I played FF11 for, like, 2 years back in the day and I still have no idea how the crafting/gathering/gardening system really worked... But all those theories brought back some memories.
And dying in 11 really sucked. There was a guy that I quit playing with and got booted from our LS because he pulled too big while I was trying to power-level him and he got me killed multiple times.

I remember I created a human character in classic era around the time TBC classic launched, just to look around out of curiosity. I was the only toon in or around Northshire Abbey. That is the only time that has ever happened to me, in any version of the game.

Oh I remember raiding in a guild where DPS was the main consideration.
So basically on the second boss of our very first raid night a BIS 2h mace drops. And it is given to the top Paladin who leads DPS by 3-5% against other mace users. On the third boss he leads by 10%, and is given another item.
By the end of the first evening, with everything but the last boss killed in Normal, he is almost fully geared. And the Raid Leader openly complains that out Paladins are kind of weak because only thig guy can do any kind of damage (+25% at this point)

For the FF11 story if you farmed all the mats and the crafter just had to hit a button then the guild has 0 reason to complain or call it the guilds loot. If they helped him farm it its still his loot but I can see why they'd be mad even if it was so over the top. The author took his anger out on the wrong person though he should be mad at the guild, himself, or both not the guy for buying the thing months ago wtf lol

Ff11 was the grindiest but best fucking game ever in its prime of 75 era. Gear really meant something and there were a few who had relic weapons that whole guilds would grind a year and a half for usually for their guildmaster. (Yes a guild grinding a weapon for 1 person that takes a year and a half)

@@m.b.7560 nowadays it does. Back then the culture and community was amazing and we all valued helping each other since you couldn’t do anything solo. And since everyone knew each other you had a reputation. It was an era of gaming I miss and anyone that played it back then will tell you it was their best mmo experience

If a guild helps you get Thunderfury and you vendor it....

    • @HealingBlight
      @HealingBlight 3 месяца назад +1

And grind your own Thunderfury as soon as possible without them noticing until later on. Kind of an important detail.

Story 2 regarding the dps meter: "Holy shit this guy's missing a leg! But this guy has two perfectly working legs... I suppose the prosthetic leg goes to old ten toes over here, hell be much more efficient with 3 legs instead of just the two."

Nah not guild loot. Those materials weren't that rare, multiple endgame enemies dropped them, it was common to sell them to fund other items. The +1 was just a happy accident and the crafter needed to say if they had any personal rules before it happened (including the flat ~5% fail rate where you lose the materials, I'm guessing it was not a free refund if that happened).
If it was a relic weapon though - they needed the cooperation of the whole guild to make - many runs, a lot of currency (more than most solo players could make), and bosses to kill. The group would often pick one to invest in to make the whole group stronger, but that's different since everyone knows it going in.

For starters I would’ve told that guild where to shove it. Secondly if I were the guy with the branded chest I’d never trade it back and purposely find the author to dance around him with nothing but the chest piece on taunting him

The FF11 story everyone in that linkshell could fuck off and id sell that item again just to spite them xD
EDIT: I should have waited till the end of that story because holy crap that story made me mad and the fact that he bullied a guy into a different server etc. just makes me hate the author so much.

In the first story everyone is wrong. The guild was wrong for making a big deal about the armor, the author was wrong for harassing the dude, and the dude was wrong for not trading an item for the same item. It literally gained the guy nothing by keeping it, no stats, no visual difference, he wasn’t losing anything (he was getting the same item). All of them are guilty and unreasonable.

I would’ve charged a large fee to trade it back. Nothing is free

FFXI had very poor item optimization. Case an Point, 99% of the players would still be lvl70 an still be using the basic lvl60 relic gear. You could get good gear, but it required alot of mats to grind for an alot of gil that was pretty hard to come. This game, was not made for the casual player, everything required time, an if you didnt have the time, you never would get anywhere.
Now just to say the end mass raids of Dynamis of 40 people (I think), you could get your relic weapon. To fully upgrade that (back when I played) would literally take you 3 years or more to complete because EVERYONE needed the currency an it usually was split between the tanks>Healers>Dps depending on what the guild needed.
If you plan on playing FFXI, Id suggest go full streamer privilege an get yourself carried, because if its anything like i remembered, your in for one sloooooooooooow leveling experience.
