I am completely new to the veggie space - is there a can and can’t list of vegetables that I can grow indoors year round? I also will be adding flowers specifically for cutting and bouquets next year to my flower beds. Thank you to the Garden Answer Family for the inspo.
Burpee has a self watering tray also that works pretty well. Laura, you need to design some of your own products because it would be great if all seed trays had taller domes and are made of more lasting materials. 😊
Can l just say... l love everything you do!!You are an amazing woman!!🥰l am a 62 year old woman who has garden for more than 35 years!! I have learned more from you than any trial and error l have lived...wishing you and your wonderful family all the blessings of the new year!!!!❤❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦🎅🏻
You should keep a thermometer also at the level where you have your lowest plants, too. It’s always colder at the floor unless you have heat that blows directly down in certain areas.
Thanks for your uplifting videos, Laura and Aaron. I’m sad because my daughter will be unable to get home for Christmas, due to the forecasted blizzard, and your upbeat voice and smiling face is just the medicine that I needed, today. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄
Thanks for talking about pelleted seed! I knew what they were but didn't know those other facts about them. That's one of the reasons I watch you! Always learning from you! ❤️❤️
Watching you seed start every season is always so inspiring and informative. I love starting out my work days with some Garden Answer! Thank you all so much for what you do and doing it so well. ❤Side note: that poor Fiddle Leaf Fig in the back has seen better days 🤣
I love these specific seeding videos for the clarity of the process and miss this style in the summer months when you are pruning perennials and shrubs.
Getting ready for an Arctic air blast here tomorrow! 🥶🥶 It was nice to see something being planted that will be fresh and green soon. Merry Christmas everyone! 🥰🎁🌲⛄
When I am awakened in the early morning at 3:36 am, it is a great feeling to know I can be one of the early viewers of this podcast. I need to try this!
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your beautiful family, including your parents, sister, etc. THANK YOU for sharing all of your garden wisdom with us. Please take some time to enjoy the holidays with your family! Here’s to a wonderful 2023 in the garden for all of us!
I found your channel yesterday and I am hooked. I came for the antiquing and I'm staying for the gardening - and the antiquing. 😊Your videos are amazing. I hope you and your wonderful family have an amazing Christmas! Now I'm off to binge watch years of your videos. 😉

