I was only 1 when John died 😢wish he was still here
Grew up with the Beatles and Lennon was my favorite… I was in a small bar watching NFL Pats vs Dolphins when Howard Cosell broke the news I was in shock looked at the bartender and said give me four shots of J.D. Loved John he was cut down by a mad man . A genius the music he. would have made…..
Timeless!Such as amazing
album, had it on LP.The Beatles were way ahead of their time compared to other bands.
True I read that Jagger was in the studio when they recorded this. The Beatles were musical aliens flying through the universe
I didn't get Revolver until 1979, when this became one of my most played tunes. Great guitar sound; even now in 2018 I still love it!
Sin dudas...La mejor banda de la Historia del planeta Tierra.
Siempre preferí las baladas de los Beatles.
One of the Beatles most CHARMING tunes🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍🎸🎤🎤🔊🔊🔊

😮
man there's something about the intro that makes me feel like the coolest person in the world
Well, it's intended to make you a new and better man.
jeez the beatles were just so awe inspiring creative, innovative and cool. They had it all. Never to be equaled. We were truly blessed to have them
Never to be equaled-exactly-
This a great true rocker. Great lyrics and composition. Fun and tongue in cheek.
What a fucking great tune.
I have a dad whos name is Robert
He also happens to be a doctor :D
I love hearing this song makes me think of him everytime
Love The Beatles, they're atleast 3000 years ahead of their time!
+Miles52431 I don't get it. How can having a father named Dr. Robert remind you in any way of this tune?
macarthur19 I dunno, the tune reminds me of him tho
+macarthur19 Because the song is called Dr. Robert? How can that be any more straight forward? The song repeatedly says his fathers name.
great and nice photo
Me too bro 😁🖖
Well, well, well, youre feeling fine
well, well, well, hell make you, doctor robert.
+Daniel Higueras GRAMMAR!
Great song by The Beatles
One of the catchiest song of The Beatles song! Love it just wish there was a longer version of this gem.
my favorite song from Revolver.
Dr. Robert sounds like the original Dr. Feelgood. I love that "You'll pay money just to see yourself" line.
This was not on the U.S. Revolver release. I'm so glad I grew up during the golden age of rock.
nope it was on my Beatles 65 Lp as I recall
I heard this in my dreams. I woke up and immediately came here. Love this!!!
A melhor banda de ROCK N ROLL DA HISTÓRIA!!!
e isso ai Mateus!!!!!
Such a great song, with that beautiful ‘Byrds’ like guitar sound ringing throughout. I’d always thought Robert Fraser the 1960’s art gallery owner was Dr Robert’s ‘secret identity’.
This song " Doctor Robert" was also on the American album called " Yesterday...and today " which is really a pretty decent album also....
Love this song, love this album!
John Lennon's voice with his original guitar and amp here.( Helped by George/Paul 'perfect in-tune 12 string guitar too probably.) Incredible.
Acid Country music. Love it
After working in my school holidays in 1966 at 'Sketchley Dye Works' in Hinckley, I had sufficient funds to buy this LP, possibly, the best LP of the Beatles?
this and white are heaviest
5 people need a visit to Doctor Robert
Dan JL 36
Unfortunately 41😐
46 at the moment :D
wait what
this is something magical and supernatural or yes?
Beautiful and inspiring song I grow up with the Beatles music and songs
No band was ever as passionate with their music!
Thank you 🤔🙂👍
Ring my friend, I said you call Doctor Robert
Day or night he'll be there any time at all, Doctor Robert
Doctor Robert, you're a new and better man,
He helps you to understand
He does everything he can, Doctor Robert
If you're down he'll pick you up, Doctor Robert
Take a drink from his special cup, Doctor Robert
Doctor Robert, he's a man you must believe,
Helping everyone in need
No one can succeed like Doctor Robert
Well, well, well, you're feeling fine
Well, well, well, he'll make you ... Doctor Robert

I don't know about others but I love this song. Great riff, right?
GOOD
Superb album
ja genau !
"well well well" part is great
The best album of all the Times
Doctor Robert bounces brightly.
In the day I thought this was the throwaway song of the album. It sounds a bit better to me today.
Dr Robert is the 11th track on Side 2 of Revolver, which was released on 5 August 1966 in England. The album spent 34 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, reaching the number one spot on 13 August.

Masterpiece!
John and George, RIP.

Salve, maluco!

