You'll get far less bowing on your tables if you alternate the grain pattern of the wood. If all of the boards are facing the same way thats the way it'll bow. Smiles and frowns for the win!

My second coat if like this size I use a plastic come squeegee that leaves 2 mm gaps between everything and few mm thick I made mine from car wrap tool then cut teeth into it That way you get perfect level and amount then get clean paint brushe soft one and dap over it everywhere to break the lines this way it will dry like glass
This was really cool. You might think about doing some helium hits once in awhile or SF6 because your voice and cadence is too relaxing, but I'm glad I came across this video. Good on you for giving props to Blacktail.
At 6:53 you said that it reduces the ability for pest resistance, weather resistance, fire resistance, and UV resistance :-) Thank you for the information. I will start my son's desk next weekend and will use this technique.

How much epoxy per square foot did you wind up using for each coat (primer and flood)? I admit that I prefer a less burnt look, a light burning can really bring out the grain; but I can appreciate the full on torch.
I know this is a bit of a late down the road question, but is this table fire resistant? Would it tolerate a hot pot off the stove with no issue? trying to do something like this with a wooden serving platter so I can also wood burn before applying the epoxy to make a really cool finished product.

I bought one about a month or so ago. I was gonna sand my entire house with it due to there being very thick coats of paint on it! I would like to know if you have any tips for handling the sander, as I had a lot of trouble handling it.

I just make sure I always have two hands on the sander and apply firm even pressure. Obviously vertical surfaces are probably a bit harder to deal with so let me know if you are annoying any specific issues. Does it just start wobbling on you?
BYOT I have another question. I was considering buying the Bosch 5” dual speed orbital sander. Is that easier to handle by any chance? I heard it is perfect for heavy coatings removal.

In Japan the process is usually called 焼き杉 (yakisugi) meaning more or less "baked" or "charred" cedar. "Ban" just means "board". It's not quite this simple and involves brushing/sanding the loose ash and various techniques to get specific colors and textures. What you're doing is just burning the wood. Looks really cool under epoxy but it's not really Japanese.
Yake Sugi is the correct name. Calling it Shou Sugi ban is an insult to the craft. I had the privilege of watching these guys throwing sand down and rubbing it with a roll of leather to remove the chars, using a hash up of Chinese is an insult to this Japanese craft.

I thought it might be worth noting that i looked up some hazards on linked in and it turns out there are quite a few. It apperently also weakens the structural integrety of the deck over time through a very interest process while burning the wood. I would advise anyone to look into this first before building a deck.

How did you get it to where it wasn't any dust that was stuck on the top of the table?
