    You should thank God for having a wife willing to give you a helping hand on boat works in that way. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Stay safe.

    I just learned about the PYI PSS seals today. Thank you for the video, it seemed already difficult enough to crawl in there and you made the effort to document it! I like your idea of venting the air into the cockpit.

      Installing the pss was the best thing we did during the haul out for sure

    Well Camille deserves an extra ration of rum - what a amazing asset ;-) You too fella - I was feeling that torture around 6.28 - theres always some tight spot you just about convince yourself you can squeeze a hand - contorted, cant breathe, blood running to your head, hand going numb where some bit of junk is pinching a nerve under your armpit. Great memories - not... look forward to seeing her in the water. Cheers

      The unedited video of me fighting it for like 20 minutes in the lazarett is torture to watch, you feel me hahaha

    Was just working on PSS I put hose clamp behind collar , twist big screwdriver behind nut and tap soft other side with hammer , had to move clamp once.

    I just had to do that over again three month ago because believe it or not the prop shaft failed. The key way we used to secure the shaft to the transmission coupler failed and just broke way. Must have been a flaw in the steel. I was not happy. One little trick we came up with was to put a zinc on the inside to hold the drip less compression collar the three quarters of an inch distance. It really helped. We just left it on as a safe guard to hold the collar in place. Those four set screws on the collar never seemed all that secure to begin with. Plus an extra zinc is never going to hurt anything. Good luck. Btw your wife has a very nice rear end!!! You are probably going to Catch a bit of flack for that shot. Stay safe.

      That is a great idea about the zinc! I will keep that in mind! Yeah Camille is very well equipped in the stern department 😂

    This is the second PPS seal I'm looking at, the other was some pro's but I think I like your video more. Neither one of you mentioned using never seize so I'm wondering if that would help with nuts and other parts which might seize.

    Nice job you two. I've got the same job ahead of me as my cutlass packing is of an unknown age and has started to leak. The timing of your video is perfect. Now, if I can just find an affordable marina to put her on the hard at here in San Diego and that allows folks to work on their boats. I trust you would know if such a thing exists? Would I save substantial yard fees by sailing there to haul out in the same place you are in? I am new at all things to do with boats, yards, systems etc... any advice is appreciated. I'm buying you each a few beers. Truth be told you inspired me to get the boat I just bought in November over to Catalina 3 times since February solo. Your committent to offering your fans (and I am a fan) something more than than just that tired RUclips music heard constantly on other channels and pretty smiles is inspiring. Thx again.

    Hi guys great video i have the same set up PPS but it look 7 yr old r less but i was in high seas and engine a 4000 revs the water started coming in and scared the shite out of me as you could imagine but when i stop the engine i pumped the water out and run the engine under 2000 rev and it was ok but if you move that black bellow water spurts out would the grub screw need tighten on the solid chrome thingy?

    Dip the boot in water (not oil) - will slide over.. Water will dry after tightening clamps.

    Hey brother, how did you end up dealing with the vent hose on the shaft seal? Did you tee it into your outgoing raw water exhaust, or just run it out of the stern by itself?

    • @SailorJames
      @SailorJames  6 месяцев назад +1

      I just have the vent hose mounted inside the aft locker above the waterline

    • @Viralvid2024
      @Viralvid2024 6 месяцев назад

      @@SailorJames cool, that's how I did mine but wasn't sure if that would work because others say to tee it into the outgoing exhaust and that to me seems like another unnecessary leak point waiting to happen! I appreciate the help and response brother! Stay safe out there man

    Get tid of that ribbed thru hull hose nest to your engine. that shit is thin walled and will sink your boat. Buy the flush smooth bilge hose. It's thicker smooth on both sides. Or buy the black hose.