A Beatles number but with John's fingerprints all over it and not just the lyrics which are typical of John's thought processes.
robert
This might be my favorite Beatles song/recording/performance....
Lennon the chief protagonist on this one..
Lo máximo The Beatles....wow¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

The Sound of the Guitars is Special !!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Beatles!
Always one of my favorite "early" Beatles tunes . . . with this Coronavirus threat, we certainly could use 'Dr. Robert' !!!
Genios! ...eso nada mas...
I love everything about this song except the lyrics, but that was the era.
George’s guitar work is very tastefully and simple. No over playing.
In Revolver album, in each song , there was a new sound
And in only 2 was it bad. Incredible
My new shrink is named Robert. This song has been in my head since I talked to him yesterday.
Take a drink from the special cup. Great album!!
McCartney's discant - unbelievable !!!!!!!!! the Guitarsounds - no Words for it !!! Revolver = one of fifty Albums of Century
Ah yes, Rubber Soul II.
June 2008 - now. Great times I'd trade to be a teenager again in high school and listening to Beatles, Queen, Skynyrd and Stones etc. like this.
This song has such a great beat. Rock on, Ringo!
Dr. Robert refers to the dentist who introduced the Beatles to LSD..
Mark Stevens no it refers to Dr.Jacobson in NY who gave meth shots to artists, socialites and beautiful people including the Kennedys, Anais Nin, Edie and the lot
You mean Bob Dylan? 😂🤣
Yeah i herd it was adderall
Amphetamine actually
@@joeyrider --Jacobson treated JFK, Elvis and Marilyn but his first name was Max. More likely Dr. Robert Freymann who's mistreatment with meth and lying to cover it up is said to have killed poet Dylan Thomas who was an important influence on John Lennon and whose picture is on the Sgt. Pepper album.
Psychedelic masterpiece
One of the best Beatles records in my book..."He's a man,you must believe..." "well, well, he'll make you...".."Dr Robert.."

How sharp were the Beatles.
Astonishes me
Thank you!
Superb track - very punchy, with those great "well well well" breaks
John's style through and through.
He'll be there anytime at all!
que seria de esta vida sin "The Beatles" ellos son la inspiracion del mundo......
If The Rolling Stones covered this song it would sound just like "The Last Time."
its so nice that there so many "other" Beatles songs we can still enjoy and didn't become massive hits and corrupted by the big radio stations.
+moby boy no beatles song has ever been corrupted. they were classics then and classics now
+moby boy no beatles song after please please me was not a hit
I love so much Doctor Robert, and Doctor Robert, loves me
Docteur Robert

La pura verga John, Paul, George y Ringo, desde morro siempre escuchando, sin parar al cuarteto de Liverpool
I don’t know about Dr Robert, but this song picks me up
“Well, we’ll, WELL you’re fee he HEALING fine!”
dr robert
einfach nur gut hör ich gern mal besonders die stelle "well well well..."
Amazing what you can get away with in a two guitar chord pattern moved around on guitar neck if you happen to be The Beatles. LOL......great John song.
Increible cancion
Dr Robert,I think was a nickname in London for the MAN...a supplier of psychotropic “medicine” to the London Rock scene, during the swinging 60’s!
Dr Trebor ! great track.
John's hair kicks ass 🐺...
the last album where john ruled the band supreme
I had all the later albums by The Beatles, but I was not a fan of the rock and roll as a younger teenager. There were some songs on the blue (?) Album that I liked, and I thinks they came from this album. But I never bought it. Then, in the early 2000's I saw a documentary and I heard so many good songs I had never heard before! And the all came frm The Revolver album. As soon as I could, I bought it. In the mean time I gave learned to appreciate the early songs, too. Oh, and I named my daughter Julia. Although I have to admit I liked the sound of Imemine, but did not want her around and being bullied by all kinds of people and the meaning behind it also.
Great you should give a listen to Lennon’s solo music..So many great tunes.. “Mother”. “Working Class Hero” …..”Crippled Inside”… and many many more…John did So much great stuff that’s never heard. There’s so much take the time you’ll be glad you did..
@@Richard-mh5ll sure, I did miss on him, never heard of him, know none of of his Songs, was not aware that he got killed in Okt of 1981, etc - Irony off
But I am more of a George Fan, thanks
Top notch dr.
De très bons souvenirs
John Lennon seemed to completely change from say 'The Hard Day's Night' era of 1964 to the 'Give Peace a Chance' stuff of 1969.
my dads name is Robert and my moms name is Martha (martha my dear) no wonder I like the Beatles

+ogbkballa My name is Robert Martha!!
I hated my parents. Fortunately they're dead now.
Dosen't get any better.
Hearing this is almost criminal. One thinks of Billy Holiday and Judy Garland. A song of a Dr. Feelgood who pumped the Beatles with drugs to keep them functioning for performances. And nobody seems to link this to Lennon's addiction problems. And to this day, but for a few, nobody seems to realize what a toll drug abuse took on him.
great
Concioncita pop simpática.
Genial transición de beat a la psicodelia así se llama
Браво.
El comienzo mágico y misterios a la psicodelia que maravilla
Terrific harmonies ,1000 centuries ahead of his "tempo"
The Beatles are the best
I actually ATE an old Revolver album once. I also ate Electric Lady Land by Jimi H.
I won't be doing that again, even if I am really off my face. Even if someone else provides the vinyl. I don't have enough teeth left for one thing and it's a tragic waste of great work for another. 😐
Dr robert is the coolest man alive
Lennon needed fixing so he called Doc Robert.
this must have sound like it came from saturn in '66.
