Hey Shawn, just wanted to write to let you know that I passed my Linux+ today. I only made it about halfway through your playlist, but it was definitely a big help and I wish you nothing but the best in continuing this series. Great information, great delivery.
what resources did you use?
@@birdistheword005 CompTIA certmaster practice, itprotv playlist, this playlist, I had two Linux courses in uni ~5 years ago, and I've been daily driving Linux for ~4 years.
Hi Shawn, this week i past my Linux+ certification. I just wanna say thanks a lot for you're video's. It helpt me tremendously. The quality of you're video's are great. Thanks a lot and on to the next!
Shawn, kudos to you for making such a nicely produced series! Awesome work!
Thank you so much for this free course...it means a lot to me and more power and good health to you Sir!!
THX^2 Shawn ... Passed Linux+ today partly do to you. Your 'stream of consciousness' vids really helped me nail a number of questions on the exam. And generally gave me a better understanding of a number of Linux topics.
That's great! Congratulations.
What was your process? What study material did you use and how did you find the exam?
I used the Comptia Lunix+ material@@JeanD88
Hi Shawn, the livestreams sound like a great idea! Especially something like study sessions for Linux+!! I am wicked excited for this!!
Cool! I'll have to look at what my former coworkers did with their live study sessions, I've never done that myself. Thanks!
Feeling very elite right now, super happy to see you doing this course Shawn, thank you!
w00t!! Thank YOU!
im excited about any series you do shawn, i dont exactly need this cert right now but i love your playlists so much that i will begin this cert so i can add this cert to my resume when i see you finished this playlist
Beautiful Introductory video - privilegded to part of the elite few 🔥
Can't wait for the series! I know back when i was doing security+ Professor Messor did live practice test questions which ideally helped. Maybe something behind that nature? Either way I've been following after you helped me pass the linux essentials. Really Enjoy your content. Till next time =)
Very cool, and thank you!
Just started this series. Really appreciate the content bro. Stay kind!
Thank you for this course i am going to start on this journey, so, having found a course like this is amazing!
Wonderful!
I have my Linux + scheduled for next month and I love your training videos. Thanks for the help Shawn!
Nice! I don't think my current series will be done in time for your exam, and I apologize for that -- but maybe after you take the exam, you could come back and give folks pointers in the comments on various topics... You obviously don't have to, but that insight would be invaluable for other folks preparing. :)
@@shawnp0wers I took and passed my exam today, I think that as long as you are comfortable enough in Linux to identify things that are not real options on the command line you should be able to pass it.
@@huntercarroll9496 how long did it take you to prepare for linux+?
Love your courses Shawn, Gonna see if I can pass the Linux+ using only these!
NICE! I'll try to get through the material asap!
Fantastic video Shawn, I am working on my Linux + right now and plan to follow your series. I have been using the IT Pro's TV labs to help me out! Your content is such a strong adition, please keep it up, keep up the energy, and let's cross the finish line.
Also - I would definitely vote for a live stream, once every 2 weeks or a month!
Thank you! And we've settled on weekly livestreams on Sunday afternoons... So far it's been really fun!
You’re the best! Thank you for working on this.
Did you actually?
Thanks this is great that you are going this for the IT community!
Thank you! I can't wait until I get it finished!
So excited for this course!
Not gonna lie, me too! :D
Great Stuff going the all your videos on this play list, FREE knowledge.. Respect . .
You're cool buddy, I believe I'll be watching your whole content these months
Comptia A+ Core 2
Comptia Networking+
Comptia Security+
Comptia Linux+
Besides browsing the web.
I'm really excite thank you.
This is great
Livestreams would be awesome. +1 for that idea.
Cool, thank you. I'll figure out a schedule asap! :)
Hi Shawn. Studying CCNA ATM.. Debian is my daily driver and decided I might as well get my Linux cert finally given my past experience.
