I don't know what to say about this song.I heard it only a year ago but it takes me back my childhood home.We lived happily with my family together.I remember those times with tears in my eyes
Best country video EVER. In the 1980s no one was better. Truly one of the greatest and most innovative country singers of my lifetime. May he rest in peace.
In 1993 or 94 he was a featured act at the Collier County fair in Florida. It was cold and raining steady. The stage wasn't covered. Earl Thomas was half dead with a cold/flu. Maybe 30 people were at first show. He sang his heart out, couldn't hit most notes. His next show, raining harder. He stepped on stage, sang his heart out to maybe 10 people. My new bride asked why I'm going back into the rain again. I told her she could take cover, I'm sitting in the rain to show support for a man too sick to be out of bed doing 2 shows in the rain to very small audiences because that's who he is. This just made me a bigger fan of his.
This one gives me goosebumps, and reminds me of the best of times and the worst of times. No one sings the songs that really mean something like the old time country songwriters and singers. May they rest easy.
I talked to Earl briefly on late nite 80s radio. He told me he wrote this song about his grandfather. In the 80s no one was bigger than Earl Thomas Conley.
R.I.P~E.T. Conley, you were among the best of the best. An era slowly coming to a close as more greats have and will be added to the list of deeply missed.
ETC, Many of us remember that you wrote this song in memory of your Grandfather. Today --October 17, 2024-- is your day. Like others, I still recall the country music you left behind for me to treasure and to pass on to another generation to appreciate and to enjoy. GOD BLESS YOU. Have a Heavenly Happy Birthday!
For several decades I held back tears as I listened to this song and thought of my grandfather who lived to be 100. Now, I realize the subject of this song has changed to me!
I cry everytime I hear this song & watch this music video. Earl Thomas Conlee was a big part of my life in my teenage years in the 80s. I saw him in 1984 in Pensacola Fl when he opened for Hank Williams Jr. Loved him ever since. Much love from Mobile Alabama.
My 2'nd daughter, 11 now, loves 80's country. She takes after her Daddy. She plays it nightly on I HEART, as I do. Classic Country will never die. We just need more radio stations to play those great songs. R.I.P E.T.C..
Sonny F. As a close member of the this song is my all time favorite because it was written about our Grandpa!!! Love and miss Earl more than I can say!!!!
I have the faith in God knowing that you are enjoying a new life now Earl but wish you could have stayed around and kept the good country music going. Thank you for all the great songs and friendships you built over the years. Rest now and enjoy what God had waiting for you....
Simply the best! I lost my 84 year old aunt and uncle within 3 weeks of one another. Imagine what their children must be feeling. Something is lost here everyday. Character, morals, values..lost with each and every one of them
This song and video brings back so many childhood memories. Thanks for the great music and memories, Earl. Glad I got to see you and shake your hand once in this lifetime. Hope I get to see you in the next.
You're definitely were the best I missed you and your music rest in peace my friend. God bless you always say ride along with me and listen to Earl Thomas Conley. 80s was a good old days
"Crowd Around The Corner" Those stormy years leave deep and endless trails across his face He'll wander back when morning rolls around For it's an old man's right to spend his life just searching for a place Where he can sit and watch the sun go down Time's run it's course and freed the horse that pulled him through his prime And placed a different light above his brow Now towering rows of buildings grow in fields he left behind And life seems twice as heavy as a plow With his golden chain the old man clings to the watch inside his vest That tells him when it's time to move along Just rambling through the avenues, he'll sometimes stop to rest But it's hard to find a place where he belongs So crowd around the corner, boys, and take your good old time And pass along a piece of yesterday A tender breeze of memories is blowing through your mind Softer than those stands of silver-gray And sweeter than the things we've seen today
I’m crying I’ve always loved Earl Thomas Conley but I never really watch this video so intently and notice the old man sneaking off to smoke a joint this reminds me of my dad who passed away God bless those who have God
Yes it's a rolled cigarette. I cry everytime I watch this video cuz my dad would take me to the farmer's hangout in Walkertown North Carolina when I was 3 years old all the way up till I was 18 and I would learn from the older men my dad's friends were my friends . That's why this video touches me so deeply😢😢 because that little kid reminds me of me sitting there talking and learning for the older men that's exactly the way it was for me. I miss all those older men they were my best friends better than the friends my own age. It was like having an extended family.
*Those old smoky pool halls have become a thing of the past, and so are are all the great musicians. They are slowly leaving us. Gosh...I sure do miss those by gone days. Rest easy big guy. We are surely gonna miss you. Till we meet again on the other side.*
I've liked most of ETC's work back through the years. This special song always moves me, as very few others do. Naturally, it didn't sell especially well during its day, but the public taste is so often little more than garbage. His soul was having a tenderhearted moment when he wrote this. America hates all things that don't turn a profit for the coddled corporate world, and among those things are its old people. This song to me represents a beautiful moment of the heart. ETC also touched deep feelings in me when he wrote "Too Many Times" and performed it with Anita Pointer. I think I'll take my old bones and go listen to that song now.........
No video makes me tear up like this one. My dad is a huge ETC fan. Earl was from Ohio ( my dad and I are, too ) I remember telling my dad that I didn't like it in the video when that guy got a stomach ache :(.
Heeyyy. I grew up with this Shit!!! Awesome song and did not think it was gonna be one of the best songs of my life. Haha I am happy and proud to be the 100 comment deal. Lol Enjoy it. Music is the soundtrack of our lives.
Then. The Highway Men..""Desperados Waiting For a Train.' ". We have lost a lot of yesterdays and seem to be dull in our senses bc of the civil and social issues.. ..can't we at least spend 15 minutes on what really matters? Matters of the heart..a real heart..
This song is so beautiful.
In the 1980’s I saw my grandfather in this video, now 40 years later I see myself. Thanks ETC for the most unforgettable video/song of my life.
This song is pure poetry. When I was a kid I used to watch the video on CMT and cried every time. 😢
I COULD NOT HAVE SAID THIS BETTER!!! 😢
Nor could I....Love this man and his beautiful country voice!
Did Earl Thomas die?
Yes, Nancy DeLoach, he did😭. I believe it was in 2019, but could have been 2018..
Nancy DeLoach ..He passed away on April 10th, 2019 ,... ( I’ve read he had Dementia ).....

