Play is the elemental force, rooted in our adaptive and evolved human natures, that drives what we regard as creativity and innovation in the modern world. But play's capacity for "as-if" and world-making is now key to the power strategies of many - from Meta to Putin, from the Cosplay coup to AI's next developmental step. We need to "improve the quality of our playful imaginations" as we face our multiple crises, suggests Pat - the better to escape the niches and tight corners of this moment.