PS. You're awesome👍
Cool! And welcome! I've been teaching linux for decades now, and I *still* learn things along the way.
PS: Thank you! :D
Verry exited, Ubuntu Mate is my favorite:)
Mine too!
One whole year later... he STILL didn't delete the intro.
hello shawn 😃, first of all, am super pumped for the series, Thanks alot, 2nd of all, do you typically go for managed databases when deploying production apps or you manage databases by yourself cause i've seen your video on backing up databases, if the latter is true, why is that? and lastly, do you work with the cloud, Aws etc or on prem infrastructure? thanks alot 🤝
Most of my "production apps" are for my individual use (and hosting my own websites, etc) -- so I do generally host my own databases.
I don't use cloud services for very much personally, all of my stuff is in my tiny little datacenter at my farm. (That said, I have a VPS running as a secondary mail server)
This is great. I'm interested in getting certified. Which books do you recommend for studying?
Shawn powers looks like a super advanced colourful holograph most of the time 🤙🥳
THEY’RE ON TO ME! 😜
Hi Shawn,
Never knew that you are on RUclips !
I am currently studying on CBT Nuggets your Linux+ XK-004 course and planning to take the exam. Now since the XK-005 exam came out, do you think that the CBT Nuggets XK-004 course will be enough to take the XK-005 exam ? Or shall I stick to the XK-004 exam ? Or maybe better migrate from CBT Nuggets to your channel here :)
Anyways, thanks for the sharing the knowledge and the great content as always !
Sorry for the late response. The content I created for CBT will get you most of the way to the XK-005 objectives. I'm not with CBT anymore, so I'm not sure if they're doing a revision with another trainer or not. The advantage of the CBT course is that it's complete. :D Since I'm only making training in the evenings after work, it's taking me a long time to get the course complete. Whichever exam you go with, welcome to my only current source of training!
So Cool... Just got the CompTIA Linux+ book from Sybex. So hope this course will help me to. I will diff follow.
Live stream sounds great.
Nice! Let us know what you think of the book too...
How is the book for study material? I am looking for something good to read into for the exam.
Hello Shawn, I just want say thank you for making this course free in the first place also I have some questions about the course... what is the expected time to finish all the videos? also is it enough to pass the exam? again thank you so much for shearing those valuable informations >> sorry if i misspelled some words (English is my second language) شكرا ❤
Thank you so much, Shawn, for your amazing contribution! What about adding a task list and creating an operational story for the lesson (I know it's huge, but it will help people connect it to a real story and feel it hands-on)?
That is a good idea, and I thought writing a companion book to go along with the course might make sense too. There are plenty of Linux+ books out there, but I thought one I could interweave with a video course would be unique and beneficial. What do you think?
@shawnp0wers Hi Shawn, sorry for the late response. That sounds great! Suppose you can interweave one of those books that tell the story of a system as a virtual small system that we can use as a project built in every lesson (or almost every lesson). In that case, it will be awesome and give us practical recognition (personal and external), and can also be used to acknowledge that we are on the right path and have some experience.
Greetings Shawn, any timeline when the series are going to be released? Can't wait for this course to be a reality. Thank you for all you do sir.
Still working on it. This channel is still an "after my dayjob" project, so it's been a slow process. Hopefully someday I'll be able to do it full time, and produce a bit more regularly.
@Shawn what would you recommend for folks with some linux experience that just need to determine their weak spots and zoom in on them via your specific videos and other training resources? Thanks
yea. the live stream would be awesome. once a week
Shawn Powers, you make awesome videos. I love your enjoyable teaching style. Will you be planning an RHCSA series?
Omg this would be amazingggg. You're great Shawn, you know how to keep your audience tuned in. Think about RHCSA it's so needed ❤
I’m not sure what is next, and with Redhat’s latest licensing stuff, I’m not sure what the training landscape will look like. But lots of people have been asking, so… maybe? :)
I am so happy to be elite!!
lol!