Such a beautiful reunion! I hope ever so much that's what really happens when we leave this world😇
R.I.P~E.T. Conley, you were among the best of the best. An era slowly coming to a close as more greats have and will be added to the list of deeply missed.
Maybe the most beautiful music video ever made... and almost no one has ever seen it. That makes it even *more* tragic.
ETC,

There is still no no one better
For several decades I held back tears as I listened to this song and thought of my grandfather who lived to be 100. Now, I realize the subject of this song has changed to me!
The man at the 1:09-1:10 mark looks just like my grandfather. Since the late 1980s, this has been and still is my favorite video.
Words of wisdom, in a beautiful song.

"Crowd Around The Corner"
Those stormy years leave deep and endless trails across his face
He'll wander back when morning rolls around
For it's an old man's right to spend his life just searching for a place
Where he can sit and watch the sun go down
Time's run it's course and freed the horse that pulled him through his prime
And placed a different light above his brow
Now towering rows of buildings grow in fields he left behind
And life seems twice as heavy as a plow
With his golden chain the old man clings to the watch inside his vest
That tells him when it's time to move along
Just rambling through the avenues, he'll sometimes stop to rest
But it's hard to find a place where he belongs
So crowd around the corner, boys, and take your good old time
And pass along a piece of yesterday
A tender breeze of memories is blowing through your mind
Softer than those stands of silver-gray
And sweeter than the things we've seen today
Love it , music to sooth the hart .
I’m crying I’ve always loved Earl Thomas Conley but I never really watch this video so intently and notice the old man sneaking off to smoke a joint this reminds me of my dad who passed away God bless those who have God
I'm pretty sure that's not a joint,likely a rolled cigarette
