Not 24 hours before the screening of Rember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story, the film's director, Denise Dowse, passed away. The EP, Ericka Nicole Malone, and Denise's sister, Tracie, with courage, upheld the agreement to come to the Black August Film Festival. Other cast members joined and they turned what was a very sad day, into a joyous evening.