I'm working on my linux comptia , do you do study groups too, and what other courses you have ?
I'm coming on late and don't know if you have done anything live yet, but can you schedule them in advance so we can prepare for one. Please and thank you! 😊
Well, I've done a couple livestreams, but they haven't been Linux-specific. There is another livestream scheduled for the Sunday a little over a week from today. (I'm out of town this Sunday, so I had to skip this week)
The plan is to have livestreams on Sunday afternoons, Eastern time here in the US. I'm still learning how to best use the time during the livestream, and I'm always open for thoughts. Perhaps I'll make a channel on the Discord (snar.co/discord) -- so people can help me plan them...
i am doing same thing just ordered the books
Nice! Good luck!!
I am coming RUclips just for your videos now
That's incredibly kind. I'll do my best to make the videos worthwhile!!!
when will the series be done?
Will this course be finished soon? It looks like it’s been a few months since the last video and there’s a least two more objectives that haven’t been touched… Everything so far as been very helpful!
Yeah. Life has just been a kick in the shorts lately. Lost job, new job, and today found out my wife has to go in for a 3rd surgery on Tuesday, with a 3-4 month recovery. I’m ready for 2024 to be over, and it’s barely February.
But yes - I will finish it asap. :)
@@shawnp0wers Take your time and we understand! Life does give us those kicks, I pray the rest of the year can smooth out and your wife recovers well!
Hey Shawn,
Is this playlist still "in progress"?
Thanks!
Notifications are on
You’re awesome!
If I have Ubuntu already installed on my VMware Workstation, do I need to get Ubuntu Mate? What's the difference? Thanks!!
is this a full course for preparing the linux+ exam ?
Hello, when are you expecting to finish this series?
I’m working on it. I don’t have a date, but I’m hoping to actually record some video after the livestream today. So it should resume progress this week.
You have to show us first of all how you installed those programs called ubuntu mate and rocky, and I want to ask you something.... is any distrebution it will work ???
I think I talked about installing virtual machines in the Linux Essentials playlist (on this channel) -- but the reason I use Rocky is that it's a free version of RedHat. And most certs expect you to know how to do things on several different distributions, so I try to cover the most popular.
@@shawnp0wers Ok I got it thanks, so what do you think about Centos, it is a free version of Redhat as well, and I am comfortable with it. Because it is very secure and there are many popular companies based on it in its business like Google, RUclips, Juniper, and others companies.
Is this finish on hold for good? Or I’m using an old playlist?
I’m still adding to it. Latest was 5 days ago…
use debian and qemu vnc over ssh and r proxy with wwireguard - works gud
I'm a huge wireguard fan too. So simple. So efficient. :)
should i get linux+ first or linux essentials? i already have security+
So, if Linux+ isn’t confusing, start there. If it feels like you’re lost, start with essentials. That’s my advice anyway.
Anyone have the steps to setup RD Tabs to work with VirtualBox? I tried looking it up but was not able to find any clear cut instructions. Running it on Windows 10 Pro. Have Cent OS Stream, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu. Any information and/or guidance is greatly appreicated. Thank you, Joel
Disregard, I was able to figure it out but it seems pretty slow navigating the VM remotely.
These certifications are only good if you are jobless and eagerly trying to get one. These certs might help you to get shortlisted. I agree with Shawn that LPIC3 is not a good investment until your employer reimburse the fee for you or you get a hike as you gain the cert.

Don't do the CompTIA Linux+ training course ONLINE. It's format is all a question and answer type model. NO Teaching! I am having an very difficult time trying to get my money back. I haven't even opened the vouchers. CompTIA is a company , I've recently learned the hard way that is all about the automation of (poor) training in my opinion - and the money. Their support SUCKS. Don't pick CompTIA for learning! My opinion - go elsewhere! Glad your here to teach others Shawn! The Online course is a farse!
so in this playlist there is a complete course to linux+?