Indoor winter growing is always a fun challenge. I'm curious if you have ever tried hydroponic growing? After watching a few RUclips videos on the topic, we decided to give it a shot this year. We started with a really small setup in our basement and were surprised by how well all the plants did- we have lettuce, kale, and even a jalapeño plant which is producing peppers! While I do prefer outdoor growing during the warm months this will definitely become an easy way to extend the growing season.
She did a project on hydroponics a few years ago when a company sent her out their setup. I’m sure if you search Garden Answer Hydroponics you can find it.
Hi Laura my area that is between 60-70 degrees in winter, is my dining room! After the Holidays when the decorations and major socializing are over, it will be my seed starting room! I use a seed mat for the plants that like it warmer and higher Kelvin shop lights on an antique wash stand! I do a lot of my computer work in there as well so I do enjoy watching the the seedlings poke through the soil and the extra light keeps any seasonal affective disorder at bay! I have to say it also helps with the after Christmas lull! So my New Year’s resolution is grow more plants! 💚💚💚💚💚😉😁
Thank you giving us your time. I know you are very busy for the holidays. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎀🎅🤶 I look forward to following you in 2023.
Pelletized seeds are new to me, and, like you Laura, it would be a game changer when I plant my early garden with lettuce and radishes. Enjoy these days with your kiddos, time flies, and then, they are grown and gone.
As much as I love watching your videos I am so happy you are going to take a little time off to spend with the children your family have a merry merry Christmas and happy New Year
Isn't it great to be able to plant and grow in the wintertime? Im usually researching new plants - planning how I want to approach my planting - filling myself up with ideas and sometimes not totally following through on all of them - deciding how and where I can branch out ( no pun intended) I do have indoor plants which I am adding more and more - it must be great to be outside, even though it's an inside/outside area 👍👏🎉so fun 😊
I have the Gardners Supply trays as well. I’d love to see how you manage cleaning the nooks and crannies in between seed starting sets. I’ve thought about using a bottle brush. Is it necessary to sanitize them? Or should I just use water and get most of the visible grime out?
what a great place to be on a cold day... i like the kitty giving the eye to the chicken wire on the grass, lol.. couldn't tell if it was Russell or Cheddar but it looked more like Cheddar, lol... my philosophy for the rest of this year and 2023 is to just "go with the flow"... hard for type A personalities but why not? less stress (hopefully)... happy winter solstice!! 🥰❤ thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
I'm planning to start some lettuce in a windowsill (with a grow light) next week. I'm so excited to be planting seeds. In SE Wisconsin we are about to get some blizzard snow and gusty cold.
You got me again Laura! I love your channel and I keep ordering seeds because of you. I am in zone 10! And I have a tiny garden. I don't need seeds! 😂 One question...I keep thinking about the snail Vine seeds from Baker Creek you planted last year. Did they ever come up? I bought the same packet (of 7 seeds 🤷🏻♀️) and planted them in a berry tray. Slow grower! It took a couple months for the seedlings to appear and I transplanted them in a whiskey barrel with a tall trellis and boy do they love to climb. Haven't seen flowers yet but the vines are still holding on. They should be perennial here. Looking forward to a pretty show next spring.
Good Morning,. My house is still under construction. I have plans to grow microgreens on the wall in the kitchen so as not to go to the garden for greenery, vertical gardening. you have a wonderful greenhouse, I hope you cope with the problem of freezing water
Good morning from Western Washington! I planted lettuce last year and enjoyed it so much! Your voice sounds like what I call, "Teacher Voice". I get it all the time. Sometimes my voice just goes...gone. Tea seems to help. I pray you guys stay healthy through the holidays and that you have a great big fun Christmas!
Hey Laura, The heater is satisfying the thermostat I moved mine to the other side near the water source and turned up temp. It stays consistent throughout greenhouse however, the heater does run longer maintaining an even heat and making up for heat loss between the two. I also installed a larger capacity heater this might be overkill but it helps.
It was 22 degrees this morning here in Virginia (7b) when I woke up. The small pond in the golf course behind our house is partially frozen and there is heavy frost on the grass. It’s Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄🎄
I love the shorter videos as I can watch before my day gets busy. Please take time for yourself and family this Christmas. Your fans will be here. Merry Christmas to your family...
I planted a 4' x 8' bed of lettuce of different kinds and built a cold frame over it using old windows. Stays just the right temp and have had 2 cuttings so far. Temps here are going into single digits Thursday so we'll see if it stays warm enough. We get enough to share with our neighbor.
Love the timing on this video! I was just thinking about how much I miss having my fresh lettuce from the garden and wondered if I could grow it inside my house! Thanks for answering that! 😊
I just started lettuce in the house on Sunday, same iceberg as you started and forget the green leaf name, also started some leaf lettuce :) We eat a lot of lettuce, so I'm going to try to keep growing it all winter so in two weeks I'll start another head or two.
You deserve the time you need for your family. Thank you for including us in your days. Have a blessed christmas season. Jesus is the reason for the season. Enjoy everyone. ✝️🙏🌲
💚 💜 Goodmorning! Last summer I had a difficult time choosing out my lettuce! I was not sure what ones grew a head and ones that I could pull leaves and it would grow back? I'm so bummed I have to just cross my fingers that there's gonna be a ticket available in February or middle of January!!
Do you think the self watering seedling trays from Gardener's Supply is a better functioning system than what you buy from Burpee at Walmart? I am wondering if the shorter tray made it work better. I didn't have great success with the cheaper one, but maybe the tray system was too long for the wicking mat to work. Just curious if you have an opinion. Obviously the Gardener Supply tray is more expensive (especially considering shipping cost), but the older I get, the more I realize you get what you pay for. Thanks so much!❤️
1:50 Have you looked at the Govee thermometer and app? It will also give you the humidity levels. You can monitor it from your phone and see what is happening in real time. Not very expensive and so useful!

Hello Laura! A great idea to grow a salad in the cold season. In winter, the salad is even tastier. Happiness to you and your family👍🌻💙
Great idea Laura 💡 I have a question 🤔 do the pellet seeds need to marked/scored before planting?

A couple of green stalks for your lettuce would be super cute in your greenhouse.
Yes grow lettuce especially with the prices and shortages of lettuce. Great. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
As always, a clear, informative, helpful video. Congratulations on being ready for Christmas!
